Yea that was my thinking as well. Surely Headliners, Expo, Z Bar, and the other venues will capitalize on this? Headliners already has a great summer lineup with Yeasayer, Dirty Projectors, and Godspeed You Black Emperor. I really hope they add some Forecastle bands.
I had inflated expectations, as well. And you're right the adds and late-nights have been weak. Still holding out hope that Headliners & other clubs will be smart enough to book some cool bands that weekend with everyone in town. What happened to all the Friends of MMJ we were so sure would show up this year??
I am more than happy with spending late night Friday on the boat with Tanlines then following that up with a late night PHJB and members of MMJ on the boat. It looks as if a lot of the Jacket friends opted to be at Newport with them, and that is ok because I will be there as well. ;-)
Anyone have any suggestions? I heard the bars stay open til 4 a.m.
Most bars are open til 4a.m. Fourth Street is basically a frat party (Sullys especially), but I actually like the Makers Mark bar. Its pretty pricey though. Bardstown is always hoppin, I prefer Flannigans or The Back Door. Germantown has a lot of chilled out bars, I like Nachbar. Then there are tons of random dives around town. My fav is Barrett Bar or the Monkeywrench simply because I can blackout and walk home

I tried listening to some Tanlines and couldn't get into it really.
The late night acts in 2010 were way better and more well known. I'm really annoyed by the recent announcements but I got my ticket for $100 for a 3 day music festival to see some of my favorite bands so I guess I shouldn't complain. Still though the lack of late night acts especially when the music will be ending so early is RIDICULOUS!!!
Now that I'm done complaining, we're staying at the Galt House. Are those bars some of you mentioned within walking distance? Is it safe to walk around that area?

Most of the ones he mentioned aren't. And honestly I wouldn't go walking after dark. There has been a lot of shootings in the past few weeks. The Galt House isn't in a bad area, but I wouldn't even chance it. Take a cab when possible. And avoid anything past 9th Street/Muhammad Ali Blvd, that is where things start to get really sketchy, this is the West end of town.
When does the music end daily??

Not sure why but downtown seems dead on the weekends. Ive been hard pressed to find a bar worthwhile in the area. Stevie Rays is ok simply because my biochem professor plays in a band there on occasion. The Galt House area isn't bad but I think some one mentioned not to go past 10th Street or so, it turns into sketch city (although I had a blast at the Roxbury, once). Most of the bars in that area are on Main Street but typically have a cover and steep drink prices. 4th Street is fairly close but like I said before, Bardstown Road area is probably your best bet. If any one would like a bar hop of Bardstown or Germantown on Saturday I am totally down to lead a guided tour (megaphone and everything). Friday I'll be watching Paper Diamond on da boat

This was on their Facebook page:
Festival hours will roughly be as follows: Friday: 5 p.m.-midnight Saturday: 2 p.m.-midnight Sunday: 2 p.m.-10p.m.
Needless to day, we're going to have to find SOMETHING to do after the last band of the night plays!!
Officially 1 month away!! I'm assuming the schedule will be out soon...hopefully there won't be too many conflicts. They've been making some cool additions on the website under "Activities" including a Bourbon Lounge. Looks like they'll have a lot more stuff to do and see than past years.
4th St is Bro-tastic brah. I avoid at all costs. If you want something close to downtown, check out 3rd Street Dive or the Magnolia Bar & Grill(Everyone calls it The Mag)
NuLu on East Market is a gentrifying section of the town where you'll most likely find bonnaroo type vibes. Excellent food at Harvest, Mayan Cafe, Decca, Blind Pig, and a speak easy called Meat.
The Highlands is where I'd direct your bar hopping. You have Wicks Pizza, Cahoots(an awesome rock dive with amazing bar food), Molly Malones, Flannigans, O Sheas, The Holy Grale(Beer snob heaven), The Back Door, Highland Tap Room, or Cumberland Brews. There's also some hookah bars in the area that just opened up if that's what you're into.
Also, please do not drink and drive, we have cabs. Even better we have a service called City Scoot, for the price of a cab, someone will drive you home in your vehicle, they have a little scooter they stick in the trunk for getting around after dropping you off.

^^^ Jigga what? How am I just now learning of this? Been in the Ville for almost a year now and haven't heard anything about it. Will for sure be finding that #. Not sure if the scooter will fit in the back of a Prelude tho :S
