These things are hard to predict since artists or bands these days either take their time and let's say bring an album out every 3/4 years or bring out an album/mixtape almost every (half)year, but that was already mentioned above. It's also hard to predict what "the industry" is going to choose or pick as their new favorite and promote the shit out of it where you hear and see them everywhere, I mean The Chainsmokers are a pretty good example for this one, no?
Since hiphop/rap is taking over and is everywhere on the radio nowadays it's easier to predict an artist from that genre than let's say a DJ or some band. The influence of the US on the music industry is massive and if someone is big in the US, then most likely the world will follow (see Post Malone as your most recent example).
These days all it takes to be a headliner is 2 great albums and your settled (or you fall of like Phoenix did for example who grew to quickly..)

In 5 years, most of em will probably go solo or some shit like most of Odd Future did. I mean Kevin Abstract, Bear//Face, Joba, Matt Champion.. I'd see them going solo.

I see this happening but them still coming together for Brockhampton shit. More like Wu Tang than Odd Future.
Especially if they properly break through into the mainstream
I would love to hear a solo Joba album. I heard a solo song by him from before BROCKHAMPTON and it was nowhere near as eccentric as he is in literally every BROCKHAMPTON song he’s in
Edit: just saw like two posts up this same thing with Dua lipa but in all honesty Khalid could get to Weeknd status after a few more albums if they are as good as American Teen

But is he going to put out a few more albums as good as American Team? That’s kinda the point of this thread.

I have no idea, I don’t even like his music, not my style. Just he’s billed so high already and has so many views on his songs. Just see him hitting that status, and isn’t this thread predicting future headliners? So yeah no one really knows if he is gonna put out albums as good or as acclaimed as this one, that’s the whole point right? Guessing from where they stand now.

Same
Greta Van Fleet Billie Eilish
I could see Greta Van Fleet headlining smaller fests like a Shaky in a couple years and after a few more albums.

The Weeknd has released progressively worse albums while getting progressively bigger though.
Greta Van Fleet should work on not sounding like a cheap Zeppelin knock off first.
personally I like them because they sound like Zeppelin, and I feel if they did move away from that ripoff sound they will loose their fan base/ become less appealing. Ripoff or not, it’s whats bringing them attention and getting them big and if that’s what people want to hear from them then I’m sure they’ll continue it.

it's pretty lame to completely copy another band, although I do see the irony in this instance.
Dom and Ameer have a much better shot at going solo than all those others beside Kevin.
I could see Kevin going solo and getting huge though.
Kevin already has a pretty good chunk of solo material. It's solid too imo. But BROCKHAMPTON as an act is obviously doing way better than his solo stuff ever did (+ I highly doubt their set is gonna be as under-attended as Kevin's set was last year).
Bonnaroo '15/'16/'17/'18/'19 - ACL '13/'14/'15/'17/'18 - Fun Fun Fun '14 - SXSW '13/'14/'15 - FPSF '16
2019 Shows: 4/30 - Vampire Weekend 6/28 - Father John Misty & Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 9/6 - Cardi B w/ Teyana Taylor 9/28 - Vulfpeck w/ The Fearless Flyers

Lol Kevin Abstract just tweeted, unprovoked, that he’s never making another solo album.

You really think so? I can't see any chain of events that leads to Kendrick Lamar being on the same level in five years that Jay-Z or Eminem are on right now.
Acts like Lamar and Gambino, two acts I really enjoy, won't be headliners, at least I don't think so. I think they're destined to be second-tier acts who fans appreciate and enjoy, but the general public will never latch on to. Unless they sell out and go super-poppy on a hit single to get that crossoverability.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
