We saw them in Pittsburgh last Saturday and it was our 10th show and it was probably the best yet. Such an amazing set list.
Yeah I'm not digging Seth's braids. They were kind of cute the first time I saw them but now, not so much. The fans have actually all been calling him Sethajawea. Ha

Great set list. No braids for Seth tonight. Awesome show. Can't wait for Roo. I don't expect it to be wildly different than their last Roo show but it should still be a solid full set.

Here was the set from the show last night:
John Brown's Dream ([traditional] cover) Colorshow Talk on Indolence Down with the Shine Thank God I'm a Country Boy (John Denver cover) Morning Song Skin and Bones Another Is Waiting Live and Die Laundry Room Old Joe Clark (Traditional cover) Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise Pretty Girl from Chile Murder in the City The Ballad of Love and Hate Swept Away Go to Sleep Kick Drum Heart Geraldine Vanity I and Love and You
Encore: Fireball Mail(Traditional cover) Will the Circle Be Unbroken (Traditional cover) Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite (The Spaniels cover)
They tour quite a bit. Does anyone think that will cut into the amount of people wanting to see them at Bonnaroo? I expect their set to be solid as usual but I just wonder if it will be thinned out since they tour so much.

I think they are more popular than ever now and think the show will be full. I can't believe how much they've grown in the almost 3 yrs we've been seeing them live.

I think they'll have a decent crowd but it depends on who they're up against. I do think that it makes it easier for people to skip them considering how active they are.

Sunday usually has some killer Tent Closers and Which Stage closer is always a big name. I think they'll have a decent crowd but they'll have some popular bands and a superjam against them.

That's how I'm feeling about them this year. In 2012 they were a must-see for me, and I've caught them on tour since then. I wouldn't mind seeing them again this year but if I miss them I don't mind.
If Bonnaroo is smart, they'll be scheduling some pop/rock bands far from the genre of the Avetts during their slot. Any fan of them will probably choose their show over someone else, assuming bands of the same taste aren't playing.

I was so bummed in 2012 when they were on the same time as Trampled by Turtles. We chose the Avetts but luckily were able to see TbT the next day on the smaller stage and got to meet them after so it all worked out

It's good. I just prefer earlier stuff more. I want a bit more grime on the album. Like I said earlier, I prefer the demo version of "Vanity" to the album one. More acoustic and harmonizing. They still deliver live and their show translated well at Barclay's.

I agree, but it is nice to see some diversity. Surely they'll play a beautiful, transitional balance between their discography.

Those braids Seth wore on the tonight show are literally the only thing I don't want to see from them at Roo. They're in my top 3 priorities for this year! I don't know why the new album isn't beloved by all. I adore it.

I was really disappointed with The Once and Future Carpenter so I was glad that Magipie felt like it had better flow and more like their earlier stuff.

That album has really grown on me. It took awhile but I really love it now.

I was not impressed by the Avett's show I saw in Savannah this weekend. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was but the last few shows have lost their magic for me. For one, the venue was full of mostly college students. The plaid and knee boots overload was a little much but I survived. Behind me stood the loudest, drunkest, most obnoxious girl ever. She shouted "January Wedding" after every song and when we arrived in our seats, the first words out of her mouth were, "I just might get thrown out of there tonight." She eventually spilled beer on my jacket and skirt. I didn't say anything but just turned all the way around and stared at her while visions of ripping out her carefully placed, highlighted hair out flashed through my head.
Usually everyone is singing along but this night only a handful were and everyone else was talking loudly. I'm guessing that the big fans came out the night before. Bob was definitely on fire. His playing and signing was some of the best I've ever heard. The mics seemed to be too low on both Scott and Seth. We weren't that far back and I couldn't hear their vocals half of the time.

That sucks. You can probably blame that on their popularity.
I'm friends with a lot of really hardcore fans that go to 20+ shows a year (whereas I only make it to about 4ish) and I've heard that a lot of the shows are becoming more and more like this and I'm sure it's because of their popularity. It seems to be hit and miss though. There is nothing worse than having someone like that near you at a show though. That's one of the advantages of being part of the Avett fan community is that when you know people at every show you can meet up and surround yourselves by like minded people and try to push the annoying drunks out.
I think that they are at the height of their popularity now and things will eventually die back down and someday they'll be back to smaller shows and all the fair weather fans will have moved on. Hopefully.
Saw them last night. They had seven people on stage for like 70% of the show. When did they become the Arcade Fire?
Was it members of Old Crow Medicine Show joining them on stage? I had a blast when they brought those guests out. It wasn't a majority of the show for us in Brooklyn. Mostly the opening song, then one in the middle, and the closing songs/encores. They added a lot to our show.

Nah, it was the standard lineup + 2. The dude who was filling in for Bob when his daughter had health issues was on piano/organ duty, and they had a violinist.
Didn't really add much, in my opinion. Gave the music a kind of sanitized feel. Definitely my least favorite of five teams seeing the band.
