There's excitement for this fest, just not on this board. Eff was the best fest last year imo, and I expect this year to be the same. Sherwood forest + cheese = perfection for me. Everything else on the lineup is just icing.
I wish more people were at least talking about this festival, even if they don't like the lineup or think the ticket price isn't justified by the first set of acts. This festival was AWESOME last year and Im not really into EDM or Bluegrass (don't get me started on drumless bluegrass bands). The ticket price is small potatoes compared to what it costs to go to a festival halfway across the country and for me it was worth every penny. It was also my first non-Bonnaroo camping festival and to be honest, I was a little worried about possible sketch-factor. In actuality, it had such good vibes all around, after about 30 min I wanted to kick myself for being so judgemental and WRONG. I urge anyone who is curious about this festival to give it a shot because it is a really unique experience.
3 nights of cheese + 2 nights of tribe + 1 bassnectar (I'm a sucker I know but his shows are fun)+EOTO is already a full weekend of amazing poop and definitely worth the 240 whatever the tickets cost now.
BTW i am kicking myself for missing out on a loyalty ticket
There's a long history of Rothbury hate on this board, which is why there isn't much positive talk about it. I rarely ever even mention for fear of getting the smite-masters back on my back. BUT there is an another "sister forum" for it. Infobury.com And I agree with what you just said. I almost didn't go last year convinced it was going to be a custie rage fest. But it turned out to be the some of the best vibes i've ever experienced.
The Roth hate was a result of people on both sides of the argument. There was a lot of "this fest is better and you are stupid for thinking otherwise" going around in 08 and 09. I did Roth in 09 and it was wonderful. I personally prefer more because of the diversity but I can't talk bad about Roth. I would have loved to go again but the EFF thing isn't my thing. I'm glad to hear it is still a fun fest.
I love JJ Ranch.. didn't make it last year, but 08 and 09 Rothbury were two of my 3 fave fests of alltime (along with 06 roo). I understand where people are coming from, though, with the lineup hate. Is it still worth going, for the bands who are there, plus the amazing location? For many of us yes.
On the other hand, I remember seeing Bassnectar for the first time at Roth 08, and I had no idea who he even was. He was probably billed 40th on that lineup. And sure, he's blown up a lot since then, but the point is you used to get the location, the jam bands who are billed at the top now (STS9, SCI), plus a ton of other headline-esque bands (Dead, Dylan, Black Crowes, Umphrey's, Black Keys, Primus, Trey... et al). So it is a bit confusing why they charge more now than they did then, for what seems like should be a less-expensive artist bill.

i loved rothbury... actually back in the day i was convinced it would take down the roo... weather and what not, but tenneesssee never let the cops in. michigan did!
Richie Hawtin playing in woods?!? WTF?!?! 2 nights of Tribe? 3 nights of Cheese? I would have bought the ticket in a heartbeat if it wasnt for 12 hour drive.

12 hours is nothing for good tunes. Bonnaroo is a 17hr drive one way, All Good is 22, and EFF will be around 24+. I promise you would never stand in the forest and regret your decision

Absolutely, I am skipping Bonnaroo and going EFF and EDC this year.
SO STS9 is gonna be taking over the forest for 2 nights with their "Great Cycle Spectacles"!! I don't know why, but I can't get enough of these guys! Check out their vid i'm posting below!

Was watching some vids for Waka and clicked on a few EFF vids. Man ol man I had flashbacks to Rothbury 09 instantly. As someone who enjoys "visuals" nothing tops the forest in my book. I will never complain about the price or dog the lineup of any festival. They don't plan these things to please one person and one person only. It will never be Rothbury again, the music will always change but the forest doesn't change, it only gets better apparently according to some of these posts and the videos i watched. See you all in the forest, i will be the guy stuck in a trance in a hammock in the forest getting up occasionally to dance like noone is watching
I was looking at this festival and it looks really awesome! I love electronic music especially a lot of the bands on here. If I were a little bit closer to it I'd go for sure but I live 11 hours away ... but what do you think about this one guys?I mean 3 String Cheese shows and 2 STS9 shows are about worth the ticket price alone. Not to mention Bassnectar,Thievery Corp, Major Lazer, Wolfgang Gartner, and lots of more people I'd love to see. Oh yeah there is a contest going on right now for a video. You submit some video and they pick a king and queen of Electric Forest. Winners get VIP tix, thought that was pretty nice. So anyways tell me what you guys think of this contest or fest.
oh yeah I also heard that Shewood forest is amazing and have looked up youtube vids on that. Anyone wanna share their Sherwood forest experiences or talk bout that?
Just a heads up that volunteer apps for EF are now up at www.workexchangeteam.com/electricforest. Another way to ease the pain of the ticket cost, for those of us with limited income.
It's so tempting, but I have to choose between this and Roo. Theyre about the same distance from me, but different venue/number of friends/variety of music are things I'm comparing. 12ish hour drive regardless which one I go to.
If any of you dabble in the dj thing (which I know lots of people that do) I ran across this and thought it would be cool. I don't do the dj thing but for those of you that do this is called the Untz Challenge III where you submit an unreleased track and you can win to play at like 4 different music fests including Electric Forest. So check it out if you're interested goo.gl/QiwRq
This years lineup is definitely an improvement on last years terrible lineup, but it's still not enough to get me all the way out to Michigan. I hope one day the lineup IS that good though because right now it seems like I'd love every single aspect of this fest except the actual bands playing.
Here is SCI headliner of Electric Forest performing Joyful Sound, NOT to be confused with the poopy Dolly Parton/Queen Latifah movie Joyful Noise!! These guys are pretty sick, I've never seen them just heard good things, and I did walk by their set at Bonnaroo 07 when they performed "Stayin Alive" on my way to John Paul Jones superjam! It sounded so good and so did STS9, I hated to miss either of those shows.
Oh yeah here's the video it'll help with the "watching" of it
There's enough here to constitute me wanting to go and have a great time. I like String Cheese, Thievery Corp, and two STS9 shows is right up my ally. Lots more diversity than last year too. It's got grass (McCoury and Stringdusters), its got funk (Dumptaphunk), lots of Bonnaroo crossovers for this year (Major Lazer, Big Gigantic, MiMosa, Das Racist, Dumpstaphunk Big Freedia, Battles, Soul Rebels. Fruit Bats). And given the awesome setting of sherwood forest, Electric Forest is a big win for me this year.
BUT THEN, I look at those dang ticket prices and remember that its like way too far away for me to ever consider.
Here's something interesting I've found, a t-shirt design contest. Winner recieves 2 full event passes and a 500$ prize! Very nice for all you artists out there. Oh yeah and of course your t-shirt gets made and sold at the fest. www.electricforestfestival.com/contests.php
Papadosio is very good. Unsure if they have ever played Bonnaroo, I think I may saw them on the lineup a few years back. Anyways they are going to be at Electric Forest and they blew my mind at All Good last year! Check em out
