I'm all in on this, especially since I can walk with minimal effort to Piedmont. I didn't go last year because I had seen all of the acts within a few months and had football tickets anyhow.
This is great, an epic fest one weekend, and Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull) performing Thick As A Brick I & II in completion the next week end at the "Come on back boy" Performing Arts Center (which also stands in as the CDC in The Walking Dead)! So excited!
Hell, the last Music Midtown I saw about ten years ago was the first time I ever went to a Tull show. So happy :-)

Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels that are close by? We stayed at the Renaissance a few years ago for the Dave and Allman Bros. show. Are there any places that are closer and possibly a little bit cheaper?
I think they did a great job with the lineup. I am looking forward to seeing who the other 3 acts are going to be.
Hey flamingo - I dont have hotels off the top of my head, but i'll be looking into it for you out-of-townies. I'll also be keeping my eye out for any hotel coupons or deals. Any hotel that's on a marta line will be good too, as you can marta to about 2 blocks from the park, then follow the masses to the show.

I guess I'm the only one disappointed in this festival. I was hoping for jack white, but I also think it was lazy booking. I mean 3 top names from deluna and t.i and Luda live in atl so it wasn't like they had to try hard to book them. Averts and girl talk play every festival coming and going. This lineup just seems boring
I'm in my best friend's wedding on the 22nd. Perhaps I should rally for a reschedule of her special day?!
I literally live within a 5-7 minute walk from Piedmont Park, just down Monroe. I had a blast stumbling to and from the festival last year.
I have to miss DeLuna AND M.M. The booking gods are not favoring me right now. And I'm being selfish and not favoring my best friend for planning her wedding around two awesome music festivals.

You're not the only one.
Other than PJ nothing worth traveling to see imo. Everything else tours all the time and has been seen by everyone before.
I really wanted a 3rd stage to add the possibility of a choice of music. There is always exactly 1 band playing. Never a choice. Just 50,000 people watching a band, then moving en masse over to a different stage to have 50,000 people watch the next band. I live in Atlanta, so I'm sure I'll still end up going, but I'm not going to make a big effort. I'm dying to see what Counterpoint comes out with.

I think the DeLuna promoters must be disappointed. They've never sold out their festival. And now with the same lineup on the same weekend, and the more expensive ticket, I just don't see it selling out this year. Although, I read a rumor that Pearl Jam was only playing two North American shows this year. Maybe that will help both festivals sell out.

I know, poor Deluna. After two way undersold years, they finally get a good lineup....then most of their big names repeat at a cheaper festival in a more easily accessible city. Hopefully they sold a lot of tickets before Music Midtown announced. Pearl Jam alone should guarantee good sales, but this should take a chunk.

I feel like the Deluna lineup is in a different vein than the last two years, but after Linkin Park (2011's top bill) canceled last year, I'm honestly surprised they're still here.

I can't believe DeLuna is still going. They lost so much money last year. That fest was more undersold than 1st Hangout.
The only reason it even did as good as it did was because they gave away a 3-day bracelet with every paid weekend ticket.
DeLuna was a good time the past two years primarily because you can get in the water.

I absolutely agree. They were insanely undersold last year. I was concerned they wouldn't have rolled enough profit to go into its third year, let alone book a fantastic line up.
HOWEVER. To be fair, if I may. DeLuna DID move their festival weekend up. Music Midtown is hosting their festival the exact same weekend as they did last year. I was talking to someone about this last night and he made a really good point. DeLuna more than likely moved their dates around from October to late September, as not to compete with VooDoo or ACL.
But it was poor planning on their part to book it the same weekend as M.M. They're still trying to establish themselves and I'll note that it is my second favorite festival experience, ever. They'll find their niche. But I don't think it is appropriate to wag a finger at M.M for "taking their line up" or whatever. They're doing exactly what they did last year. DeLuna is the fest who moved too much around and unfortunately may have put themselves in check mate this time.
BUT, it IS a beach fest. So they've got that going for them. Who doesn't want to go to a beach party fest?! MM is cool and all. I mean, I can walk there from my house. But getting to hang around a beach all day in late summer is the jam.

Wagging fingers? Sorry I didn't mean to wag my finger at Music Midtown. I have no problem with Music Midtown having DeLuna's headliners. My post was meant as more of a "oh poor DeLunaFest, you can never catch a break."
While we are talking about dates, Music Midtown actually changed their dates, too. Every Music Midtown I went to was in May and was around the same time as NOLA's Jazzfest 2nd weekend. And usually the lineups were very similar to Jazzfest 2nd weekend. Now it's in September? WTF?
Logistically, it makes sense that the lineups are similar. Bands tour. They are going to head to the next city after they finish their set and Atlanta is relatively close to Pensacola (< 6 hours away).
they probably benefited from having it the same weekend actually. midtown probably booked them first and then they were able to get them to come to deluna the same weekend.

Hmm...I'm gonna wait till the next name drop before I commit to this. The fact that I could bike to Peidmont Park is weighing heavely in favor of going. Tabernacle is just down the road so I can avoid the ticketfucker fees...So much awesome this summer...So limited cash!

Super stoked, some friends and I will be coming from Chattanooga!! Any hotel suggestions that don't cost and arm and a leg will be greatly appreciated.
As soon as Maggie and I have the cash we will be grabbing these tickets as well. Looking toward to seeing you all again even though I won't meet any of you until a month and a half from now lol. Tired mind, strange logic.
