We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Hi Everyone! So this weekend, I did some more RooTus, and took inventory of what I have left to do in order to get them out to their recipients before Roo time. In the interest of getting them out to those who want them - I am asking that if anyone wants a Rootu - from me - sent to them before Roo - I need your order/request by THIS wednesday - May 23. First come, first serve, and I will cut off the orders if we reach a maximum... I have a day job, and a life, so I'm almost at capacity!
Also - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Don't be afraid to make your own Rootu!!! There have been some MAGICAL creations in here (Scrog, Im looking at you) and anyone can do this! I am insanely happy to help out with anyone who just needs advice - post in here or PM me and I can help get you from start to finish! Be creative! Use plastic bags a la the Scrogster! Recycle and Cut up an old sheet or old t-shirts! The possibilities are ENDLESS!
All you need from the craft store (JoAnns, Hancock, Hobby Lobby) is your waist size length of 3/4-1 inch non-roll elastic - you can buy it by the yard, so you dont need to get a whole roll. Then whatever material you want, in 3-6 inch wide, and 24-36 inch long strips. (if you want tulle, they make 25 yard long, 6 inch wide rolls that run $3-5 dollars each in billjions of colors at hobby lobby, bout 4-6 rolls per tutu). Then just tie them on the elastic, or do a simple slipknot over the elastic as seen here (start at pic4, www.skiptomylou.org/2011/11/01/no-sew-tutu-tutorial/) BOOM! ROOTU!
AGAIN, mega-thanks to everyone who's indulged this crazy idea - Im SO SUPER EXCITED to see the amazing Rootus at brunch and all around the Farm, for my favorite 4 days of the year. <3 you guys all so hard!!!!!

Katbur2 - I cut the fabric for your Izod Tu last night - Im gonna string it together this evening and hopefully get the fabric cut for your WristTus. Thank you so much for being patient with me!
Got together with the recipients of these yesterday. I don't think they really realize what's coming.

Mayo! I got our RooTus today and they are fabulous! We will take pics once Dave gets home. Quick question, I cannot measure myself (I thought the measurements sounded off when I sent them) and it's pretty big so is there a simple way to take a few inches out without compromising the rootu?
And also, YES! there is a simple way to make that thing tinier (i thought you told me a high number, miss skinny!) - so - see how the tulle is looped around the elastic? You can basically stretch the elastic, and push the tulle loops down in one direction - essentially just "exposing" the extra elastic. Then you can either A) tie it in a knot and cut the extra loop off (then you'd have to make that spot in the back or side where you wouldnt see the leftover knot, not my preferred method) OR B) pinch the exposed elastic together, and if you are hesitant to bust out a needle and thread, safety pin it with 3 or 4 pins, and then just tuck the leftover elastic loop under the tulle. or fold it over, loosen the tulle loops, and pull them over the fold. .... Maybe I can make a picture.

That sounds easy enough! I suppose I'll safety pin it to hold it together while I stitch it and maybe leave a pin in it just to be sure. Thanks so much!

LOL - THanks Katbur! I was going to be an architect in a former life, and then a mathematician, and then an engineer, and finally a chemist... So I guess you can say my right-creative and my left-analytical brain are bff. I see how stuff is put together. ;D

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!! If you can count my successes by the amount of subjects I "failed" at, then I'm WAY successful. Yes. Only for one semester. I AM Jeremy Piven in PCU.

I made it 5 and a half semesters before saying eff it right before spring break. I did get a nice ego boost when my professor told me she was pissed at me for quitting because I had the best project going in class.
^^I knew I liked you the two of you for a reason. I was to be an architect, but some how I ended up as a nurse. I am still confused on how that happened.
Mayo you are correct, if I can throw a Rootu together with recycled plastic bags from Walmart, anybody can make a Rootu. So do not let that stop you, if you want a Rootu, it really is easy to do. Once I had my supplies, it took me a couple of hours to make mine.
Can not wait to see the fluffiness at Brunch this year!

I make tutus for myself and my kids all the time. Just an idea, if anyone is making one- I do the same thing that Mayo does, but I don't use elastic. I like to use ribbon and TIE my tutu on. I don't have to sew or pin anything and if I gain or lose weight it's always adjustable!
=) I'm really glad I found this thread. I will be bringing a tutu to Roo for sure.

YES!!! Im glad you found this thread too CE! And a ribbon is a stellar idea! If you're making your own RooTu and dont' want to use needle/thread/glue/pins - DEFINITELY just string em up on ribbon! I sew ribbons to the ends of elastic for the tutus I make for little girls - then they can grow into them a little bit :)I suppose the same can be said for adults? And our Spicy-Pie-Jalepeno-Corndog-Pratters-BBQ-SAMOSA eatin' selves? ;D
omg, I just remembered samosas. I. Can. Not. WAIT. for the Samosas.

First... MAYO... I BOW to THEE!! You are the godess of Tu's. Your work is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My beloved Quacker is currently cutting about 70 yds of tull for me because we cant get rolls locally and the cutting = back ouch. (And there is a lot of swearing from the other room )
Will be posting some QSAROO Tu's. These are for roosters that are not able to order the amazing Mayo Tu's or make their own, yet would like a Tu for Roo. A little (very simple ) gift from QSAROO. (Lower expectations from what Mayo is doing!)
From reading all above - they will be one size fits many -- the 36" elastic will be safety pinned so they can be skinnied or stretched. Will do some long, some short - long can be trimmed. Add your own embellishments.
Updated: Available for adoption
DO No Harm! - Red and black, knee length - Adopted
Raspberry Cream (raspberry/cream ;D)
Dream Cloud (Blue/White)
The Electric Slide (Purple/Pink/Yellow) - Tentatively Adopted

Working on short Tu's next..
Took all the pics down - good stuff in the works..
Awe, that's incredibly nice of you... but I'm not even sure I'm going to make it to Roo this year and I would rather someone who knows they're going to receive it!!
But THANK YOU for the bottom of my electric slide lovin heart.

I've decided I need a Do No Harm themed RooTu, but I don't have the time nor creative abilities to make it happen. I'm thinking the black and red one that Fawn has up for adoption might be the perfect backdrop for red and white DNH pins. If it isn't spoken for, I'd be proud to flaunt it at Roo.

I think that's the perfect idea Sarah. It's yours. PM your address.
