I might try. It's just a couple hour drive from Chicago. It really depends on line up, and how busy my work schedule is. I hear mixed things about this fest, but don't know anyone personally who has gone.

Sorry for the double post, but they are going to start announcing bands on Wednesday and will have the full first round of bands by Friday. They are doing it through Facebook and Twitter, you have to be a friend to see.

I've been to Summercamp several times, and for those who haven't gone, its a good mid level festival IMO. Its easy to get around, not overly crowded and for the most part pretty laid back. Not a lot of scenery in the area, but they make the best with what they got. Obviously the lineup will make or break a festival for anyone planning to go. One thing i don't like is having to pay extra for the late night shows, but since they take place in a red barn with limited capacity, i understand the need to do this. Its also easy to find, not too far from major interstates.
Well ncbst3, this year's lineup isn't fully out yet at this pt, but when you take into account what they have announced so far, its going to be a good year at camp. The lineup mirrors Wakarusa's lineup, which is already out, so if u pop over to their site, you will get a good idea of what to expect at Summercamp. i might be wrong, but scamp has Gov't Mule and I didn't see them on Waka's lineup but it might have been there. Not sure about you, but Warren Haynes anything is enough to push me toward that festival. I can easily see a Derek Trucks/Haynes/jackie greene collaboration at summercamp in the making, and I wouldn't want to miss that if it happens. But, best of luck in your decisions... Hangout would be hard to pass up considering the location, but no camping on site and the music doesn't last nearly as long into the night makes it hard for me to commit to that. Plus, i live in Hawaii, my commute is a bit of an issue lol
I just hate attending festivals Ive never been to before by myself. No problem if Ive already been there and have a heads up what to expect.
I did Hangout last year but I agree its definitely a commute that alone would suck (its 17 hours for me). Ive never done Summercamp but its definitely close enough that driving alone wouldnt be an issue. Plus the camping makes it alot cheaper. Any form of Warren Haynes makes be happy. Plus I love me some Umphreys.

well if u like Umphreys, Summercamp is your best bet. Usually there a good number of inforooers there. I think my gf and I are bringing her parents RV this year, but if u do go i suggest going in early as u can and try to camp in the woods... those spots fill up quickly. any other Q's u have just ask.
According to Scamp's fbook... a Big Announcement coming Thursday (Feb 9th) they are only announcing one act that day, with the rest of the lineup being dropped in a few weeks. Im going with Soundtribe on this one. BUT lots of people think Cheese. Tribe isn't new to Summercamp and everyone is blowing up camp's fbook about them. Its gotta be them, right??
Tribe is prob not playing summer camp. I would be really shocked if they did anything this summer outside of EFF, re:gen, and MAYBE one festival but its with two GCE sets. just my two cents. my bets are EFF and re:gen only.
Edit: you got me thinking and if its a big annoucement then if its in the form of tribe it will be two GCE shows. Hmmmmmmm.....
Well we'll find out in less than a week but I'm putting my money on Tribe. Side bets on Allman Bros and Furthur. I've all but rejected the idea of Cheese since they pretty much do their own thing and that thing is EFF. But you know how it is, every year some festival pulls a rabbit out of their hat. Maybe this year its Summercamps turn. it would be nice considering I already got my ticket lol
Tribe does there own thing (re:gen). EFF will not be the only festival SCI does. I think this is the year Cheese will be festival hogs. You are more likely to see Cheese then Tribe at summercamp IMO. Tribe was there last year doing two sets, they are not doing much this whole year, and I don't see them bringing the GCE to Scamp. But I could be wrong. My bets are Cheese though.
As much as I hate the waiting game and the slow leaks of artists by festivals, I have to admit, the marketing strategy is pretty effective. Got me thinking about it months before the event. Festival 1 triponthis 0 lol

I wouldn't expect cheese to be hitting the festie circuit much this year. Right now it's looking more like cheese will be doing eff, red rocks, and possibly hornings heading into some west coast dates.
Well the Hangout fest just scored both Cheese and Tribe. i give up predicting lol
I didn't want to believe the cheese rumors for hangout since I have no desire to go (willful ignorance). ENB is at delfest that weekend as well, so I wouldn't count on cheese.
Late Nights announced... Fri: Les Claypool w/the Dead Kenny G's Sat: Digital Underground Conspiracy Sun: Pretty Lights and lets not forget someone will be playing in the Red Barn on Thurs night as well
7/2 - Lotus, MiMoSa, The New Deal, The Glitch Mob 7/3 - Red Rocks and Blue II w/ Umphrey's Mcgee and Easy Star All Stars 7/4 - Umphrey's Mcgee Boulder, CO
Im with you ucsoccer. Completely out of left field. I'm a fan of Jane's Addiction but never thought they would play at festival like Summercamp. Everybody is in shock. It's going to be interesting how well they are received. So far, it hasn't been too positive. For the record, I'm officially done predicting any bands at any festival. Ever. I'm out lol
yea there is a lot going on and overlap sets. I thought they were somewhat staqgered but hell my memory of most music festivals is a giant blur lol but I do remember speed walking from one main stage to the other and catching a lot of half sets of bands which kinda bummed me out. This year I plan on picking one or the other and sticking with it. But i know I will be hustling back n forth again. its inevitable lol
