Eh I know alot of people not coming due to the EDM. Most havent heard of sbtrkt or fly lo and don't like Skrillex. I'm pretty sure if you added mau5, nectar, or pretty lights. It would not hurt sells. Daft punk would sell it out. Either way at this point I don't really care about your argument.
Hah, so start an argument, then decide you don't care for it once you're proven to be wrong.

I really think that there are very few people with this viewpoint. Although "you know people" who are saying these things, saying that adding more EDM would sell more tickets is moronic. No EDM artist would sell more tickets for the fest more than Skrillex and he's already on there.
Skrillex and Deadmau5/Pretty Lights/Bassnectar have a HUGE overlap in terms of fanbase. So saying adding Deadmau5 would sell out the fest is just silly. Even if you know a few kids who like Mau5 or PL but not Skrillex, I would say the overwhelming majority love all of them.
A funny thing is though, if I ask all of my friends who in 2011 went for their first time, they all say they are not interested in this year's lineup and probably won't go.
BUT if I ask anyone who for their first time went in 2009 or 2010, they either already got their ticket or really want to go.
Interesting observation. I'm a 2010 first timer and I already purchased my ticket. Between the Flaming Lips, Les Claypool, GWAR, Avett Brothers, Calexico, it just seemed retarded not to go.
2011, meh...There were some bands that I wanted to see but not enough to make it seem worth the investment.
2012 GOOD GOD MAN!! I've never seen Phish, Radiohead (either cost prohibitive or sold the fck out) or Alice Cooper but I've always wanted to and here they are in one ticket! On top of alot of other seriously talented and awesome bands, GTFO I'm sold!
For all the hardcore EDM fans who don't like Skrillex, there appears to be two casual EDM fans who do. It's strange - I don't know how you could prefer Skrillex over The Chemical Brothers or Underworld or a lot of the other EDM acts out there, but it's true. The guy sells tickets right now. That's not debatable.

All I am saying is more big name EDM acts would help sell out the festival faster. I still think it is going to sell out. FASTER FASTER. You guys are quacking dense and just want to biznatch.

I'm usually supportive of you flanzo, like that time I taught you how to ride a two wheeler, or coached your little league baseball teams, or tutored you in algebra, but I don't think "nicthedick85" is so far off here. Ultra/Coach both sold out super quick, EDC is taking their massive fests on the road, and last year Bonnaroo's biggest late nights were Girl Talk/Bassnectar/Pretty Lights.

I tend to agree. EDM seems to be the easiest way to get the casuals to go to a festival. It's also the easiest way of making me feel old.
In looking over the headliners, all of which are great and have their appeal, I'm struck that none of them are what can be called "at the top of their game." In Bonnaroos gone by, have any headliners been at the peak of their popularity, or was it more of an historic appeal?
Side note about Skrillex: I was driving my wasted friend home last night and I decided to put on some Skrillex to show him what he is going to experience this summer at Roo and he didn't know how to take it. He said "I feel like the Decepticons are coming to get me" and I about peed myself.
What year was Radiohead "at the top of their game" for most people?
Could be argued that Arcade Fire last year was "at the top of their game".
OK Computer - Kid A feels like their peak to me. Arcade Fire felt like they peaked a year or two before appearing at 'Roo, but these are subjective. There're probably trade publications that measure a group's popularity by sales pretty accurately. Not that it makes much difference. KoL, yeah, I think they hit 'Roo at their peak, but where are they now?

Arcade Fire may have been the closest.
But the whole question of "peak" in terms of artistic output is really difficult to gauge. A lot of us put value on the early stuff (for many artists) that we disregard later peaks brought upon by leaps in technology, a lot of practice, better instruments, collaboration with new producers, new influences.

Yeah. Long-lived groups probably have the broadest appeal, with peak popularity level in the early side of midrange of their existence.
Sorry I have to chime into the EDM discussion. EDM is fine, it's fun but who the hell wants to listen to it at 3 in the afternoon?
IMHO the point of Roo, what makes it a unique experience is that there is almost every kind of music (although I'm still waiting for the opera tent).
This is my 5th Roo and lineup wise last year was the worst for us, to the point of considering not going this year if the lineup was "the same" this year. This line up has us onboard.

for all these people saying they don't like skrillex and blah blah, he's on the bill. so whether you like it or not he will be there; don't like it? don't watch him, simple as that. no need to argue people.
No one wants to listen to it at 2-3pm. Thanks for chiming!
Why not? I listen to EDM when I get up, I listen to it on my lunch break, on the ride home after work, in the gym, while Im making dinner, when Im trying to go to bed...its not a gimicky thing that involves light shows and heavy bass to me. Its my first love, where I finally found myself in music. Some people truely enjoy EDM to all other forms of music. I dont see why this is a shocker that someone would like to hear EDM at 2-3 pm

I hate bringing old posts back up, but I was walking around my site with some multi-millionaire while he told me everything I did wrong over the past 4 months. Get ready for the rage, beetches.
EDC is going to NY, which isn't exactly like throwing an EDM festival in the middle of nowhere and having people flock to it. You could sell out anything in NYC, except for a Mets game.
And I'd say Lil Wayne had a bigger crowd than any other late night, at least at the start of his set (although GirlTalk was ridiculous for a tent). Lil Wayne sold out Bonnaroo!? Score one for the thug arts!!
Ultra is an EDM festival just like EDC, I don't think it's really that fair to compare them to a festival like Bonnaroo when trying to make a point about EDM selling out Bonnaroo. Coachella sold out fast last year also, and it's more because it's the "cool" festival for all the little skinny jean hipsters spending Daddy's money to attend.
Oh, and I got a 770 on my math SAT, so TUTOR THIS! *hip thrust*
