Fairly shocked he did so many songs from his other bands. No complaints though, that looks incredible. Gonna try and stay away from the new songs until I hear the record and not a YouTube recording. But man, if he was added, I would lose it.

Was front and center for WS in 07 and Rac in 08 -- probably 2 of my top 5 shows at roo ever. Jack White being added would immediately make him my #2 after Radiohead.
I hope Detective was dropping a subtle hint. You have to think that if Neil Young and Crazy horse fell through, they would be sitting on a good chunk of change to use for a big addition. Looking at the current lineup, I see him being #4 listed after Phish. or at least # 5 after the Beach Boys.
Dang, what a setlist! I am surprised that he played so much of his past catalog as well. A part of me is sad to see so many Stripes songs on there, is nothing sacred? But seriously, I'm sure they will destroy live just as they did back in the day. Can't wait to see him rockin' again.
i went to the chattanooga show last night. it was great as well. a little different than the third man show. only played 16, only brought along the all-female band, and he only did one each of Racs & DW songs (Top Yourself and Cut Like a Buffalo). there were still plenty Stripes songs, and they were sooo good. especially Ball and Biscuit, Slowly Turning Into You and Hotel Yorba. i reeeeally hope he gets added to roo.

The Stripes songs are Jack White's songs. Meg White may be his sisterwife, but she's not a great drummer and most likely contributed very little to the creation of any White Stripes songs. White Stripes is just Jack White solo with a mediocre drummer. No disrespect meant to you, but it's not like he's playing songs written by a dead bandmate or something like that. (Ala Sublime with Rome)

You have obviously never seen the White Stripes live.

I know that they're supposed to have awesome chemistry, but that doesn't make up for the fact that Meg isn't a great drummer. If Jack White toured with only a drummer (someone that was good) it'd be a better show. I know that everyone claims that Meg's "unique" drumming style allows Jack White to vomit awesome and fart rainbows, but she still isn't a good musician and contributes little the creation and execution of the songs.

It may be a better show but it wouldn't be The White Stripes.
There are many people that think they know what would be better for Jack and/or The White Stripes but in this instance I'll always go with what Jack thinks is best and he obviously thinks working with Meg makes the best show....otherwise he would have dumped her for a "good" drummer years ago.

I know it wouldn't be the White Stripes. I'm not trying to diss the band. The White Stripes are one of my favorite bands ever and I listen to them almost daily. I'm just saying that in reality, Meg isn't a great drummer and that she doesn't contribute musically to the band in a significant way. She gets co-credit on two White Stripes songs and that's it. Ringo Starr contributed more to the Beatles than Meg did to the Stripes. Also Jack seems to be clearly displaying that he doesn't need Meg to play his songs.

Jack White has defended his White Stripes bandmate Meg's drumming skills, reports Nme.com.
The singer and guitarist said he thinks Meg receives unfair criticism from people because of her gender. He praised Meg for "inspiring people" to start drumming, and for not over-complicating her playing.
"Her femininity and extreme minimalism are too much to take for some metalheads and reverse-contrarian hipsters," White told the New York Post.
"She can do what those with 'technical prowess' can't. She inspires people to bash on pots and pans. For that, they repay her with gossip and judgement."
He continued by saying that Meg has the last laugh over her critics. "In the end she's laughing all the way to the Prada handbag store," he said. "She wins every time."
Come on, now. Hahaha. Really? She's not a good drummer. Her minimalist approach and femininity are just excuses to make her feel better. There's lots of good Female drummers, Moe Tucker, Teresa Taylor, Cindy Blackman, Jodi Lindscott. And if minimalism is to be appreciated then surely you all must think that Phil Rudd is an excellent drummer as well? By the way, how many of you play drums?
Honestly, I'm sorry that I've turned this into a discussion about Meg's drumming skills when I should be talking about how much I want Jack White at Bonnaroo. There is a chemistry between them, and she's not a horrible drummer. I'm just saying that Jack White shouldn't be scolded for playing songs that were solely his creation.

I don't think anyone was scolding Jack for playing the songs. I think the feeling is that most of us are surprised that he played that many of them. Not all of us were expecting to see this much WS tunes in the setlist, for whatever reason.
Meg is the secret weapon of The White Stripes, and the perfect compliment to Jack's songwriting style. Magic happened when those two played together...
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Meg White is not a good drummer.
Meg White is an integral part of The White Stripes.
The two are not mutually-exclusive. Those arguing that TWS would have been somehow better with a better drummer are missing the point of TWS. The White Stripes is/was Jack and Meg. Without both, you don't have The White Stripes. Part of the mystique and legacy Jack built the band on depends on Meg and the minimalism that was required due to her relatively sub-par technical skills.
TWS with a good drummer/full band is called The Raconteurs.
I think I can conclude this thread detour by saying: the Stripes were something truly special, but Jack is an amazing performer and songwriter, and we're all excited to see him live again.
