At Hopscotch, John Darnielle will play two sets by himself on the same night in Fletcher Opera Theater. He will perform solo, mostly with an acoustic guitar, offering the sort of rarities that the band’s most devoted fans howl for at every show, full rock band or no. “If you have been to a North Carolina Mountain Goats solo set, you already know about that kind of set and bear the marks on your body to prove it,” Darnielle says. “Come on out and get your wounds re-opened.”
The second set, however, will be unlike any in the 20-year history of the Mountain Goats—all covers, possibly all on Fletcher’s beautiful grand piano, all by himself. A lifelong metal fan and longtime columnist for the extreme music magazine Decibel, Darnielle says he plans to spend a portion of the summer arranging and learning covers of heavy metal songs. “The tentative title for this set,” Darnielle says, “is ‘Nearer My Hateful Mankind Plague to Thee,’ but titles are subject to change.

It's going to be tonight till I can pick up tickets. I'm just going to do the regular as well. I have a room reserved for the Days Inn though, already.
I knew JAMC rescheduled a show for New Orleans for the 5th but I was thinking ATP and not Hopscotch. Never dawned on me this was why, honestly.

You can get a room at the Days Inn for $57/night right now, but you've got to pre-pay. I just can't do that until I know exactly what my job situation will be in September. I've probably got some time, though. I booked my room there in late July last year, and it looked like they might have only been at half-capacity the weekend of the festival. Rates probably go up, though.

Yeah, every time I look at the lineup I see something I had either overlooked or forgotten about. Like Chris Corsano and Koen Holtkamp. I'm going to be sick if I have to miss this one.

How did I miss Corsano?!? Holy.Poop. Koen Holtkamp is an artist I only know by name from the Thrill Jockey roster. I'll have to look into him more.

Looks like the KARosko Inn will be a packed house on this particular weekend. But fret not, the staff is amongst the friendliest in town and recently won the "Best Hair" award in the local rag. The most unique feature of this hotel is that there is but one house rule: that there are no house rules. All are welcome, just make sure you bring a sleeping bag; I only have one couch. I'll keep a running list and you guys can just update me closer to the fest if you actually do decide going. We live like 10 minutes from downtown, and it'll probably just take one drive up there since everything is within walking distance at this fest. Also, who is bringing +1s? Here's who I got so far:
