Yeah that's why my friend wouldn't stay there. he said it seemed sketchy as well. The reviews aren't too great- I wouldn't go there expecting great amenities and service. But if you're just looking for a bed and a roof over your head, I think it would be alright. My only concern about where I stay is not to be in a bad neighborhood where I'm going to get mugged or something. How threatening could chinatown be?
Ugh so I just got off the phone with this dude who barely spoke English. I asked if they had a website I could reserve a room through and he said no. So I start giving him the dates, etc. He said they'd take my CC info but not charge me until I check in. So he gets all my info, then puts me on hold to get my rates. Comes back and says $450 for 3 nights LOOOL. I tell him online on expedia, hotels.com, etc is only $225 for 3 nights. He tells me to book through them. Bastard.
And of course those travel sites require the WHOLE amount up front That was what I was trying to avoid.

As of the week of lineup drop last year they still had rooms available at that price. Save up for a couple weeks, and get a room right before lineup drop to be safe. It will still be there
Personally I'm waiting til I see a lineup before making any decisions. My girlfriend is pushing for me to go to HARD LA that weekend with her. I'm hoping Lolla's lineup looks something like the "leak". If perry's stage lineup is anything like that I'm pretty certain I can convince her to come to Lolla instead.

I stayed in the chinatown Inn for lolla 2010. It was fine, just not enough towels. It was a 30 minute walk from the park, really cheap, just paid when we got there.
Food was awesome and cheap nearby too. I'd recommend it. we snuck 9 people in our room and slept on the floors in sleeping bags and made it super cheap.

For those of you that have been - how kid friendly is it compared to Roo?
There is no way we can get babysitters again for this since we are going to Roo but it's killing me that both Beck and Metallica are on the lineup. I'm thinking that since we aren't all that far from Chicago and if they would both be playing the same day that we would just say "quack it" and take the kids just for the day.

thanks for posting this! ill def be booking a room through expedia for the $225 for 3 nights. how is the neighborhood? sketchy at all during the walk from the hotel to the venues?

Remember, the guys from the Lolla board are saying that "Leak" is highly suspect. So it may not be Beck and Metallica at all.
That said. I think Lolla is very kid friendly. They have the kid stage where they have a bunch of bands booked for children and a number of the mainstream artists will do guest sets as well. They also have a lot of activities in the same area. It's pretty well shaded over there too. I know I often stop by and watch a couple of acts for a nice break. It always look like the kids are having a blast.

Is this for the Chinatown Hotel? I dont see a Chinatown Inn. But if it's the hotel, you're not going to want to walk there, take the train. It's also a long ways away from all of the after shows. I think Chinatown is safe enough from the train to the hotel.

That lollaleaks person is not legitimate. S/he had Sonic Youth (final show) as a headliner and Thurston Moore is playing a solo date in Denmark the Monday after Lollapalooza.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Haha I feel so dumb. In my defense I read the huffington post article, which suggested he had leaked the lineup in past years, so I thought he could be credible. After seeing all the b.s. that goes on over these boards I really should know better by now

I wouldn't stay in Chinatown if you planned on going to any of the after shows. It's far away from everything, plus I wouldn't say it is the safest walking around at 2am when you get home. If you don't mind it, I think there is a Best Western in the middle of Boystown-- close to The Metro, The Vic, The Aragon and The Riv where they have after shows. Plus it is close to public transit down to Grant Park.
Lolla is very kid friendly, lot's of "earmuff babies" walking around.
Laggy, are you going to 'roo? Do you want me to bring down some of that Metropolis Coffee you got hooked on?

Ooooh.. I would appreciate that greatly. But unfortunately, no, I'm not going to make it this year. Too many days off during the busiest month at work. This year I'm either doing Lolla or Moogfest.. or maybe HARD LA, cause my girlfriend has been pushing me to check that out with her.t Thank you, though.

Tune-Yards just announced a bunch of summer dates on their website. They are performing in Pontiac, Michigan on August 2nd (the day before Lolla). It looks like a pretty safe bet she will be at the festival.
Florence and the Machine are probably playing, they just announced a bunch of dates in the Chicago area (Detroit/Cleveland/Toronto/Indy) and have a gap around Lolla.
Is the Best Western expensive? What other cheap hotels are in that area?
Look up Days Inn Lincoln Park and The Willows Hotel. There are a couple associated with The Willows but I don't recall their names. Also the Belden Stratford. All smaller hotels in the neighborhoods that aren't horrible.

When I read the headliners I pretty much dismissed Lolla. But if that is a true leak, then I'm in. That's a stacked undercard! Plus headliners are opposed so it doesn't mean too much that I only like a few. I haven't been to Lolla since 09 (I also went 08). I miss it. If I go, I'd be hitting all 3 of the major US fests in one year!
For hotels, I have two suggestions. In 08 we slept 7 in a 4 person room very comfortably with only 1 air mattress at Club Quarters in the loop. It's on Adams I think, about 7 blocks from the entrance to Lolla. This past summer I went to Pitchfork. We stayed in a hotel, I forget what one, 2 blocks from Chinatown. It was great! It was just a typical hotel, like a best western or something, but the Chinatown metro was just on the other side of Chinatown, like 5 blocks from us. Let me tell you, Chinatown was not sketchy at all. Everyone we met was really nice. We ate at a semi-famous Chinese restaurant, Lao Szechuan, and we also found a Dim Sun place that was open until 3 or 4 in the morning. I couldn't have been happier with our location. It was also the weekend of the Chinatown festival, which was really cool. Anyway, I'm sure it's more expensive during Lolla, but I'd definitely check it out of I were you.
I'm sticking with my theory that Black Keys are headlining one night.. they did say they are headlining two major US festivals.. Lolla and Outside Lands are the only two possibilities left right?
Outside Lands isn't a possibility due to Oya Fest.
If they play Lolla, they'll have a week to get from Chicago to Oslo, but Florence and the Machine will be doing the same thing. They're playing Chicago in March, which makes it a little less likely, but still possible.
ACLFest seems highly likely. I don't see any dates beyond August for them.
