Hate on Kings of Leon all you want. I saw them on the opening date on that tour, and they were AMAZING. I thought the same thing as you guys did until I saw them, and that is one of the Top 5 shows I've ever seen. BUT, that being said, they are no longer the band of the moment. I would say that title goes to the Black Keys right now.
Why is Kings of Leon even in the discussion? Did the main guy get rehab or mental health treatment? Do they have a new album coming out?
As I mentioned earlier, the last I heard of them they were playing a large show and the main guy 100% melted down, completely drunk, freaked out on the band and Axl Rose'd that bitch and left 15 minutes after the show start. They left that other show way early due to a bird shitting on them at some other show.
You do not bite the hand that feeds in the music industry, moves like that cost the old guys that run things a lot of money and they will replace you quick with some other;
"leather group...or plastic group....or group that looks real queer! The Tinseltown afficianados come to see and not to hear....but then again...the system works as perfect as a dream...it works for all those record company pricks that come to skim the....CREAM....from the cesspools of excitement...where Jim Morrison once stood....it's a Tinseltown Rebellion man, from downtown Hollywood."

I think we'll see a 90's band, a couple of legends, some EDM (I think the highest EDM will be somebody that's not really big yet, but I'll put someone we know about in that spot for right now), and something mainstream/pop/rock (Kings of Leonish) that's kind of out of left field. So this is a combination of what I want to happen and what I think will happen.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Pearl Jam - John Mayer Maroon 5 - The Avett Brothers - The Shins deadmau5 - Snoop Dogg - Dr. John Childish Gambino - The National - Disco Biscuits
Alternates: Jane's Addiction, Jack Johnson, Green Day, and Elton John

He did make it halfway thru the show, and then he was so drunk that he went in the back to puke and never came back. They cancelled all the U.S. dates of the tour.

The music industry also values recognizability, and Kings of Leon are still a well known band. I've heard their crap twice in the last week, at the grocery store or wherever. They still get radio play. If they can make the singer dude get his shit together enough for an album and a tour, they'll make bank. I bet they find a way to make that happen. But I really hope Hangout avoids them if they do.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Prince - Pearl Jam - Beck Jeff Beck - My Morning Jacket - Snoop - 311
I will definitely be there, no matter what the lineup looks like. Beach party + music = yes.
Would love to see Beck on the beach, doubt they'll go Pearl Jam though with Deluna Fest grabbin' them this year.
Hangout seems to be good with re-treads because the location is so tit. You may very well be right, but seeing them on the lineup after being rode hard and put up wet wouldn't surprise me.
"Here is some money for playing a lackluster tired set after everyone who really wants to see you already has, but its the beach and the brahs will congregate"
I drove to the Hangout on Black Friday and got $50 weekend passes. It was a major hassle and we were there a while but it was totally worth it. Sold those passes at the fest after we got $200 VIP passes from the condo.
Essentially I got a free VIP pass to Hangout. As good as it gets'd

i'd give a testicle to see Billy Joel. aint never gonna happen tho. George Benson would be rad too. someone mentioned skynyrd on the other board and I have to admit that the show i saw them play at brookhaven NY is in the top 3 shows i've ever seen (though I saw them a second time in philly and they blew)...would have no issue watching them but there's no way they're gonna try to attract the biker crowd, so that gets a 5% chance from me.
they're really gonna need to get some soulive or lettuce in there, in addition to some YMSB. ozomatli would be an awesome thursday kickoff party headliner

I also think the organizers noticed the difference in atmosphere at the festival this year as well. I enjoyed the festival a lot (definitely favorite so far), but it was obvious the change was a reflection of the line-up. I'm a college kid and I enjoyed all the music from this year, but I HATED the crowd.
Anybody else who went: how did y'all feel about the crowd?

I'd be interested in seeing how people felt bout the crowd... I'm sure it was kind of douchey, maybe like being in a frat party on the beach w/o the kegs.

I didn't mind the crowd, but I wouldn't say it was particularly great either. Not as eclectic as I was anticipating. Sure, there were plenty of tools but they all seemed to keep to their groups. I would have expected some fights, but didn't see any. It was a pretty mellow crowd in my opinion...I chalk a lot of it up to the fact that everybody's now in their own little worlds with their cell phones, kind of undermining the festival atmosphere and lots of interaction that traditionally adds to the experience doesn't happen as much these days. (Actually, a great blog post I recently read describing this might be interesting to yall: joekraus.com/were-creating-a-culture-of-distraction)
By and large it was surprisingly tame...didn't see too many ridiculously messed up people, but also felt the crowd could have (should have) been more rowdy at a few shows.
Mellowness definitely ruled (and will continue to, as long as its on the beach! )
