This board, along with every other major music festival message board, is just about as chock full of idiots as the general public.
I hate saying anything that could be construed as kindness towards @phi, but.... I'd say all the board members in Coachella attendence were not one of those idiots. It is fair to say that of the other 89,990 people that were at the Festival... a lot of them were big idiots from the general public.

Larry Farnsworth It is true. Proven by the "Check In Stations" and linking your wristband to the internet. I guess I just dont want to admit that technology is taking over the concert/festival goer scene nowadays. I never been to coachella. But i can imagine that its a more youthful event then Bonnaroo therefore attributing to more cell phones and less lighters. I feel old
Yeah, that was awesome. The production of the whole festival completly blows Bonnaroo out of the water, with the exception of the shuttles, which were an abortion. Blur was fantastic, other highlights were Kurt Vile, Nick Cave, SMD, James Blake and Prydz. The Sahara and Yuma tents were stellar. Prydz in the Sahara was particularly good cause it seemed like all the idiots were off watching WuTang or RHCP. Missed ShoutingMatches and Cloud Nothings because of shuttle malarky. It took 2.5 hours to get in Friday (driver got so lost the passengers had to find someone who spoke Spanish to read the map to him) then only 40 minutes Saturday, then 1.5 hours Sunday. Saturday night it took us 2 hours toget home cause the shuttle just didn't show up. I also have sand in every orfice of my body.
What shuttle line did you take? I did the JW Marriott shuttle and never had to wait to get on the shuttle. There were always 4-5 shuttles right behind it ready to go. The longest I had to wait in a shuttle before we left was 5 minutes. The shuttles took about 30 minutes to get to my location, which was about 15-20 miles from the venue.
I like the positivie reviews of Vampire Weekend. I'm a big fan and looking forward to their new release.
Did you watch their stream on Sunday? I have liked their singles but have never really listened to their albums. I got converted quick-like after watching that show.

Nah, I wish I did. Was sorta busy this weekend and didn't get to catch much of the streams. They are replaying them? Or archiving them or anything?
I've always enjoyed VW but the two new singles I heard a few weeks ago really got me excited for the new album. Looking forward to hearing more.

I was light blue (agua caliente). I'm sure there was just an element of bad luck, but I'm still pretty steamed about missing Shouting Matches.
I'm certainly not a festival rookie. I've been to Bonnaroo more times than you have (probably) and have been going to fests of all sizes and shapes for probably 14 years or so. I was "going in and out" all day at Coachella because there was just so much to see. In a lot of cases, I don't mind catching lots of half sets.
Also, I probably took hundreds of pictures on my phone at Coachella. Because, you know, there were lots of awesome visuals that I wanted to capture and be able to live over again.
But please, keep offering your uninformed opinions.
I have been to many festivals and I very much enjoyed be able to pop in and out of sets all day and catching lots of acts. I also took some pictures and videos of many of the acts I saw on my phone.
I'm not referring to people who simply catch half sets/record videos. I take plenty of pictures (though I avoid videos since I am already tall and blocking people) and bounce from set to set all of the time. I'm talking about people who push their way to the front (I don't mean make their way through open space, I mean legitimately push) just to record a song and then leave. There was a girl in front of me for the Lumineers when I was around 5 or 6 rows back who pushed her way up there. She then went on to talk about how she was more excited for them than any other band that day. She recorded Ho Hey then left. It was their 4th song.
I know Roo's crowd is not some perfect crowd. I understand that. I also know that my experiences may have just been me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However I went to Coachella weekend 2, Firefly, and Bonnaroo last year and I have never had so many sets in which I was surrounded by obnoxious, uninterested people as I did this year at Coachella. It really killed the vibe on a lot of sets that I was super excited to see.

Just playing devil's advocate here but.....How did you know she left? Like did you watch her walk to a different show? Or is it possible she took a video and then moved back to where she originally was (possibly by friends or her group) and watched the rest of the show back there?
Either way, I can't stand people pushing through a crowd.

I really hope the HTDA show translated well over the live the feed, because it was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. I agree with what others have said about the chatting during shows. It was pretty bad at times. Unless you were standing near speakers, or had a great spot, the talking could get obnoxious. The good thing was that it was always easy to get a good spot for a show you liked. Most shows didn't get full until that artist started or a little after. I had great spots for HTDA, TNGHT, Eric Prydz, I was in the pit for both Hot Chip and The Postal Service, etc. The Shouting Matches' sound check was probably the worst thing about the weekend when it came to seeing shows. A 40-minute sound check is a lot to put a festival crowd through. They did get it together and put on a very solid show.
I made it into the Yuma first thing Friday, because I knew the lines would be too long to see anyone I wanted to without missing other acts. I was right.
The production at Coachella is first class. Stages, screens and art installations were all excellent. The short set times made the days go by faster, and a lot of bands (especially the ones who hadn't played Coachella before) seemed annoyed by it. I was. Coachella only felt crowded when you were out walking around, and then it felt very crowded. The benefit of camping at Coachella is that it usually takes the people in hotels a couple hours past the gates opening to make it in. Early shows were sparse, which was great for shows like The Shouting Matches and Robert DeLong.
I enjoyed the time I spent in the Sahara. Eric Prydz was incredible and Birdy Nam Nam was great. There were definitely people who spent the majority of their time in that tent (some of the people camping around me fell into that category), who missed a lot of great stuff, but if you avoided the Sahara entirely, you also missed some good shows. I thought the Sahara setup was pretty impressive, but I don't go to EDM shows very often or any EDM festivals.
Coachella's guide they hand you at the gates sucks.
And just for the heck of it.. There are many differences and similarities between Coachella and Bonnaroo. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other.

I thought Jessie Ware was pretty lousy. Her, Moby, and TNGHT were all big disappointments for me.
Damn that Prydz show was really good. Because of the friends I was with I saw more EDM this weekend that I normally would have/wanted to, but even after sitting through a few too many sets of yo-yo builds and drops in the Sahara I enjoyed every second of Prydz. He built a complete set and worked the crowd up slowly. I think the first half or so was all mid-temp instrumental, then dropped a surprisingly-still-appealing Midnight City remix and then just went into over drive. When he closed with Everyday people were in a complete frenzy. That plus the fact that it looked like the trees were about to get ripped out of the ground outside the tent made the whole thing perfect.

I can see why TNGHT could have been disappointing. I had a pretty good idea of what their live show was going to be like going into it. I just love getting groovy to their music and doing it with them there was a great experience for me, plus the Daft Punk trailer that preceded their set, man, just a blast for me.
EDIT: And I second everything you said about the Prydz set. oh my god.

Dog Blood ended right before TNGHT (also pretty decent) and they started playing the new Daft Punk over the load speaker in the Sahara. Me and my buddy noticed it and were talking about it while sorta just standing around. A minute or two after it ended some of the bros next to us screamed "they just played Daft Punk before the TNGHT show! they might be there!" and took off sprinting for the Gobi.

I was under the impression that the Daft Punk trailer was on every screen at the same time. Did it not show at the Sahara tent?
. Honestly, the worst issue I had was people smoking. Holy hell, why the f*ck do people still smoke? Like I get it if you're old and f*ck it, can't stop now, but the rest of you? Have some goddanged self-control and stop blowing smoke in my face.

No I heard it at the main stage while walking to TNGHT then once at TNGHT heard it at Majove before Infected Mushroom

There were probably 17 people on chat watching and if I recall it was unanimous that VW killed it. And many of us were actually surprised at how good they were.

Oh dude, that HDTA show translated QUITE well over the live feed. I was in awe from my chair at home and I had never really heard of them before, I will make sure and catch them ASAP. Sounds like you pretty much had the same schedule I would have had if I had gone this year, glad you had a good one! I think comparing the two festivals is sort of like comparing two similar countries together, one that is rich in both music and design (Coachella) to one that is rich in both music and experiences (Bonnaroo). Clearly Coachella has much better stages/lighting/art/scenery but clearly Bonnaroo takes the musical cake with all the collaborations and late night/longer sets. As far as festival goers, I've found people to be equally friendly and neighborly at both. I think I will always be slightly biased toward Coachella though because that's what I grew up on, them feels knowmsayin?
How in the heck is it possible that i cannot find out the second weekend lineup? does anyone know who is playing the second weekend and could they post a day by day lineup? Their own website does not seem to have this info available!
pollstar has the lineup for the first weekend for the second weekend. No wonder tickets are selling so cheap noone knows who is going to be there.

"The festival, which typically draws 20 percent of its audience from San Diego County, will run April 12-14 and April 19-21, with the same lineup appearing both weekends. The Stone Roses will headline on April 12 and April 19, while Phoenix will headline April 13 and April 20 and Red Hot Chili Peppers headline April 14 and April 21. (See the bottom of this article for the complete, day-by-day lineup.)
Other major acts set to appear include -- on April 12 and 19 -- Blur, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse and Lou Reed (who, at 70, joins Detroit troubadour Rodriguez as this year's oldest Coachella performer).
The April 13 and April 20 festival lineup also features the XX (which performed here last year at SOMA), the reunited Postal Service, Iceland's Sigur Ros, New Order, Hot Chip, Grizzly Bear and The 2 Bears.
Joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers, figuratively, not literally, on April 14 and April 21 will be Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (who appears likely to perform at a yet to be disclosed San Diego venue between the two Coachella weekends), Vampire Weekend, Social Distortion and Wu-Tang Clan.
In lieu of a Smiths' reunion, former Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr will perform with his new band April 12 and April 19."
How on earth do they make money booking the same lineup for two weekends? That just doesnt make any sense at all. i wish someone could explain this to me.

^It's because tickets to Coachella sell out in a matter of minutes so they decided to do the same exact festival two weekends in a row starting last year in hopes that more people could catch the festival. And to make a ton more money.
