Why not though? They are hints after all.
It's odd to me that he said"title". You don't say the "title" of x band is y. You say name. And when Gary has given previous hints he hasnt referred to the artist in question with the word "title". If he didnt want to hint at something else, he could have shortened his answer. ie- "No 'dead' in the name. He didnt do that. He gave a long hint and I do think we can infer a few things from it, including that the act probably has a title in the name. Dr., Mr., Lady, Sir, Reverend, etc. We'll see in 2 weeks, but this interpretation makes the most sense to me.
1. Annie Erin Clark goes by the stage name St. Vincent 2. "I am that I am"=God. In the catholic church, in order for a person to officially be canonized as a saint, They have to have performed 2 miracles. Miracles are defined by the catholic church as a divine act of god.
3. The bodies of a handful of saints have been found to be incorrupt by the church(considered a miracle). When this happens the church will put the body on display. Meaning that they will literally put the body in a glass case and display it in the church.(a google search of this will bring up some pretty creepy pictures). One of the saints whos body was found to be incorrupt was St. Vincent DePaul. This would be the performing cadaver part.
4. And the look to the eye of the storm? St. Vincent is also the name of an island in the Caribbean. Besides the island being an active volcano it is also located on the hurricane belt. Most recently Hurricane Tomas passed directly over the island.
She's playing like three shows in Tennessee right before Roo, I imagine they wouldn't book her with those dates.
Yeah, that makes it highly unlikely.
But she is a good match for those clues. And she does have a title in her name. I could see this being the answer, even though I'm sticking with Gaga as the most probable.
It's odd to me that he said"title". You don't say the "title" of x band is y. You say name.
Right, but we're not talking about a band. We're talking about a solo artist, in which case "name" implies...y'know, the person's name. If you wanted to leave open the possibility that the person goes by a stage name, "title" would be one of the easiest ways to do so quickly.
And when Gary has given previous hints he hasnt referred to the artist in question with the word "title".
He...hasn't referred to their names at all. Gary has never before directly referred to an artist's name, so don't try to use precedent to infer anything when there isn't any precedent here.
It's not that I think the artist in question couldn't possibly have a "title" in their stage name, it's just that there are some guesses being thrown around with VERY tenuous logic and people are acting like they're perfect fits, only because they fit this other criteria that people are inferring without much basis.
All I'm saying is having a title in an artist's stage name isn't a replacement for them actually fitting the clue.
She's playing like three shows in Tennessee right before Roo, I imagine they wouldn't book her with those dates.
St Vincent refers to a saint(I am what I am), a performing cadaver(named after a saint whose body is displayed in the vatican), and an island on the hurricane belt(look to the eye of the storm). idk...that would be quite the coincidence if it wasn't her. I could be wrong but I'm sticking with my guess lol.
festivals book artists that have played in that state in the same year all the time. ACL gets bands that play in the same city as the festival in the same year. Not the case for the headliners, but St. Vincent wouldn't be a headliner. I'd say it's very probable

Look, of course Gary has never used the name of an artist in a clue; that would invalidate the entire point of the clue and obviously was not what I was saying. I mean that in casual conversation you wouldnt ask, "What's the title of the act?" You would say, "What' the name of the act? Or the "moniker". Calling an act by "title" IS weird.
Of course, its possible that "title" has nothing to do with the answer. But you can't just say it doesnt or that there's no point to consider the implications of "title". That's what we do with every clue. We analyze words and evaluate their potential to be informative to the answer. You don't KNOW that the answer doesnt have a title in the clue any more than you know that it does, so I don't understand your resistance to the possibility.
And how am I using "title" to justify an answer that otherwise doesnt fit the clue? St. Vincent and Lady Gage fit EVERY portion of the clue perfectly (and pretty much more straightforwardly than any of the other clues so far this year). I don't understand how its "VERY tenuous" logic in either case.

Oh, my goodness.
I didn't say he used the name of an artist in a clue, I said he never used the word NAME in a hint.
And I didn't say that the answer couldn't have a title in the clue, in fact I specifically said it could.
I have no major issues with the St. Vincent logic, but for Lady Gaga...the connections just aren't there.
Gaga doesn't MEAN god, Gaga IS a god. A minor Babylonian deity. So (a) getting there from a line in the Bible is a bit of a stretch and (b) can you find me anybody who's actually familiar with that god? Even if you use the - operator to get rid of search results for Lady Gaga, I went though several pages of Google results for "gaga" without finding that. I'm pretty sure Gary is not an ancient Babylonian. It's not impossible that he's somehow familiar with the god Gaga, but it seems highly unlikely, and it's even less likely that he would use something so esoteric as a clue.
Beyond that - performing cadaver, okay. That's a reasonable connection. Eye of the storm, not so much.
From what I've read, the logic for the Lady Gaga/Performing cadaver part is that she looks like a vampire on the cover of her album. Not sure how sound that logic is.

1- I am that I am= the name of God. Gaga is a god's name. That’s really not reaching at all. It’s reaching for you to have to call that logic out just to justify your oppositional stance. I’m not saying Gaga is the answer. It may not be. But it’s ridiculous that you think that connection is a reach. And yes, of course Gary does do research when he crafts the clues! And we do a hell of a lot of it when figuring out the answers. Think about how many times removed the answers are for Fruit Bats, or Battles. Really? He really doesn’t expect us to do esoteric research? That’s ALL WE DO when figuring out the answers to these clues. Sylvia is a random play! It’s a much thinner connection for the previous answers to the solved clues than Gaga actually being the name of a god (which happened to be worshiped in the same general geographic area where Moses spoke to God in that quote). And I didn’t know Gaga meant God at all until I researched Gaga for a whole 5 minutes. I think Gary gives at least 5 minutes of thought before writing a clue…Maybe even 10… 2- Um, the vampire on the cover is not the reason she is a performing cadaver. She is a performing cadaver because she PERFORMS AS A CADAVER in concert….That was stated on the first page with a link… It might not even be Gaga. I like the St. Vincent logic too. But it’s ridiculous that people are SO opposed to that being the answer to the clue that they are acting like very obvious and clear connections to Gaga just CANNOT exist.

So are we ruling out Paul Mccartney because he would be too big and we already have our headliners?
"I am that I am" - Excerpt from an article I found online that references this and Paul Mccartney: So what is this I AM, is it God or is it human? Well, simply put, it is both. The I AM is that part of God that is in us. And the main thing that it does in us is make us creative. Whenever we express our talent, in those amazing moments when we do great things, it is the I AM expressing itself in us and we can become aware of it. The most powerful example I can give about this is from a conversation between Michael Parkinson and Paul McCartney which went like this: “This is just me in here. Paul McCartney is some guy over there doing amazing things. If I thought that was me constantly it would blow my head off.”
"a performing cadaver"- "Paul is dead" urban legend.
"Look to the eye of the storm." - Once dated the sister of Rory Storm.
Plus the if the "title" reference actually means something it could be referring to "Sir" or "Macca"
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

HA! As if that weren't enough Rory Storm was in a band called Rory Storm and The Hurricanes! Could it be? Sir Paul McCartney at Bonnaroo???

I was referring to the fact that you solve these things are solve by using logic and reasoning.
Look how beautifully obscure all of these clues are. They are thought out so well that it takes tons of random people looking at things from different perspectives countless hours to solve. And they are only a sentence or two long. Every part of the clue directly points to part of the answer. if it doesn't link up somehow then it's probably not right.
"I am that I am" comes from the bible. it's the unspeakable name of God. Gaga, was an ancient Babylonian deity (aka god). it has nothing to do with anything related to the quote we were given. I guess you could say the Babylonians live in the same area where Moses saw the burning bush, even that's kind of a stretch. That event was said to take place in Egypt. The Babylonians lived in the area of what is now modern day Iraq.

ALSO "eye of the storm" is a novel by someone named john ringo. quite the name combination/coincidence.

Well, then, it could be Paul and Ringo. Just joking...
But, I do think that Fudge Factory's logic behind his Paul guess is sound. I stuck my neck out for clue 7 though (just for the record, I still think it's WTT, quack GC's hints! costing me 10 beers) and I'm not gonna do that again :-)

Trust me, I fully understand it probably isn't Paul. But the connections are there.

Oh, I agree with you, man, no doubt. Connections are there.
I would love for Macca to come to the farm anyway. Him being on the Grammy's, another album coming out, also lends creedence to him making an appearance this year. But, I digress, wish in one hand...

Okay, once again...I didn't say he doesn't do research. Of course he does. And I didn't say he doesn't expect us to do esoteric research.
What I SAID was that the Gaga-god connection is not something you would find if you weren't looking for it. Good for you, it only took you five minutes to find a connection between two things you wanted to connect. You can connect pretty much any two things if you want to. But you have to think about this in reverse - if you were writing a clue for Lady Gaga, and wanted to come up with some relatively obscure way to refer to her stage name, how on earth would you find that minor Babylonian deity? Really, try it out. Even if you toss out the results with the word "lady" there's still nothing in the first 20 pages of Google results for "gaga" about that god. You think he went through more than 20 pages of results? And bypassed several other things that would have worked, like gaga the movement language, and ga-ga the Israeli dodgeball game? Seems highly unlikely to me.
Unless you can figure out how a clue-writer might have found the Gaga-god connection, I don't think there's any merit to it.

I think they're ruled out by Gary's hint, or at least they are as long as we're right in assuming that his hint means we need a solo act. Unfortunately.

Jesus, this is going to be my last post on the subject because this argument really isn't worthwhile. I don't even think this is the answer. I'm just defending the possibility.
Look, I think its rational to assume that when Gary crafts clues he goes to an encyclopedia, or as most of us do, Wikipedia. Were he to go there and just type Gaga and see what pops up, he would see its a Babylonian God. There are only 10 things that pop up in wiki under Gaga and that is one of them. Is this really so ridiculous and impossible? Truly? I mean how does he find other obscure references like "queens delight" ? Or sylvia? I don't think its crazy to assume he looks up the words that make up an act's name in Wikipedia or some other encylopedia. If he did that with Gaga, he would see it was a God.
Is this crazy to assume he could have done this? Ok, now I'm done with this. And for the record, I do like the St. Vincent logic more. It's just hilarious to see how far people will go to prove it is impossible for an answer to ever be Gaga.

...just for the record, I'm not arguing with that guess because I don't want it to be Lady Gaga. I'd totally be down with that, ngl. I just don't think she's the answer to this clue, but I suppose we shall see in time as far as that goes.
Not that it really matters I suppose, but I get the impression you think I'm against that logic solely because it leads to Lady Gaga, and that's not the case at all. I don't want you to think I'm just rejecting your guess blindly or anything - I don't know why you'd care so much that I don't agree with your guess unless it was annoyance that you thought I was throwing it out without due consideration, so I'm kinda guessing that's the case - so I figured I'd throw it out there in case it lessened your annoyance with me at all. Lady Gaga at Roo would actually be pretty sweet, in my humble (and probably not very popular) opinion - but I doubt she'd be a clue answer at this point in the game, and I don't think she's the answer for this clue. That's all. Just little old me not thinking your guess is right - and what do I know, anyway? ;D
what if it's... KATY PERRY?! alright so "performing cadaver": she used to be a christian rock artist under the name katy hudson, killed that persona and became katy perry "i am that i am": she used to be a christian rock artist "look to the eye of the storm": if think of the storm as the world of music, then what type of music is the biggest, most well promoted... Pop.
i really feel like you can make any clue refer to almost any act you want it to if you try hard enough. maybe gary just throws these at us without any band in mind, then finds an explanation he likes that fits a band he knows is on the lineup and confirms them.... back on track now sorry. are we still looking at gaga as the best guess here. gary really needs to throw us some help

Maybe he should give clues to bands that will *not* appear. This way he could limit clues to big, well known bands, and confirm when we've correctly guessed answers to clues about bands we can count out.

I'd say St. Vincent is most likely. The Eye of the Storm part seems especially fitting. I'd say Gaga is 2. Macca 3? We do need help...
