Question - I'm going to Hangout Festival for the first time this year. I keep reading about paying extra for late night shows... will that be happening this year and when do you get the tickets? I know you can already purchase the $20 Thursday tickets, but haven't heard anything about late shows this year.
And why do we have to pay extra??? (Or am I misreading that?)

I haven't heard anything about official late night parties this year. I don't think they had any last year either?
The reason you had to pay more in 2011 was so Hangout could get more money.

Hopefully, they won't do that again this year.... (if it wasn't done last year).

There will no doubt be shows going on at venues outside the Hangout, you should check those out. The festival has to shut down at 11pm per agreement with the city. They had shows inside the actual Hangout bar/restaurant in previous years, but like I said I don't think they had any last year.
I have always driven back to Mobile after the festival ends, so I've never caught a late night show. But what I hear from a lot of people is that possibly the most fun late night action you can find is just partying on the beach or in your condo with your friends. I grew up going to gulf shores all the time, and some of my fondest memories are partying on the beach until the wee hours. Its a really beautiful and special place, and even if you aren't catching music, I guarantee you'll have a phenomenal time hanging out under the stars, watching the dark waves crash up on shore.

They probably aren't going to do late nights at the festival anymore, though I hope I'm wrong. Maybe they'll do something inside the Hangout afterwards, but I doubt it, because it would only hold 1/300 of the festival and that could lead to problems for people who still want to rage.

Greetings hackers, peaceful compadres, and inteligent souls alike
I was hoping for a little help, you see I am attending the fest this year(again) and Im gonna need a little advice/help. First and foremost may I thank all people that will not be video taping the entire show on thier iphone and screw the people that act like it is the most ridiculous thing in the world for me to have stepped on two inches of thier 200 square foot sheet or blanket on accident in a crowd of 30,000. Now, my first question regards info on lodging: know of any frugal opportunities or availabilities? Second and most importantly because I will sleep in my car if life demands, I have a few schedeule conflictions: Moon Taxi vs. Galactic, Roots vs Holy Ghost!, and how is Passion pit, ellie goulding, and baaur live? Thank you so much and I would love to return the favor to anyone. I attended in 11' and have been to three other festivals and seen over 130 bands(a rookie to some I know). one last subtle question...are the cops and security as they were in 2011, better or worse will do(what was it like in 12)?
Moon Taxi vs. Galactic is a tough conflict. I am going to do Moon Taxi though because I just saw Galactic & friends destroy a late night set at Wanee. And I suspect that Galactic's hangout set will be mild in comparison and be similar to the galactic shows that have been happening the past 2 years or so. I'm gonna catch the first 10 minutes or so of Holy Ghost! on the way from Gov't Mule to The Roots. I've never seen Passion pit, ellie goulding, or Baaur. The cops and security were just as bad if not worse last year as it was in 2011.

Before I saw Passion Pit at Buku a month or so back I'd heard their live show was NOT good, but the show I caught was awesome. Super high energy power synth pop. New Order is one of my favorite bands of all time, so these modern bands that have a similar synth pop sound (passion pit, cut/copy etc) are perfect for me. Passion Pit fell in the "would definitely see again" category for me.
I haven't seen Baueer (sp?) but I caught his set streaming from Coachella. It looked like fun, less douchey than I thought it would be, but not as masterfully executed as say a Diplo set. I will probably try some of his set out at Hangout because I don't think anything else is going on during that time.

whoever you heard about passion pit from is dead wrong, I have seen them four times now and they are one of the best live bands with how well they perform live and how much Michael moves around. will never get tired of hearing them.

agreed, that was definitely my experience. awesome show, great playing, and the whole band was really high energy, I loved it.
I saw Moon Taxi at Bonnaroo last year and it was one of the best performances of the weekend, imo. And I had never even heard of Moon Taxi before that... I highly recommend them.
Ellie Goulding has two great albums, so I plan on checking her out, as well.

so much praise for Moon Taxi. I was not impressed when I saw them open for UM this past NYE. They sounded like an average bar jamband with a marginally talented guitarist with typical jamband vocal stylings. Furthermore, all the jams were completely guitar-peak driven, no real variety.
But, I'm always willing to give a band another shot. Can anyone recommend any live recordings on archive.org or elsewhere to check out?
Moon Taxi is good but Galactic will be on the beach. I will definitely be there early Sunday. Ideally, for me,start with Zion I, then Best Coast, Grouplove, Galactic, some Porter Robinson, moe., some Aoki, Trey! Would love to see Mr. Wonder, but gotta go home.
There may be some more adds coming. Anyone else heard anything about that?
I haven't heard anything about this, but the lack of Franti on the lineup still makes me think something is coming. Not that I care for the guy, but a Hangout Fest lineup without him just doesn't seem right. The only gaps I see on the schedule is the opening act on the Hangout Stage on Sunday. Aside from that, maybe they could add/move some of the EDM to compete with headliners like last year. That would make sense even if for crowd control alone.
I finally got an email yesterday about Black Friday tickets...it looks like they will be available for pickup sometime between 5/7-10. You will also be given an option to purchase a $20 kickoff party ticket on site unless you choose to do it online before then. Good way to avoid the online processing fees.

I did not get this e-mail, so thanks for relaying this info. Glad I didn't stop by there on the way to/from wanee for nothing because I thought they told us they'd be available a month before the festival.

I called yesterday and was told that they're going to let people pick up other people's tickets as long as they have a copy of their driver's license. That'll help save some people a trip down.
Hi. If you would like an email for the purchase of a Thursday kick off ticket for the discounted price of $20, please confirm by replying to this email.
If you would like to purchase the discounted ticket at The Hangout when you pick up your wristband, you will be able to do that then as well. Wristbands will not be available until at least 5/7, up to 5/10.
Please let us know.
Thanks,

Ah, so basically I need to e-mail them about the pre-party now and let them know that I want one.
What I gathered from the email was that if you wanted to order it online you have to reply to her email, but if you are able to make it to the Hangout to pick up your wristband before the fest you will be able to get a $20 ticket there. I didn't reply because I just plan on getting one in person and avoid the online processing fees.
