Learned it all from watching you mom. ;D
Updated the original adoption post. Last two long ones added. Will work on some short ones soon as I can.
Gorgeous Bunny!!!! Your such a skinny mini that probably weighs more than you! ;D
Mayo will be much better at explaining this. Lay your Tu flat as you can with the tulle extended out in a circle flat as you can.
Take a ruler, tape measure, your cat, kitchen utensil, - whatever - and place it on the top of the band. Lets say we are using a soup ladle. Put the top of the handle on the edge of the band. Cut the tull at the bottom edge of the scoop all the way around.
When done, fold the Tu in half, straighten the tull, and measure again with your ladle and make final tweaks. This will give you an even Tu all the way around if that's what you want.
If you have a round quilting cutter that works the best. If not scissors, steak knives, exacto knives, and chewing are all okay. ;D
I wanted a fairy Tu so lengths on mine are all different. ( And tull = No for me) Will try to post tomorrow.
Must get a lesson from Mayo on how she adds those amazing embellisments. The chesire cat CKS TU. Awe struck!!
Oh man, I just had a grand idea for you gals to add some sparkle... I have no idea if they make spray adhesive glitter but if they do, you could cover it all over with sparkles!! That would be AMAZING.

You can't tell from the picture, but the red has glitter already on it. It is all over my house now. It was pricer than the plain, but worth it I think. I only bought the red, but they had it in quite a few colors. It is sticky-ish and I want the entire Roo-Tu made of it.
I bought all of my supplies tonight. Just wanted to note that my local Hobby Lobby had tulle rolls 50% off right now. Dont know if this applies everywhere, but thought it best to advise yall. Stay tuned for pics...sometime.

Ah! I thought I saw some sparkle!! It's some BS that sparkles are extra... if anything they should be FREE!! Your RooTu turned out great!!
Bunny - Fawn has it right! Do exactly what she says to get the tulle about the right lengths all the way around. And - That RooTU IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the colors!!!
Faaaawwwwwnnnn - Your RooTu advice and generosity is spot on madam! As far as embellishments go, Im all about a glue gun. I've also done some extensive research on bow tying. I'm also a craft hoarder, so I have boxes of partially used gemstone packs, half-yards of ribbon, etc. So I've tried to use up anything I have to make things SPaRKLE! Be advised though, hot glue gun glue is indeed - HOT.
Amanduh - YES - they make glitter tulle! It's probably the same stuff Bunny used - they make it in rolls, and it's a little sticky - like it sticks to itself. But it's BEAUTIFUL. I like to use it in every RooTu that I can. BUT for anyone who didnt buy pre-glittered tulle, they DO make spray glitter, just have to find it in the kids crafts section or the paint section of the craft store!
ZTO - YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! you found the magic 50% off rolls That deal IS national to my knowledge, and you can find the current deals for Hobby Lobby (best selection of tulle rolls imo) at their website. They update it weekly. So if anyone is out there, thinking they want to do this - GET THEE TO THE HL!
Im so proud of all my RooTu makers! ;D Im gonna post more pics of more RooTus this evening.

OK! Decided. I have a half day of work today and no specific plans this afternoon.. I AM ROOTUING! I have read most if not all of the rootu talk on here and the GFT, etc., bso I hope that I am ok! I am kinda scared to shop.. I don't even know where to shop! I don't think there are Hpbby Lobbys up here.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
^ Bonz, y'all still have Michael's and JoAnn Fabrics, right? Go there. Michael's is bigger & ALWAYS has a great selection of everything crafty; JoAnn is usually smaller. I'm going to buy tulle tonight after the gym... we can do RooTu Craft Chat later!

I think there is a Michael's close by ROOTU CHAT WILL HAPPEN! I took tonight off from work too! I just wish that I had someone to shop with me! Moral support for color shopping!!

Is anyone making more than one? Now that my first one is almost finished I have an idea for another. My daughter thinks I've lost my mind...but that shouldn't be a news flash by now.
And Fawn...my bag disintegrated, so to speak...not sure what I am bringing. Hopefully this year you will know me and be able to recognize me without it.
BONZ - ime, I have not found rolls of tulle at Michaels. CALL THEM before you go - you should ask for "25yard long rolls of 6'' wide tulle" and see if they have it beforehand.
Joanns will have it in the wedding section in rolls, but no glitter, and not any "wacky" colors. If you have to go to Joanns, you can get some rolls, but will need to find the tulle in the fabric bolt section if you want anything outside of black, red, pale yellow, pale blue, tiffany blue, pale pink, hot pink, purple, white or ivory. Depending on how much you get in rolls, you will need about 2-4 yards of your wacky color from the bolt section.
A typical Rootu, with strips cut at 36inches long (for a 18inch long skirt) takes about 6 rolls.
Hope that helps!!!! <3
AND - Holls - what kinda Michaels do you have up there in C-town?! Our michaels here are like kids crafting. and our Joanns are like the Costco of crafts. total opposite. I LOVE Joanns. Hobby Lobby is my crack, and Joanns is my methadone. Michaels is just a cig and a stick of gum at the rehab center.

Bonz.. The Micheals near me - NO cloth or tulle - just yarn. BOO!! So i went to Joanne's. They do not carry rolls - just yards - which you have to cut - but if just doing one it does not take too long.
Mayo - I have a room full of what you described. My "Create" room. I shall be digging in the boxes and updating some pictures. My glue gun is well worn.
Thanks for the heads up guys! There's a Joanne's not too far away that I shall trek to! Sad that the options won't be there, but at least I will be able to find tulle! So if I buy in yards, I will need.. 150 yards? Seems like an absurd number!

Oh shug, our Hobby Lobbys are like WallyWorld SuperCenters: so ginormous you almost need a tour guide to find anything! Michaels is where I go for beads (HL has a good selection too, but less variety); I've never shopped for tulle. Like, ever. Anywhere! Today will be the first time for that. ***FORTUNATELY*** the Michael's is 1 block from my doctor's office, so it's a lunch-time double-whammy mission!
Mayo, if I can't find the colors I reeeeeeeeeally want, I might make a run to the ATL this weekend. This way I can work on the RooTu while we're outta town next weekend...drinking & celebrating & 'Tu making, oh my! ;D

AT Joanne's they do have good choices on tull - but be prepared to PAY for the really pretty stuff. The larger net 'tulle' as around $1 a yard, decent baseline tull - 1.50 ish, the nice stuff - anywhere from 3-6 a yd.
Yds depends on how wide you cut your strips. I am working with 4-5 inch strips and it takes approx 90 strips at that width to fill a 36" non roll 3/4" elastic. So if buying by the bolt yard - thats about 10yds. If you want it reallly full - bump up the yardage and cut 6" strips. Lets say you are doing a three color tu.. buy 4-5 yards of two colors of the cheap material, and 1-2 yds of the really good stuff, then find that glitter spray for the cheaper material.
Cutting the strips - The bolt tulle will be foled in half. Leave it folded. We used the dining room table and a yard stick. Take the end of the folded tull and line it up with your yard stick. Cut at one yard so you have a folded 1 yd of tulle. (Make sure to put a book on the end of tulle to keep it in place when you cut.
Repeat so you have 5 2 layer (because of the fold) pieces stacked up. Now cut again lengthwise in 4, 5, 6, inch strips as you like.
I"m going back to Joanne's at lunch. I ll put pictures up later on how to suffer through cutting bolt tulle. : )

Another 'Nooga girl!!
My second home is at the Hobby Lobby in Hixson. I KNOW they have the rolls of tulle at that one... and I believe they're pretty cheap (especially since they're 50% off right now!!). I'm sure the one over at Hamilton Place has them too... just another option.
