Well I am stoked! Just listed 17 bands on another forum that get me all giddy. And that's not included more that I am interested in checking out, and before doing any research on unknown bands. Y'all can be as unimpressed as you like. But for my tastes, this lineup is the shiz!
Clarity - I'm with you - I am really happy with this line up. Yes I would have like to see Ben Harper for Franti - BUT we get Primus and Ghostland and G. Love and Chris Robinson will be there - even if he has to share the stage with those two other guys
I don't know how far away you are but Franti is playing FloydFest in VA in July

Yeah - that's not gonna happen. I'm surprised we are going to Waka really. We weren't going to do any festy this year and try to be responsible adults and save some money but decided we both need the break from reality and the stress of our jobs.

Realllllyyyyyyyy leaning towards waka now. Want Roo's lineup to come out already so I can make a decision. Part of me feels like its gonna land on Waka this year.
I was really excited to see the complete Wakarusa line up! wakarusa.com/2012/lineup.asp Very excited to see Primus! 2 sets of The Motet - they have been awesome every time I've seen them! Looking forward to seeing Slightly Stoopid for the first time! Waka Waka!

Anyone going to the Wakarusa Winter Classic? Showcases a ton of local bands throughout the Midwest. Winners are chosen by people in attendance at each show, winners then play a set at this year's Wakarusa! Shows started January 13th, but you can still catch a show! I'm heading to the Des Moines one on Feb. 9th at the Vaudville Mews. Super excited, love seeing and supporting local music as well as a great fest like Wakarusa!!!
Here is the awesome preview video for Wakarusa 2012: I personally really love this festival and venue! I was blown away by how many artists and attractions there are, not to mention the Ozarks are absolutely beautiful! Getting pretty excited for June! Waka Waka!
Is it worth a 6 hour drive? I love the lineup and would definitely pay for a ticket. But as far as the setting and the festival and all that goes is it worth it?
1) How does the crow size compare to something like All Good? 2) I hear it's hot and humid... close to 'Roo? 3) Can you actually get in the river? I thought I heard that wasn't allowed. 4) How many stages? 5) Do the late shows go till sunrise or end around 2-4 am? 6) Camping... do you have any room to breathe or are you RIGHT beside your neighbor?

thanks for answers!!!
1) Haven't been to all good....but I would guessimate its around 15-18,000 at waka
2) I wouldn't say its as bad as Roo because of all the shade from trees ad such
3) Yes you can get in the river
4) Main stage, revival tent, backwoods stage, another tent, and some electronic stage (can't remember the name)
5) Pretty much music 24 hours a day
6) Depends on your spot...main stage is pretty packed...west woods we had plenty of room and were camped under trees (plenty of shade)
I think my GF is going to kill me... summercamp > waka > roo. I may be a bachelor at the end of this run if i'm even still alive. Pray for me inforooers. This could get ugly. But i'm not going to let a little domestic issue distract me from the pure joy that will be had those 2 1/2 weeks. :-)
haha tripon, just show her this (Official Waka Vid) If she doesn't agree, you don't need her! haha It's gonna be an awesome time on Mulberry Mountain again!
Just saw that Pretty Lights is headlining the Interstellar Meltdown at Wakarusa! Interstellar Meltdown is hosting an awesome line up of Electronic music! Here's a great video of Pretty Lights at Bonnaroo last year: SO excited! Waka Waka!

Great video. Highly recommend checking it, and Wakarusa out. What a better way to work your way into Bonnaroo and you get to see some of the same artists up close and personal without 75,000 other people cramming around to see them too. I absolutely LOVE WAKARUSA!!! (Official Waka Vid)
I think I am going to make my first trip to the Ozarks this year. I originally planned on going to Hangout, but the lineup was a bust for me.
-We are thinking about doing VIP. Does anyone know how long the VIP tickets last?
Thanks
VIP for Waka is definitely the way to go! When I went in 2009, VIP sold out when we got there on Thurs. I know they usually sell out, but I'd say you have a little time to decide. I think I got mine in April or May? Hope that helps!

Honestly, while the heat may be a factor(I'm from Texas so I'm sure I'm more acclimated), I thought Wakarusa was one festival I would never feel the need to go VIP for. Last year we were camped in the farthest corner possible in main camping, and the walk was still so easy I had no qualms about going in for one show and then coming back to camp to hang out again. So easy, and security was never an issue.
The one thing I'll invest in this year is a solar shower so I can clean up at least one or two nights that I'm there. Otherwise I was very comfortable going general camping.
HippieNaustin... did u read all that the VIP @ Waka gets you?? Seems like a lot of bang for the buck. But I can see your points too. Damn, now i'm really conflicted. BTW nice pic. Mine was taken at Rothbury 09 but its hard to see what it is. I think mine is the Tripolee stage or something like that. I miss Rothbury. It's offshoot doesn't do it for me for some reason. I would almost go back just for the forest lol

i just read the details. the free food would definitely be an upside, and save me some money, but overall it just doesn't make me want to spend that kind of money. then again, the group i go to Waka with is SUPER prepared. we have ez-ups for the common areas, as well as for our tents specifically, so the shade thing isn't an issue. we've also got a generator for fans, charging phones, cooking, etc. portos are always a scary thought, but i'm a festie veteran at this point, so i come prepared with my lysol spray, my own t.p., and hand sanitizer. knowing even the farthest walk is an easy one to the venue also keeps me from going VIP to this fest specifically. Bonnaroo is probably the only fest i'd be down to spend big bucks on to go VIP. it's just not that hard for me to be comfortable at Waka.
also, and this is just my personal experience, i find that i'd much rather be mixed in with the GA crowd at a show than be right up front or off to the side in the VIP viewing areas. why would you want to be right up front for people like PL and Bassnectar when half the fun of their shows are all the graphics and lights that are better viewed from further back? just my personal opinion though.
and i dig your picture too! ;D mine is from Roth '09 as well. i came home and went through some pictures i'd taken with my blackberry and i didn't even remember taking it! and yes, yours are the tripolee domes. i wanted to go to EFF last year just to hang out with all my Rothbury friends i don't get to see very often, but i had some crap go down beforehand and it didn't happen. this year the lineup is FANTASTIC for my tastes, and it's only partially done. i hope to see you back in the forest!!

I was there for the Bassnectar last year, it was INSANE!!! The Interstellar Meltdown is one of the greatest things about Waka... and this year Pretty Lights is headlining it!!! It doesn't much better than jam, funk, bluegrass and folk during the day and then the Meltdown at night! I simply cannot stop watching this video from Pretty Lights' set at Roo last year... great stuff. Cannot wait!

I might have fudged up by buying the early arrival parking pass when there is a good chance i might upgrade to VIP before its all said and done and not even need it or my ticket. Hope i can get rid of them if i do upgrade. i should have planned this out better. D'oh! lol
