Chellaroo the only advice I can give is arrive as early as possible. Gates open at noon on Thurs but Id try to get there even earlier if U can. Camping in the woods would be ur best bet and to get a spot there u need to arrive early. Bring plenty of lighting if u do camp in the woods... btw there are trails through the woods and u can camp anywhere along the trails just not on the trail lol. Bugs never seemed to be an issue by Memorial Day but expect summery weather in the day, spring temps at night. But do check the forecast before u leave so u r prepared, if rain is in the forecast bring a pair of boots. Its laid back there, don't think that the entrance is some kind of gestapo checkpoint, its not really like that at all. When u arrive just kind of pay attention to what other people are doing it should help you out. 90% of security are volunteers i think, the other 10% paid workers. Random cops will make their presence felt near the entrance but its just for show for the most part. Act cool, and you will be golden. Any other Qs just ask
to add to that, you will need to exchange ur print pass for a festival wristband near the entrance and parking lot, they have trailers set up for that so get that done quickly and first, then go get ur stuff and head for the woods

I love the woods at Scamp! It's nice and shaded during the day and it gets really, really weird at night . My only suggestion is that you bring ear plugs if you wanna sleep, depending on where exactly you are in there. Especially if your on a path. The woods fill up FAST. They are the most desired location, that's why people show up so early.
One of the most important parts of Scamp is to make sure you're careful driving in. Last year the cops were using tactics that I consider entrapment. One squad car would be sitting on the should of the highway with others in front of it. When people did not merge in to the left lane, they were pulled over and searched. Many arrests were made, but there is a local lawyer who is getting most of them dropped. Obey all laws and PLEASE be careful
Thanks again guy! I think we're going to leave MA on EARLY Wednesday in hopes of getting there at like 6am on Thursday. We have a large van with a tv and pull out bed, so we'll be able to stay cozy in the line if there is one by then. Whenever I travel far I try to obey all the laws. We usually only bring a little corn for the road. I was hoping to camp in the woods, and I definitely will try now that I know bugs aren't typically an issue!

My brother is a criminal defense attorney in the area by Summercamp and he had a few clients who got pulled over and arrested for that very issue leaving Summercamp. It was entrapment. Also had a few clients who got busted for corn possession on their way into Summercamp-- they came from medical states and didn't realize that once they got to IL their medical card didn't protect them anymore. Don't be one of those ppl!

I live in Peoria, just down the road from scamp....i must know this guys name for any uhhh future problems i may have, "haha"
"Dude, triponthis said you'd give me an awesome rate"
Coming in is the same as roo, as long as you obey the rules of the road you're fine. Further more, Buying VIP at the end of this week. comes with a thursday pass, and a late night. my buddy will be getting one, as a gift from yours truly, but he swears up and down that he's not going to camp vip, but go in to the woods. bums me out.

streetbum, if u want i can P M you my brothers info. Hopefully you will never need to use him. But as for the VIP/woods thing, you can still camp in the woods in VIP. the whole back part of VIP camping is wooded. But once again, they fill up fast. Since ur so close, you can get there really early to snag a good spot.

haha, at this moment I'm good. BUT if I do get in trouble, Ill track you down. I tried explaining to my buddy that he can camp in the woods...but he wants to camp on the trail in reg camping, where it gets weird. BUT I go in on thursday, he goes in on Friday. When I go in, i generally spread my stuff out to save room for him in our regular spot. But I won't be in the regular spot this year, so I dont know how his camping spot will pan out this year.
i hope they light up the trail behind VIP again like they did in 09 I think. I was in VIP that year, but really jealous of the campers in the woods along that trail. Lots of weirdness going on along that path.. which I like, makes me feel somewhat sane even when im far from it -- if that makes sense lol. Well, good luck man. Im still tryin to score a ticket for the claypool late night -- gonna need some luck myself in that dept.
No its not sold out, in fact, i dont think the late nights have even gone on sale yet for the non-VIP campers. BUT since there are a limited number of tix available due to the size of the Red Barn where the late nights take place, you have to get lucky to be on the phone with ETIX right when the tix are released or online when they are released. They sell out almost immediately.
Yeah I don't think they've been released either. That's good to know! I don't know why I didn't think of that, how would they not sell out almost instantly? Hahahah. Thanks for the heads up! +1 for you!
Here's a bump with some Summercamp love. My only fest this summer, and holy c*** is it turning out to be epic. I can't wait to call out of work the day the late nights go on sale to try and snag some.

welcome pancake -- and good luck with the late nights. If I dont score any when they go on sale, I'll be watching Scamp's fbook closely as we get closer to the festival, people that can't go will be posting them on there too. Hopefully it won't matter but it's an option. Even Stubhub has had some 3 day passes and thurs pre-party passes already.

So I just noticed the schedule, I totally want to go, but reading all of this info makes me think twice.
First, how far is it really from your car? I'm not afraid of a walk but a mile hike might be another story.
Second, not permitting outside alcohol is kind of bogus. Say I do sneak some in, is it going to draw a lot of attention from the fuzz? What are the beer prices in the campgrounds?
Late nights... I noticed that Cornmeal plays at 2am, does that cost extra to go to, or is it only the shows in the Red Barn that cost extra?
What's the crowd like there? Is it a lot of candy kids or is it a good mix?
I haven't been to this fest before myself, but to my understanding only the shows in the Red Barn cost extra because there's a limited capacity. I'd say that it can't hurt to try to sneak in some booze, worst case scenario, they take it at the gate.

Frank, Chellaroo is right, the only late nights that cost extra are the ones in the Red Barn. There will be plenty of late night music that is included in your ticket price. You can sneak booze in and nobody will think anything of it because they sell beer in bulk at the general stores that people take to their campsites so there will be beer/booze everywhere as is. Beer prices on site at the vendor avg $5 or so for a 16oz cup, depending on what you drink. 312 by Goose Island Brewery is one of the main sponsors so expect to see a lot of their beer on tap all over the place. A few of the beer vendors actually have full bars and there is a full bar in the vibe tent as well if you are into cocktails or shots. Oh, and the trek from the parking lot to the camping areas isn't a mile, not even close. But lots of people bring wagons to haul all their gear so they can do it in one trip and its easier than carrying everything. As for the crowd, its a mix like most festivals, with a heavy Chicago influence.

I eases my mind a little bit. Is anyone organizing a meet up? I'm debating going to Zac Brown's Southern Ground fest or Summer Camp this year. Before y'all hate on ZBB, I went to Southern Ground last year on Friday only and had a blast. The venue is awesome, the vibe was great, just had an overall great time.

Decided not to do the VIP upgrade, BUT!!!! Scored two Friday LN tickets.
frank, me being a whiskey drinker, have never had a problem getting whiskey in with apple juice bottles. You can sneak in alcohol just hide it well. they will kind of go through your cooler to inspect. It does become a pain if you have to carry everything in without a cart. You may get parked pretty far back.

There my be a problem with this. The person who ordered the LN has to pick them up. Basically you show your ID, your C.card used to order, and they give you the wristband then. If you have two, you have to pick them up at the same time. Thus I have to wait for my buddy to get there to pick up the LN wristbands at the same time, otherwise they will only give me one.

yea I know dude, last year i bought one off of somebody there and had to be real careful how i cut it off them. When i went into the barn i just kind of flashed my wrist at the guy at the door and he let me pass without much inspection. To be honest, on another night somebody was talking to the guy at the door distracting him and i just walked right in w/no wristband. Never got caught BUT i'm not going to be relying on this method or anything it was just kind of a right time right place thing. I had two computers going and didn't get any late nights. I'm kind of bummed so will be looking for people at the fest with extras i guess. i wanted Fri and Sat.

left work and sat at home at 11:55, with constant f5, f5, f5. I think the fact that i just got a new really fast computer, and a decent internet speed is the reason i got them. If I had tried at work, i would have been SOL.

Im pretty sure Sunday is the only one day option. As far as selling out, I don't think it will or ever has. You could contact someone through their website for confirmation I'm sure.
Post by StreetBum87 on May 1, 2012 10:44:11 GMT -5
Like trip said, they only offer Sunday single days. since it's a camping fest, and not a go in for a day and leave fest like lolla, they can only offer the last day. As far as I'm aware, they never really sell out, but you will be paying extra for the ticket.

3 weeks from tomorrow! can't wait!
to sneak in alcohol, rolling it up in your sleeping bag or tent always works. Also, I've been able to sneak in a few cans of beer in my backpack with my clothes
camping in the woods is fun, but a heads up to anyone camping there the first time, be ready for a 4 day non-stop party, and it gets pretty weird at 3-4 in the morning
