The crowd was not even close to as bad as I was expecting, but maybe that was because I was in the right places at the right times and/or I didn't let anything bother me because I constantly had an alcoholic beverage in my hand thanks to the VIP hookup. Everyone that I was around seemed to be in a great mood though and really enjoyed themselves. In fact, I would say that it seemed like the most enjoyable crowd that i have experienced at a festival and it's probably mostly due to the pleasant atmosphere. I met several people there from out of town that went to Coachella and they were extremely impressed. They all told me that the majority of the people that they interacted with at Coachella were nowhere near as pleasant and that they encountered numerous asssholes everyday there. I didn't encounter any asssholes at hangout 2012, but I stayed away from the EDM tent and had no desire to enter the DMB crowd on Sunday.

That's refreshing to hear. It had to have definitely helped that you stayed away from the EDM tent ;D You going to Bear Creek this year Longinus?
Plenty of fratty douches but hot chicks in bikinis easily outnumbered them. The rage factor was like....1/2 of last year and 1/4 of the first year. Lots of people schwilly on crappy beer so you got that "DUH" vibe throughout the fest. I saw a big fight at RHCP in the VIP area as soon as I made it past the assholes by the pool that tried to keep me from getting to the sand. I had to shoulder check a few chumps for acting stupid but thats nothing new.
I had a great time this year; the infrastructure improvements made the fest overall a way better time. I really wish this lineup had been last year so the "we got it right" fest this year would have been insanely epic. Hopefully Hangout doesn't shitt the diaper and book more Chad bands next year and books a stellar lineup.
I think they will. The hype over the fest is over because of that weak lineup. They didn't sell out either. They dumped a ton of VIP tix on the condos who had to sell them at a loss so they could say they "sold out" to save face. Next year will def sell out because they will have a great lineup, so all the ragers will come back and the new Chads will want to come back too.
Oh believe me, I know it'd be way cheaper. I could go VIP at bear creek and it would still be 3x cheaper that that trip to Lolla because there's no plane ticket or hotel necessary. There's no way Bear Creek could be more hardcore than jazzfest was this year. I wash my balls with ice water, dawg. The cold doesn't bother me. Intense humidity & death rays from the sun does.

The crowd was way younger than the previous two years, and there was an uptick in bro-dawgs, but I was overall pleasantly surprised by the vibe. The improved traffic flow probably helped....I saw less people raging over personal space violations (because heaven forbid that someone steps on the corner of the towel you spread out in the middle of a crowd). People could also get a little nasty when the dance tent was at capacity last year, which wasn't an issue after this year's expansion. Everyone's friendlier when they don't need to fight for space.
As far as selling out goes, I think they just got greedy with the VIP prices this year. GA sold out quickly, and I'd expect that to be standard going forward.

Oh yeah, Bear Creek has probably the BEST weather at ANY fest I've EVER been to. HANDS DOWN. You'll have a blast if you haven't been... I didn't know what I was getting into the first time I went anyone on the FunkNJam forums? It's not very active at all, but that's BC & Springfest's diggs...
Yeah, BC 2012 would pop my Suwannee cherry. I was considering busting her open at Wanee this year, but I already had tickets to see the Melvins/Unsane show in nola that weekend. Heh, We should prolly bump that Bear Creek thread and stop hijacking this one before a mod comes in here and give us a whoopin'.

lol gotta play by the rules sometimes I guess... This year's __ will be a great cherry poppin' experience for you, SOSMP steals a little part of your soul each time you go. You going to the Melvins (lite) show in P'cola in a few months?
caddyshaq and I are doing 3 Melvins Lite shows: Athens > B'ham > P'cola We are also doing 4 of those Flaming Lips shows on the 28th of this month: H'burg > Biloxi > Baton Rouge > NOLA So we will be taking part in encouraging both of those bands set guinness world records via raging the shit out of those shows.

That's bad ass dude. I knew the FLIPS were ending their run in NOLA, but had no clue the other shows were gonna be so close also! That's gonna be a helluva time for sho, and one for the record books! (pun obviously intended)
Edit: my gf and I might try to make the Vinyl show, so we may just all have to get up for some pre-gamin' possibly.
Yeah, that's cool. We'll prolly drive straight to Mobile after B'ham show is over and sleep till early afternoon. Can hit up hopjacks for a couple of beers before the show. The last time I went in there before that Black Tusk show, i looked at the menu and immediately ordered a dogfishhead 120 minute and a 90 minute. Dude was like "aww, those are the only two beers on that menu that we are out of" me "godfuckingdammit! gimmie a Southern Tier Unearthly then I guess"
I still haven't had 120 minute on tap. We can't get dogfishhead beers in AL, MS, or LA.

Aw man, that's lame, I know MS has real shitttty alcohol laws, but I didn't know you couldn't get dogfish head in AL... I would've just assumed the hopjacks out there had it. That's crazy. Well you oughtta hit up one of our local liquor stores when ya'll come in and stock up on shnit. I always have real bad luck ordering @ hopjacks downtown, it's like the first thing I go to bout 75% of the time they'll be out of.
Yeah, I hit up Richie's the last time I was in town, but I ended up getting liquor because it's so much cheaper there and my stockpile was depleted. Plus there's a bunch of mixers there that we can't get in Mobile too like Campari and Luxardo. I'll definitely try to hit up Richie's or Four Winds up for beer next month when I ride out for the Clutch show at Vinyl. If I wait to do it until Emerald Coast Beer Festival sept 7th...they will end up being out of everything I want because everyone else has the same idea that day and the morning after. Thread Hijacked

Definitely dude, also you should check out Wine World by Cordova Mall... They have a great craft beer selection and carry stuff that Richey's wont, and they are a little cheaper than Four Winds. Also you dont have that Greek dude trying to force you into buying his cheese... We'll probably be @ the Clutch show as well, I've yet to catch them.
Thread Hijacked for sure. By the best, for the best.
Yeah, I've been trying to catch Clutch for a while and have yet to see them either. I haven't been to Chan's Wine World in like 3 years. I do recall them being kinda in between the prices/selection of Richie's and Four Winds though. I've just been lazy lately and get everything I want from Richie's and only take a peak in Four Winds occasionally. Yeah, that fuggin' guy...I've bought a sammich from there a few times and I always accept free samples, but he is completely ridiculous with the hounding of customers to buy stuff.

Completely and totally ridiculous, that guy does NOT slack up! Merciless is a good word to describe him. I think Chan's Wine World might be different, this one popped up outside of the mall a couple years ago, right behind the Chik-Fil-A. I hear ya bout Richie's, it's just so convenient and the prices are really good sometimes on certain items. They used to get all sorts of "out of season" brews and put the sixer's on sale for like $3.99... It's been awhile since they've done that though.
Yea we know all the hetty spots in P'cola been doin' runs for booze for like 8 years or so lol. Alabama has only had beer over 6% for like two years or so.
That fuuckin' Greek bastarrd! He's tried to ring me up for stuff I wasn't buying at the register. He's a cartoon character he's so stereotypical.
Well we both know that if EJ gets booked he will take a headline spot. I would rather hear him than Paul Simon - and if I am not mistaken, PS closed the festival down 2 years ago? I would rather have someone else close the fest down, but 35,000 singing "Tiny Dancer" Friday night on the beach with 2 days to come sounds good to me.
On the other hand, I see what you are saying about taking the place of another bad ass headliner. I would rather see Prince, Pearl Jam and Beck and not have to scratch one of those 3 to fit him in.
Paul Simon closed her down in 2011. I'd have no problem with Elton as one of the headliners, but I'd definitely prefer some Prince. Especially considering Elton is playing some shows in the SE soon:
You're like 3 and a half hours away from Tampa, right? Go get you some...
Yep, and even closer (2:45) from Savannah. Thanks for the heads up! I think I will surprise my girl with a weekend in Savannah, which is a really cool town, and not tell her what we are doing Sat night... Until we walk in. Thanks again for the info!
