Anyone already got a ticket for this? I bought VIP a while back.
I'll be getting VIP once I get the money. Right when I didn't think it was going to be of any use last year, it lets me skip the line for Future Islands, which also allowed me to catch part of Toro Y Moi's set.
I wouldn't do it if it were like other festivals and ridiculously expensive, but it's only $50 more, and $165 is still a great deal for all the music I get to see

I had the exact same experience. It made no difference all weekend until I tried to get into Future Islands on Sunday. That was the only time I went to Lincoln Theatre all weekend, though, so I don't know if that was always a problem there. Most of the small venues kind of work themselves out...if you can't fit through the door, most people kind of give up. But VIP is definitely an advantage for bigger venues with stricter one-in-one-out rules.
I had a hard time getting into some shows GA last year. No way I go through that again. The only show I don't think anyone could get into unless they planned it way early was Japandroids.
Plus, they've already announced two new venue additions (a church in Moore Square and Memorial Auditorium, which is in the same complex as Fletcher Opera Hall), which means they can sell more tickets, which means it will be harder to get into the smaller clubs. The church looks like it can hold a couple hundred an Memorial's capacity is 2000+, so that's a lot more tickets.

Wow, their website doesn't have jack poop for information that I could find. Like what kind of festival is this? What's the layout how does it work? Only by reading this thread and the googles was I able to get any real information as to what to expect. That was kind of annoying...
Looks like allot of fun and I LOVE Raleigh, NC, but I'm not a fan of the multiple-venues-all-over-town type fests. From the site -"* Admission to all Hopscotch shows is based on legal capacity of venues." - and that is exactly why. I'd need some super exciting headliners to get me there.

EDIT: But I'm not writing this one off just yet!
For what it's worth, the main headliners play on a large outdoor stage that has more than enough room. I don't think anywhere but the Lincoln Theatre had capacity issues, and even that was manageable if you timed it right.
My only real problem with this fest is that I felt like I had conflicts nearly every second of the day, but that's a good problem to have.

Good to know problem dog. Guess I'll wait for the headliners to be announced to make my decision. Otherwise I could just go to Raleigh and have a blast festival or no.
Their website will have information when they release the lineup on the 18th. All of the venues are within 10 minutes walking distance max. It's a very well set up festival.

"We're very excited to announce that Durham's the Mountain Goats will perform rarities and a set of heavy metal covers on piano at Hopscotch 2012, in Fletcher Opera Theater."

"We are incredibly excited to announce the biggest Hopscotch production yet—a 40-person performance of Matthew E. White's brilliant debut record, due in August through Hometapes."

Incredible lineup once again. Built to Spill and Liars are two of my favorite bands, and The Roots and JAMC are A+ headliners. The undercard is stacked, too. Deerhoof, Carlos Giffoni, Kevin frickin' Drumm, Screaming Females, Lambchop, Mark McGuire, G-Side.
