I think the OP has a really good point. Cabs = Dust they should be banned.
wow bacon if i know you felt this way I wouldnt have offered you that cab ride
but in all seriousness... This year it's fair to say that I'm a little out of shape, and I was camped on the far east side of BFE. No, I am not of the wealthy class, but I DO always budget for taxicab rides. It's not me being lazy or elitist, it's me remembering that Bonnaroo is marathon and I have take to every opportunity for rest available.
so please don't ban the festi-cabs, my feet just can't take it.
They were still only $5 this year? Everything else went up a buck.
I was a 25-minute walk from the arch this year so I never had to take a cab.
Seriously, I thought I'd have to sell my youngest to a rich festi-cab riding couple to pay for the $2 garlic grilled cheeses to feed the rest of my family. Another world is possible!

These festi-tax people could be making alot more money than they are too. I'm talking about the drivers. We figured out how it works: You, the driver, lease the cab from FesTaxi (or whatever the company name is) for a certain amount of money. After that, there is an additional rent on the taxi you pay at the fest itself, that you are supposed to make from cab fare. After you pay back FesTaxi their allotted share of the profits, everything you make after is all you.
Considering all the dumba$$ cab drivers I had, and KNOWING there is a huge demand for transportation at Roo like that... i would have definitely WORKED IT and walked out loaded. I definitely wanna do this one of these years.
I know none of you like breathing in dust. What causes the majority of the dust? Festi-Cabs. They may be convenient for the privilaged who can afford 5 bucks to avoid having to walk back to camp, but we all pay the price (negative externality) of this convenience for the wealthy festival goers. Why do I have to move out of the way and walk in the mud or on the sloped ditch, so some tired and wealthy 1% er can whiz on by me. No more I say. End the Festi-Cabs.
Get off your 'plight of the common man' high horse. You do realize that by being able to not work for a week and afford Bonnaroo tickets you're already considered privileged by global standards? You think being able to afford a few $5 rides makes someone a one-percenter?
True dis. Regardless of whether one can just afford Bonnaroo, or has to work their arse off to come, Bonnaroo is comprised of people who could be categorized as being affluent. Because regardless of if you saved to go or were able to just afford we all had the resources to some how acquire the dough to go, and the luxury of not working. So don't try and apply the occupy movement here, we are all closer to the 1% than the homeless guy at Walmart or the unemployed/trapped in cycles of poverty. It's a festival of people with the resources and luxury to come and get quacked up for 3 to 5 days.
This aside, do y'all think if they replaced the dirt roads with the sand/Bermuda grass mixture of centeroo it would hold up or help? I was impressed with how the grass didn't tear up in centeroo, but maybe as a road it wouldnt. Just an idea.

NO! The worst dust I saw at Roo 2012 was on a grass path that all the golf-carts were using as a short-cut. On the gravel roads it didn't seem like much of a problem.
I'd say make some rules for the golf-carts to limit them to the gravel roads.
I don't think $5 is expensive for the fest-cabs, but they absolutely stir up the dust something fierce when the whiz by. This was my fifth year and I still haven't used the taxis (or the silent disco or comedy for that matter, finally did the ferris wheel tho!). The dust got to me last year and somewhat this year. The taxis definitely do not help the dust problem and imo worsen it, but they shouldn't get rid of the taxis altogether. I don't use them, but I completely understand why people camped in BFE or who are tired use the taxis. The already tried cutting down on the dust this year. I think they made a lot more noticeable improvements this year than any other year. Maybe they do something like getting more frequent water trucks to wet the road.

Cool, yea it seemed like the grass held up to the foot traffic in centeroo, but i can see golf carts destroying that. They should definitely experiment with different types of roads. Like gravel and the rubber mulch that they use in playgrounds. I dunno. Or we could all just accept the glory of dust- the natural sun block/ spray tan

Since they won't let me bring my limo and driver into Centeroo, they damn well better let me use those cabs. And I don't mean to brag, but I'm kind of a big deal. You should consider it an honor to breathe the dust my cab kicks up.
Has it occurred to you that the people using them actually need to use them for physical limitations they may have? Or for those of us over 40 it makes long day just a little easier on our body.
It has nothing to do with being wealthy, it is how you choose to spend your money. I am far from wealthy, I am just careful with my money. I chose to spend $5 bucks on cab a few times this weekend, instead of wasting my money on over-priced beer inside.
Truth! We had someone with arthritis in our group that just can't walk >mile both ways. Also, my BF is 42 lol

What Jade said.
Those cabs made it possible for me to stay at Bonnaroo the whole time. I spent well over $100 carting me and my friends to and from Centeroo, not every time, but most trips back and forth. I'm recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and underestimated the pain the walking would cause me. I ended up breaking down and getting an ADA wristband which gave me a $2 per trip discount. If I would've known how hard it would be for me to get around I would've gotten my doctor to issue a temp handicap tag so we could've gone Access. But for me, those cabs saved my Bonnaroo.
And as others have said, the worst dust I ever see is in centeroo and the two main roads coming out of centeroo. I don't think the cabs contribute very much to the dust at all.
I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Chris and I own Festi-Cab.
First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone that got rides with us this year. It was our first year at Bonnaroo as a company and overall it was an incredible experience. We met a ton of awesome people and had a great time shuttling you around the grounds.
It is great to hear how many of you truly need the service. Sometimes we get some flak about it just being for "lazy" people but the fact of the matter is, Bonnaroo is a huge venue and for various reasons our service really is needed. Obviously, it's not for everyone but is definitely needed for some.
Secondly, I just wanted to clear up a few things that were brought up in this thread....
1. We hate the dust as much as everyone does and I personally hate that we do kick up a little more dust with our cabs. BUT the fact of the matter is it's up to the festival to make sure everything is watered down so we don't dust everyone out. We've discussed bringing our own water to help water down problem areas and may do so in the future (regardless of what the festival does).
2. Our price is determined by Bonnaroo. Out of all the festivals we work (which is 26 this year) Bonnaroo is our highest-priced. We'd love to make it cheaper somehow but it's not up to us.
3. Our hours are also determined by Bonnaroo. They wouldn't let us run on Wed. (as someone mentioned) and wouldn't let us run before 9am (which was also mentioned). Again, we'd love to be running by Wed. and 24 hours a day but the powers that be wouldn't let us.
Again, MUCH thanks to everyone that got rides with us this year! We hope to see you again next year!
Awesome. I thought it was a different or modified company from past years.
I like that you came on here to answer some questions. I think the "taxi" service at festivals is a nice additive when you have venues that are constantly growing.
I vividly remember going to festivals ten years ago and there was NO onsite parking. Which meant you had to park your car 2 miles up or down the road and then haul all of your shit to the site. I did it. It wasn't fun.
I look forward to seeing you guys later on in the summer. Even though I didn't require the service as I was camped right next to the clock tower.
What you're saying makes sense, especially about not running on Wednesday night. Too much chaos going on.
A suggestion for next year:
Perhaps providing maps to the drivers. Maybe twice the size and laminated? Even after showing my driver where I wanted to go on my map for about five minutes I still ended up on the other side of the farm. (I was hesitant to tell her she was going the wrong way in case she had a set route that she needed to take.)
As far as pricing goes, I don't really have any complaints.
Some sort of low-flow sprinkler draining off the back of the trucks would certainly help with dust especially if there was a way of making it greener, like reusing from the troughs or the fountains or something.
The dust thing is really a moot point. Even if the cabs weren't around there would still be that many more people walking on the roads. And then there are the golf carts that are for EMS and staff. So unless every single person walks around with a water bottle with a hole poked in it dripping water behind them to settle the dust it's always going to be around. And this was nothing compared to last year.
The ONLY thing that stops the dust is rain. ANd then we'll all complain about the mud.
What were the prices? Were the $5 a seat like previous years? Or did it go up?
For the record I support the festicabs. Bonnaroo is too huge to walk everywhere if you're camped far away.
Prices were the same, $5/seat. Although I was told last year that sometimes the $5 only got you to the next section (as in the drivers were somewhat limited to sections) then you would have to get off and pay if you wanted to ride to the next area... but we just charged $5 for the whole ride, anywhere you wanted to go.
I didn't attend Bonnaroo this year. But my biggest gripe with the cabs if not the festival as a whole is the lack of cabs available (actually "lack" is a bad word there was none the last two years I went) at the airport shuttle drop off. Dragging 100s of pounds of camping gear to tent only really starts the weekend off on a bad foot, especially after lugging said 100s of pounds of camping gear across the country. They used to have cabs that picked people up there. I was more than happy to pay about $40 (they charged each bag as a person). Last year I probably would have paid $100 as we brought more gear than normal and it was HOT.
Bonnaroo needs taxis at the shuttle drop off!!! My back is getting bad in my old age I think if I go next year I will have to rent a car as I cannot fathom another trek from shuttle drop off to tent only.

Welcome to the forums, Chris.
Just want to thank you, your organization, and all the people/volunteers in it for missing the music to drive us around. Took me three years of going to Bonnaroo to finally try out using the cabs, and it was a tremendous help/service. Everyone that rode me to and from camp was nice and talkative. Definitely come back next year.

I think a lot of the jabs at Festicab here are made tongue in cheek. Last year I found myself (on Sunday) dragging a bit, and took a cab ride from BFE, and it was worth every bit of the $5.
