I am starting to think we should make beer bets on this. There's been a bunch of speculation about it since Coachella sold out so fast this year (1 day in 2012 for two weekends vs. 7 days in 2011 for one weekend). Bonnaroo sold out May 14th last year for the second sell-out ever. I would be worried as well that late April may be too late this year, but I am not sure.

I'm in for this.
I think the end of March is a good time-frame. Not because of Coachella but because there seems to be so much buzz about it this year.

I don't think it's because of Coachella. Excluding one wonderful mod, I don't think there is a ton of crossover between Roo and Coachella. I think it just shows that people have disposable income and are increasingly willing to spend it on festival.
As far as buzz, the headliners are going to pull people in. Also, I think the ticket issues last week are actually going to work into Bonnaroo's favor. On Get Satisfaction and Facebook, there seems to be an anxiety about Roo selling out that was not there last year which leads me to believe that people are going to jump on tickets faster this year whereas they felt comfortable waiting some last year.

Spot on. I think this is the year we see a f*ckton of festivals sell out quick. It's more bang for your buck, obviously.

Just something I wonder about frequently: why does Coachella sell out faster than Bonnaroo? Close approximation to major California cities? Weather? Lack of dirtiness which appeals to casuals?
Can't say it's because Bonnaroo has more tickets to sell since Coachella just sold out two weekends so fast.

Coachella sells out quickly because on the west coast it is the cool thing to do. People in Arizona and California who regularly have no more than an average appreciation for live music all want to go to Coachella. It is a a scene in a way more than any other festival is. Hell just look at the Hollywood gossip magazines the week after Coach. I guarantee the majority of them will have pictures of some sweaty celebrity with a $700 pair of shoes watching The Black Keys.
Ya Coachella is about 2 hours from both LA and San Diego. Also there are 100s of hotels and resorts within 20 miles of Indio so that gets the people in that do not like to camp and be dirty. I have been to both and they have very different crowds.
Usually Ashley Capps and Bonnaroo tweets out something like "better get your tickets soon, GA is close to selling out" a few days before they actually sell out.
Keep your eyes out for that and you should be good.

Very interesting. Thanks for your response. I live in the east and have only ever visited California, so I don't really know what goes on out there in terms of scenes. To be honest, Coachella's lineups usually appeal way more to my personal taste than Bonnaroo's do. However, I'll take Bonnaroo's late nights, campings, and people atmosphere over Coachella's lineups any day. From the way you talk, it seems like Bonnaroo draws in way more actual music lovers than Coachella does. And that's the kind of people I want to be around. I would like to go to Coachella one year just to see what it is like, though.
The thing you have to consider with Bonnaroo vs. Coachella ticket sales is that Coach is 2 hours from Los Angeles, a city with close to a 10 mil population. It's really easy for a lot of people to go to Coachella. Closest metro area to 'roo is Nashville (right?) which I believe has a population around 500k. So you have a lot less locals getting tickets on the on-sale date, because they don't have to plan as much.
I do think roo will sell out this year, however, and quicker than last year. But not Coachella fast.
See- Now I'm stressing.. I would be so absolutely heart broken if they sold out before my taxes came back.. Ugh :/
Have you filed already? Even if it does, you can always find one secondhand.
My thoughts exactly. It's not like buying tickets for a show capped at 1,000 capacity. If it does sell out quick, it's due to scalpers who are just trying to resell them, IMO.

If you e-filed, you can check when you will get your return online. Just go to irs.gov and type in where's my refund in the search bar. If you did e-file, it should be coming pretty soon, so you shouldn't have to worry about tickets selling out unless I am way off on my guess of when it will sell out.

Yea they seem to be moving pretty quick this year. I had to mail mine in and already got it direct deposited about a week before they said it would be there.
