Ok let's get this started early this year
Early Bird tickets go on sale Sat at 3:00 pm EST. IF you can manage to buy some in the minutes/seconds before they sell out this will save you around $100

Presales sold out in minutes Servers were terrible. took me 10 minutes to get to checkout, at which point they were sold out. Tickets jumped now from $150 to $230 ($270 after fees)

Miami is way behind the rest of the country in every genre of music, besides Electronic dance music, Latino music, and mainstream hip-hop garbage. Unless we get some kind of Latino music festival, we will probably never have a serious non-electronic music festival.
Ultra puts more into the production of their festival then any other American music festival I've seen (although from what I've seen and heard about EDC vegas, they may rival or surpass Ultra)
But the light shows are really really really top notch next level poop that never ever fails to impress me. And the line-ups are increasingly better each year.
the only music festival, besides Calle Ocho, that Miami can maintain...too bad I'm not a fan of the untz...
Yeah but in the past 2 years they've brought in an impressive slew of live bands. Last year we saw Cut/Copy, Underworld, Duran Duran, Crystal Castles, Pendulum Live, !!!, Trentmoller, Disco Biscuits, STS9, Conspirator, and CSS. And the best part is, since 90+% of the attendees ARE there to see the Untz Untz, these shows are usually empty. I couldn't believe when I got out of Pendulum 50 minutes into Trentmollers set I was literally able to walk to the front rail. And I pretty much had a private Conspirator show sunday morning last year, with about 30 other people

No pendulum was a huge show- they were on the mainstage (see video above, 3rd down) Sorry, re-reading that post it does sound kind of unclear. Trentmoller was conflicting with pendulum. When pendulum ended I went to catch the end of trentmoller. I walked up 50 minutes into trentmoller's set and was able to walk right up to the front rail, because everyone else was at Tiesto or Avicii
The one thing that pissed me off about Ultra Lights is that it was great for DJs but sucked for bands. i really wanted to SEE pendulum play live, but instead all I got to see was pretty flashing lights, and their silhouettes.

Upon rereading, it was clear. I just can't read sometimes.
Why don't they just turn off the crazy lights for bands and use regular stage lights? They may be worried about it messing up the flow or annoying intoxicated people who love blinky, shiny things.

Tiesto and Deadmau5 are pretty much a given. I think Justice definitely could headline, but I think there's a good chance we'll see someone else above them as the 3rd headliner. Ultra is the kind of festival that sees repeats year to year, I actually wouldn't mind at all if we got chemical brothers again (are they still touring?) And I'm not holding my breath for Daft Punk, but I think that's also within the realm of possibility.

So on my plane trip back from Lollapalooza I spoke to this random guy who was big into electronic music festivals, and claimed to be 'in the know' about things. (he knows people who know people, yadda yadda)
We discussed Ultra, and he said the promoters were looking into setting up stages on docks and barges on the bay in miami (the festival already takes place on the bayfront) I really thought nothing of it (it reminded me of the phish and radiohead on the train story)

For the first time ever, this falls on my spring break! Thanks for the heads up about Justice (probably) being there. I'm gonna wait until the lineup drops/my student loans come in (2 weeks tops, if UT can get their shit together) and then buy a ticket, even if I can't find anyone to go with me.

Deadmau5 will almost certainly be there. I could see Swedish House Mafia headlining. Last year they had their own event, and were ballsy enough to go head to head with Ultra. It was a pretty huge event and it completely sold out.
