Who, per say, might possibly be playing. I mean, just hypothetically.
Hypothetically speaking, the band I may have heard rumored may or may not have a name that rhymes with "notice."
I'm sure they are one of several great acts to be named and may or may not even be the headliner. Umphrey's is a good possibility and would be a huge get for Thursday night, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Digital Tape Machine instead.
If I had to guess on anyone else, I would only have to assume Michael Franti would be on the bill as well since he is a Hangout Fest staple and hasn't been added to the regular lineup and there are really no spaces for him on the schedule (except mainstage opener on sunder?) unless they move some untz to compete with headliners like last year.

This was more awesome than expected. My first UM show was literally 4 days ago, and I'm super down to see them again. Benny will be fun, and I'm pretty excited for Lotus and Conspirator (and Reptar I suppose).

So much for a lower key preparty. This lineup is better then some days of the festival, for my musical taste. Not sure what my work situation will be, but I'm definitely buying a ticket, if for nothing else then to catch Umphreys. But if I could catch Conspirator and RRE that would be great.
I don't recall if it has sold out before. Given that the festival hasn't sold out yet I'm willing to bet the preparty won't sell out.
But it is a pretty dope Thursday lineup for jam and EDM fans. I could see a bunch of local kids who aren't even attending the festival proper buying tickets. I know I have at least one friend who fits that description who'll be coming with me.
And its only $20 for 3 day ticket holders, so I'm buying mine tomorrow at 11am.
Last year I didnt get down there till late thursday around 6 PM. I wanted to go catch Big Gigantic at 9 and headed to the gate around 7 I believe and it had sold out at that point.
So i guess it can sell out. Especially with this lineup I would recommend getting them earlier as opposed to later just in case.
I'm not a jam band anymore and I've never really cared for electronic music but I still dig this pre-fest. And it looks like they won't be conflicting sets if it goes all day. Reptar saves it for me, but I'm also happy for St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Hayes Carll, Drew Holcomb, Quixotic and Umphrey's and Lotus will be fun.
Bad thing for me is, I had a dream last night that it was Thievery Coorporation, Father John Misty and others.

Last year the preparty had a two stage system: the EDM tent and the inside-the-hangout-but-still-outside stage. I'm thinking this year the EDM will be in the EDM tent, of course, but the other names seem too big to be at the inside-the-hangout stage, Umphrey's in particular. So I wonder where they will put them?
I'm also addressing your conflict concerns, I think there will definitely be conflicts, even though it is going all day. They'll add some more low-tier type bands to fill in the morning early afternoon slots.

Maybe on whatever the Letting Go Stage is called this year?

That would make more sense, but also in past years there hasn't been beach access at the Thursday party. If its laid out like last year, the Letting Go stage, while not on the beach, is in an area that would give attendees access to the beach.
What I would love is if they did have beach access at the preparty. They could use the EDM tent and the secondary beach stage, that would be awesome.
I taped St. Paul and the Broken Bones a few months ago here in town. The guitarist, Browan Lollar (formerly of Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit) is from Florence, Al. Cool Southern soul.

For sheer entertainment value, my wife and I have been following the Hangout Facebook page for a while now. It was interesting to see how this announcement inspired pretty much zero hostility.
