I know man, I couldn't believe they actually had an announcement for that. It looks like shit, but 'it's just 1/3 of the final lineup, stay tuned for more!'
I have no idea why they decided to release the lineup this way, it's not building excitement it's just pissing people off to the point that they aren't going to attend this year.
And if you decide to release it in thirds (whose quacking idea was this?) the first one better be damn good, and it's not.
Just saw that today. Def a bummer that pretty lights is a headliner. Kind of expected though...seems like the electronic scene has infiltrated waka more and more the last couple years. Doubt I'll be going back this year but I'm def curious to see what else they have in store.
What up Scott, I'm probably gonna pass on Waka this year too but will be going to Roo. Haven't talked to Spence about it yet but I bet he's down.
Notta man. The Harvest fest in the fall is probably my festival destination this year. Just hard to beat the weather and the laid back crowd. I wouldn't mind making it back to Roo sometime, but I doubt this year will be the year....I guess I'll have to wait and see what they got lined up this year before I make a decision.

I gotta hit harvest fest this year, almost went last year but it snuck up on me.

Well worth it man. Last year was my first year and loved it.

I have done Harvest the past two years it is quite the little festival.
Wait until they finish releasing the lineup. Then if you don't like it you can quack it.
Aw man, but I wanna fuck it noooooooowwww!!
It's not just the lineup that's pissing me off, it's also the increase in ticket prices and camping passes across the board. Because if you've been to Wakarusa you know that $119 for a friggin early bird special is a stretch. There's really nothing there at all but 4 stages, 1 of which is up to Roo standards.
Now the early birds are $139 so I can't imagine what those 3rd tier tickets are gonna go for. Probably approach $200, which is BEYOND ridiculous for what you get at this festival.
So does Pretty Lights demand a headliner spot or was it more "Hey we want you to headline" from Waka?
He is getting there, at this point I bet he is the first EDM artist to headline a major festival. He certainly sold out a 15k person show here in Nashville last year.

Layaway tickets are $179, so that will be last tier. This is the only decent fest that is driving distance for me, plus I've had some very special experiences there. Barring a lineup catastrophe in the next announcements, I'll be there.

Like I said, approaching $200, which is ridiculous for what you actually get at Wakarusa. They have no business charging that much for this festival, and I've been three times, fwiw.
Don't forget about the $30-$40 in fees, plus you have to buy a camping pass separately. Main stage camping is $99 now and the other camp areas increased by 10 bucks since last year.
$250+ just to get in is laughable for this fest. Seriously, I'm lol'ing right now.
Edit: just so I don't sound like a complete cheapskate, I'm just comparing recent prices here and how outrageous they are. Main stage camping was $45 in 2010 and now it's a hundred bucks. What the hell, it's still just a wide open field. They haven't done anything to improve the camping in any way.
West woods was like 20 bucks in 2010 and now it's $55. Waka organizers are getting greedy and they're not improving the festival experience in any way. Back to Roo for me this year!

Glad to see that you will be there - we jumped in and bought tickets. Did the layaway plan and - personally - think that $180 is a great price for 100 bands anywhere.
I'm thrilled with the first announcement - lots of bands I've seen and want to see again - a couple that I haven't seen but want to see and a bunch I don't know but as I am investigating am beginning to like.
BUT - unlike alot of Inforoosters - I'm a raver at heart - always have been and will almost always pick electronica over a jam band. So that may be why I am really pleased with the line up.
BUT - I am even happy with Weir, Robinson and Greene - Adore Chris Robinson in any way, shape or form and I checked out Jackie Greene and have fallen in love with him also. It's a win-win for me.
Kinda with linkovich on this one. Must be something about living in Fayettenam.
I've never been to Waka and I don't intend to this year (prefer Harvest fest). I have friends who've worked with the people who put on this shindig and they say it's a pretty reckless operation (didn't cap ticket sales even though they were clearly over capacity). They had to fire the security manager after a day or two last year because volunteers were working for hours with no water breaks. A friend's uncle owns property adjacent to the site and he had festival goers camping on his land without permission. People who paid for camping passes, no less! Don't care how kick-a the line-up is, the peeps I want to see will most likely route through Bonnaroo which is much more organized.
But if you've gone and actually had fun, good for you. Everyone I know who's actually enjoyed it said, not kidding, that the key is to not even be there half the time. Just go for the late nights. Doesn't seem like much fun to me.

I remember security tightening up on the line checks last year after someone set off a cherry bomb on a porta potty with a young kid inside. the kid was covered in shit

Yes this is in fact the key. The reason is because the only good shows are on the main stage, but it faces south west so it's literally in direct sunlight all day long.
Last year it was about 105 during the day, so the only sensible thing to do was stay in the shade while the sun was up and then finally emerge at dusk.
That's bullshit though, for the price there should be some other stuff to do besides seeing local bands on small stages, then maybe one or two good bands after sundown.
I'm a seasoned festival vet, been to dozens so I know how to have a good time at them. But honestly the only time I actually enjoyed myself at Waka last year was at Thievery Corp and MMJ. Otherwise you're just sitting at your campsite because there aren't any good bands during the day and there's nothing else to do.
Well like I said harvest is one of the best run most relaxing festivals ever. A lot of folk there talk up Waka, but I am nit sure I could ever make it. The lineup is too limited, and it is a whole lot farther away than Bonnaro.

I refuse to believe that. Isn't Wakarusa a jam-centric fest? And don't we all know by now that NOTHING shady ever happens in the jam community, brahs?
NOTHING we tell lawyers about anyway, unless there is a court order.

Yeah man, I missed it last year. It was one of those things when you say "Wow harvest looks good this year, when is it?"
"Tomorrow"
So I was fucked. Gonna make it this year though just to experience the Mountain in a non-Waka setting. I can see how it would be more relaxing.

Yeah, that's balls. I was just thinking that I might be making an appearance this year. I can already feel my friends gearing up to talk/guilt me into it. I can camp for free, so it might happen.

I've done all the Wakas on mulberry and last year was my first Harvest. I prefer Harvest. First year of waka was great...since then the electronic scene has gotten a lot bigger at waka. I do appreciate electronic music (got down to some shpongle last year)....but it seems as it has become a larger part of wakarusa the sketchiness has increased as well. Don't get me wrong I like to party, but it seemed like last year it was on the verge of getting out of hand. The Wakarusa folks have already been ran out of Kansas so I'm curious to see how this plays out in Arkansas over the next few years.
Highly doubt I'd participate in Waka once again this year even though my boy Wick-It will be there to throwdown til sunrise. Unless I can score a ticket for under $100 somehow.
Never been to Waka before but I'm considering making the trip this year. I love EDM so the lineup isn't bad. It really just depends on the 'roo lineup as well as All Good and Mountain Jam

hmmm sounds like you actually don't know how to have fun then....
