I know none of you like breathing in dust. What causes the majority of the dust? Festi-Cabs. They may be convenient for the privilaged who can afford 5 bucks to avoid having to walk back to camp, but we all pay the price (negative externality) of this convenience for the wealthy festival goers. Why do I have to move out of the way and walk in the mud or on the sloped ditch, so some tired and wealthy 1% er can whiz on by me. No more I say. End the Festi-Cabs.
The cabs are part of the problem but not all. 2007 was the worst dust year ever, that I've been, and they didn't have cabs then. Bonnaroo needs to water the streets more and lay the dust down.
If you don't like the cabs, that's fine. They are not the cause.

$5 is steep if you take it a lot, but i am poor so i just don't. maybe once a day (we were way the quack out in pod 1). with that being said, we also don't drink a lot in centeroo or eat much food in there, so i guess you have to alter your 'roo plans for your budget. everything is overpriced, not just cabs.
i do agree that they are a big root of the dust/dirt problem out in the campgrounds - but at least a LOT of the festi-cab drivers try to drive a bit more responsibly than the bonnaroo staff running around in those things. we were camped on the outskirts of pod 1 and THOSE GUYS were the ones unnecessarily gunning it through tons of dirt and not giving a sh!t about how much it threw up into the air. i say we ban ALL gas & battery-operated vehicles and have everyone go mountie in 2013
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Is this real? I would hardly consider a $5 golf cart ride an exclusive privilege of the wealthy class.
All jokes are half truth. Seriously though, why should I have to deal with breathing in dust and jumping out of the way for something i derive no benefit from. The 99% metaphor has more to do with the majority getting shit on so a relative minority can gain some minor benefit.

the Cabs are not hte issue. they do need to water the streets more often to kep the dust from building up. I can safely say that there was ZERO dust from the Festi cabs on Sunday morning... I personally took the Festi at least once daily. whether it was $5 or a beer, it was well worth it for me. I planned on it anyways.. now the horse poopy was another issue... they seriously need some little wook following them with a scooper and a broom.

The cabs let people who are camped way out get to centeroo quicker to see the bands or if you have blisters to get back to camp to nurse them. Not only that there are people who need the cabs to help them into centeroo when they encounter health issues mid Roo.
You do know that Bonnaroo lets you know that the middle of the roads are not supposed to be for foot traffic right? Golf carts, among all the other festival vehicles, are supposed to have the right of way on the roads and those walking are asked to keep to the sides of the roads. I would be more concerned with the 7 dollar beer those wealthy 1% ers are drinking, way more of those than the cab riders.
You know how we come up with our Roo spending money? I sell crap on Ebay for months and months leading up to it. I make enough to cover gas money, souvenir purchases, food and the $80 for the festi-cab for the weekend.
Last year we were camped on the far side of Pod 11 near Shedd Rd. It was a 2 mile walk. It was the best $80 we spent the entire weekend and we are far from wealthy. I made 100% sure that we'd have the cash for it this time no matter what.
Where there's a will, there's a way and if you have budget issues than come up with a way to get the money. Don't complain about those of us that like the festi-cabs and go the extra mile to come up with the $$ for it.

Seriously? This is really just a dumb post. Previous Roos have been way dustier before they started having festi cabs. And those years they were even watering down the roads.
Has it occurred to you that the people using them actually need to use them for physical limitations they may have? Or for those of us over 40 it makes long day just a little easier on our body.
It has nothing to do with being wealthy, it is how you choose to spend your money. I am far from wealthy, I am just careful with my money. I chose to spend $5 bucks on cab a few times this weekend, instead of wasting my money on over-priced beer inside.
I think the OP has a really good point. Cabs = Dust they should be banned.
But I think the biggest cloud of dust i experienced all weekend was from a different, more sinister source. People dancing. Seriously the dust cloud during Trampled by Turtles was insane.

I think all that dust was made by your brunch dance, Bacon. YOU ARE THE CAUSE! Down with BACON!

I've been saying for years that they need ankle shackles at the stages and tents. You show up for a performance and you have to lock in.

I couldn't agree more, ban the stupid taxis. If youre handicapped, ok I can understand, but most people are just lazy, and for that it's annoying. It's only another ploy for the festival to make money, and I'm sorry but why should someone walking have to yield to the taxis for them to splash mud or spew dust and exhaust in your face?? I never move out of the way of the taxis, they should yield to the pedestrians or have their own backroads.

I think the incessant beer drinking and eating of over-priced fried food is the cause of the porto issues. Absolutely ridiculous to pay $10 for a plate of food that's just gonna end up in a porto. Why doesnt that samosa stay in my body?

Get off your 'plight of the common man' high horse. You do realize that by being able to not work for a week and afford Bonnaroo tickets you're already considered privileged by global standards? You think being able to afford a few $5 rides makes someone a one-percenter?
i was camped back in Pvssy Galore. While stumbling out of the RV section afterpartying after Phish (complete opposite sides of the festival, at least an hour long walk in the mud after it rained all night, with a headful of party favors..) a cab was the ONLY option. anything else was unfathomable.. After what felt like 20 minutes of riding through mud and passing several miserable looking people sliding around and soaked in the stinging rain, i remember thinking that i would've gladly paid twice the amount they were asking for that ride. Pay your significant other's fare and you're 100% going to have a good time when you're dropped off at your tent.. Cabs cause dust?! Try Tennessee in the middle of a drought in June while 90,000 people stomping around on a farm being the cause of dust..
i guess i was one of the 1% *shrugs*

I feel for your plight, but being in the 1% just feels. soo. gooood.
This was my first year in Pod 1. And instead of that being a disaster, festi-cabs MADE my Bonnaroo experience the best one I've had out of the 3 I went to.

No way man! My car was out in pod 1 by the tree line, and my camp was in Tent Only directly in front of the arch (whoo-hoo!). I probably spent a total of $30-$40 on cab rides over the weekend to get supplies from my car to camp and I was solo this year. Having to haul everything on foot would have been murder. I'm not a 90lb weakling but I'm 6' tall and weigh $1.50 soaking wet.
And for the folks who are getting twisted up about the OP :
Did not take any of the cabs but being out in pod 1 they were sorta a pain coming and going. Definitely when the mud showed up and there were only so many mud-less routs the honking cabs only added to the inconvenience of the 20 min walk to or from centeroo

Count me in as a 1%er next year. $50 for a weekend of cabbing around should be worth saving my feet/energy and not coming home with destroyed/blistered feet.
Yeah, I'm mad about the taxi's too! I wish they were running Wednesday night when I dragging my crap across the farm to tent only after getting parked next to portopotties a mile away from Centeroo.
(Honestly, I'd imagine it would be a nightmare trying to run those things while they're trying to orient 80,000 people to the farm. Still, I would've paid $20 a trip...)
