^ What I'm suggesting is perhaps to rework the existing rules into sections like Player Roles, Game Phases, Voting, Rules, and the like.
The loose framework for the inaugural post I'm thinking... 1. Introduction 2. Player Roles* a. Selection b. Mafia c. Inspector d. Townsperson e. Player Deaths 3. Game Phases a. Day b. Night 4. Voting a. initial b. closing c. runoff d. hours/weekends 5. Victory conditions 6. Rules a-?. 36hr, weekend, no PM, Bacon rule, and others 6. Players/Day One
* Perhaps with a section in there outlining the Referee's role and responsibilities?
I'm just thinking an expanded/reorganized explanation of the rules themselves might preemptively answer some of these questions, negating the need for an FAQ.
Right now the rules post looks something like: 1. Introduction 2. Here's fifteen other things 3. Players/Day One
I think some reorganization and more clarification about process on the front end might spare us the need for an FAQ on the back end.
Any thoughts or suggestions here?
Also: if Holls wants an FAQ, she better play again.
^^^^ looks great K dogg!!
Throw in a rule that says read your PM relatively sober to understand your role. Our lady Holls really did ask what the name of the dog was on that Scooby Doo show.
1) Once someone is "executed", does that mean they don't vote anymore in subsequent nights/rounds?
Yes. They are dead and can no longer post their opinions or give away their actual role. However, they are allowed to post in the thread. See Scrog and EAP in this game.
No more voting once you are dead. If you are mafia, you can still discuss strategy and be apart of the PM's, etc. Just no posting in the tread.
If a player is being voted off, they have until the ref ends the round to post. When Night begins, they are dead.
If you are the player that gets whacked that night, then you are dead and can no longer post anything specific to the game. Most whacked players make a "ooh, darn. Good luck townpeople" type post after learning they've been whacked. Basically, once you are dead. You are DEAD!
2) Does everyone know who the inspector is? Or is this only Ref knowledge?
No, only the ref and that player.
One important thing about the inspector role. Don't ever mention who you think the inspector is. You want them to live as long as possible. Do put effort into trying to figure it out for yourself. It might guide you towards the right votes later in the game.
If you are the inspector: -You need to lay low. Don't mention the name you have out of the blue. The mafia is on the look out for you. -Try to hang back and connect your first given name with other players. -Pay careful attention to the names your known mafia member is bringing up. It should help you narrow down your guesses.

What I'm worried about, maybe what I should say is the line I don't want to cross, is working game strategy into the rules. There's instruction book and there's strategy guide, and I'm only talking about editing the instruction book myself. Just throwing that out there.

I'm worried about this as well. I feel I crossed the line on explaining how I knew some things in this game.
Some of it was strategy but some was just by the numbers. I didn't want to just come out and say it. Some things you just need to learn by playing.
Explaining your personal means of play is detrimental to the game in the long term.

So if I get the rules right, the purpose of this game is:
- If you're maffia, you have to let the townspeople think you're townpeople - If you're townspeople, you have to guess who the maffia is + don't let others think you're maffia
So if I get the rules right, the purpose of this game is:
- If you're maffia, you have to let the townspeople think you're townpeople
Correct. You can do it in numerous ways. It's all up to your personality and what happens within the game.... Some townspeople make moves that make them look suspicious. Some people like to lay low and try to coast through the game without making noise. Others try to be more talkative. One common strategy is to mirror the suspicions of a townsperson and lead the good guys down the wrong path.
- If you're townspeople, you have to guess who the maffia is + don't let others think you're maffia
Correct. The way I try to play is to be open and create dialogue with others. You have to be suspicious of everyone but if you get people talking it at least gives you more information. Just remember that a few of those people are lying wankers.
This game is full of paranoia. People often get voted off for the most idotic reasons (In hindsight, at least). In this last game, Noage was considered "shady" because he said he was going to try and be more vocal. Noage is usually a quieter player. Him saying that made some people distrustful of him.
It's not an easy game to understand but that's what makes it fun. I like the challenge of it. My girlfriend has played me for a fool in this game and I'm still waiting for my chance to get back at her.
You just got to jump in and play. Don't worry about making a mistake. You are gonna make them. It's part of the game. We all fail at some point.

1. I don't understand the game well enough to feel comfortable playing. 2. If I break a rule, Mr. Forward will be all over my ass. 3. YOU PEOPLE ARE MEAN when you play this. 4. I am about to go on vacation. 5. I might have an unfair advantage as a moderator. Don't know what it would be, but I'm sure I would be accused at some point. 6.See number 3.

I'm not playing, and I'm nicer to new players. Last game was my first one not playing in a while, and I kind of enjoyed it. I'm content to chase that feeling.
I am curious what you people think about the "Referee role/responsibilities" section and what would need to go into it. That's one of the areas where I feel the present explanation is insufficient. That's why I'd proposed the rule about issuing deaths/guesses together and the like recently.
I think we might need more stuff like that. And perhaps some outlining of "Referee's discretion?"

Yeah, I think it could use some clarifying. Like the issue from your last game refereeing. Should we make a more concrete statement about what should be taken up in PM's and what should be mentioned within the game?
I plan on following Bacon's lead on the issuing deaths/guesses.
I actual have a question about runoffs. Are they suppose to last 36 hours too?

The roles are ready. Check your PMs tomorrow. I'll start the game at around 7pm or so.
Just a reminder to our newer players. You can ask game related questions in the thread or PM me. Don't feel overwhelmed by something that you don't understand. HAVE FUN!!!

I'm not going to be playing again until there are a couple games in a row when someone doesn't get offended and threaten to take their ball and go home

I'm so looking forward to offend some people during this game! ;D
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
