Also, with the release of SFFB Tyler, the Creator has gotten much more popular. Idk if he'll ever be a true headliner but if he plays his cards right in re: branding, marketing, collaborations and his next album is as good as this one...I think we could see him in the same tier as Gambino or Future.

i think the distancing from Odd Future, the losing the @fucktyler handle, doing vice shows instead of adult swim, doing interviews with colbert, he's definitely trying, and in a way that doesn't make me think he's a sellout.

He won't rebrand, but I know how well his show at Panorama went with people who don't even usually fuck with his music. He's one of those: gonna stick around type folks that will naturally become a HL by credibility. Same has applied to MMJ and The Roots though, so we may be talking another 5 years out from now.
to be fair, "Feel It Still" has charted higher than any single from the new Lorde album.
Haven’t heard the song. They are currently wedged in between Demi Levato and Logic at #2 on the pop charts. Don’t know if that’s good/bad.
It's fine. I get why it would chart higher than any other song they've released, but it's nothing special. Reminds me of "Pumped Up Kicks."
Also, given the low quality of the rest of their album I'd guess that this ends up being more of a flash-in-the-pan situation than about-to-be-headliner.

I think he's already rebranded a bit: he lost the @fucktyler handle, and I'd say this last album is considerably less abrasive than previous releases. It seems like he's appealing to a wider audience now.

It kind of reminded me of FTP as well, but aren't they billed in the top 12ish usually just off the success of "Pumped Up Kicks"? Now I guess I don't ever really see PTM being a legit top 3 band, but I could see them preHL the What in a couple album cycles if they have more singles as big as "Feel It Still"

Well he hasn't lost authenticity points so that's still a good luck on him then for the future. His live show was certainly not calmer at Panorama but I of course want more Odd Future in our lives.
Tyler is culturally relevant enough to headline if he puts out another great album. He is underbooked in my opinion. I don’t view his as much smaller than Frank

Tyler is sixth on the Day for Night lineup, where he is behind Justice, Solange, and St Vincent. He played a tent at Bonnaroo last year. He has a ways to go, and I think if he was going to get there he would have already.

Foster has a few other big songs, Helena beat and don't stop come to mind right now. I'd say if Portugal release one more song as big as feel it still they'll be at cage the elephant level popularity or slightly bigger. Don't see them ever really surpassing that though although they deserve it with how good they are as a live band
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

To be fair - so was Solange and St. Vincent (solo) -- and if they were to return to Bonnaroo there's NO way they wouldn't end up on either Which or What. I think (the general mainstream) audiences have an obsession with young MC's; as if that's not been part of the pop and bubble that makes hip hop artists less valuable on the marketplace. You can say that the promoters just don't give a fuck and see it as the way it is, and that "bands" have more to "give" - but people clamor CCW, The Dead, etc. Why can't a rapper be over 40 and rock the crowd?

If Vince Staples keeps putting out albums/collabs like he did this year, he’s the next young hip-hop name I think could make the leap.
I believe this is a correct answer. I said this on reddit when he dropped Summertime 06 and I got read to filth lol but I absolutely think he is on that trajectory. And of the “new age” group of rappers he is far and away one of the best imo

He was on some Kanye shit on his tour this summer.
I'd be suprised if they hadn't been brought up previously in this thread, but Glass Animals.
If there were any justice in the world, Danny Brown.
I just saw Danny early October. I feel like he's sobered up, which can be good, but when he performs songs like "Dip" it's kind of weird. It's just not the same when a 35+ year old is yelling MOLLY, and you can tell he doesn't really feel it.
