Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I agree. You're right on point. I just think NoD threw a lil confusion at Dr Duoung. By saying the knife only belonged in the other thread. Dr D thought he was saying it wouldnt be a fun set. Which we all know is far from the truth. No matter which thread you find yourself in.
Either way, we're beating a dead horse by breaking down the difference between the two threads.

I'm also against elitism. I like Pl, Bassnectar, aphex twin, BT, all kinds of EDM. Some are better than others, but I still had a blast at Pl and Bassnectar. I don't wantthem next year, we need some new blood next year

I have no idea who you are but I like you already!

The only EDM act I would be okay with playing roo again is Shpongle. Their new setup, named the Masqueradelooks sweet as shiz.
Also, thanks for the vote of agreement jgalls
I love shpongle but I thought the masquerade was a step down from the shpongletron. Also, why is it the masquerade? No costumes or dancers on this tour, just simon and screens.Still a cool setup though.

Yeah I concur after checking out Shpongletron again. I didn't get a chance to fully enjoy them, I got burned. . Also I missed a good chunk of their set to see Ratatat
Are KMFDM, Meat Beat Manifesto or Cabaret Voltaire still around? As you can tell, I'm really hip to the new EDM sounds.
KMFDM is still around, but Sasha is the last man left standing as the other guys have all moved on. Also, I believe he has moved back to Germany on a permanent basis which probably lowers the likelihood a little.

I'd like to see more electro-pop LN next year. Cut Copy, Miami Horrors, Holy Ghost!, Strange Talk, Penguin Prison (non-DJ set), St Lucia, and Friendly Fires would be amazing LN shows I think.
I'd be ok with one or two bigger DJ's, specifically Kaskade, SHM, or Deadmau5, but I get bored with too much of the same beat over and over. This happens to me at some of the EDM shows. Same with dubstep, I'm not a huge fan and don't find that its that fun to dance to. Some songs are good, but overall its not my thing.
Also, I found the LN this year a little lacking. I liked 2011 better with Scissor Sisters (THATS good dance music for me), and even Pretty Lights and Ratatat. This year Big Gigantic was fun, as well as FlyLo for the most part. I was disappointed by Major Lazer. I like Original Don/Pon De Floor Majer Lazer, but too much of their show/music was the slower/grinding hip-hop beat.
Swedish House Mafia are calling it a day after this current round of shows...anyone think they'll stretch it in 2013 and could end it all at Roo. That'd be an absolutely massive get.

No?
Sorry, I should've mentioned in the current Rolling Stone they mention they'll be announcing more shows in Aug/Sep that will go through at least the end of the year.
They have shows already scheduled. Theyre announcing one last show in August. They posted a message on www.swedishhousemafia.com
They list tour dates and the bottom says "The last leg of this journey will be announced in Aug" Isn't it possible they'll be announcing a full scale tour in Aug? Why is it assumed it's only 1 other last show?
I'm open to suggestions for a better thread title. It should be descriptive of the music within, while setting itself apart from the exclusivity of the other thread. And it should not be negative. Because I know that's what's coming.
"Brostep and Fistpumping: EDM 2013?"
"The Same EDM Acts That Play At Every Festival: EDM 2013?"
...because that's really all that this thread has delineated itself to do: there's plenty of room for discussion of "fun" EDM in the other thread, just with a general disclaimer to hey, maybe not focus all our energy on discussing the same 4-5 "big" EDM acts that play all over (Mau5, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Avicii, Skrillex).
There is a difference between not focusing all your energy on something, and outright ridiculing and making fun of people who do like those artists to the point where the thread title specifically bans their mention.

Why does it bother you so much though?
The whole point of the other thread is that it's the underdog. The music mentioned in there is criminally under represented at Bonnaroo while the "music" in this thread is attended en masse by shirtless bros who are "there for the party."

Around here, but not at Bonnaroo, and I know I made the 2012 thread as a reaction to what I saw at Bonnaroo walking around the night Girl Talk and Bassnectar played in 2011.

To be fair, you should probably read that thread. Aside from people saying "no" to certain acts, nobody is really mocking anyone.
I do read that thread, I also read it's predecessor. If someone posted in that thread "I saw part of Skrillex's show at Bonnaroo and it was not half bad" I am sure the groupthink ridiculing would set in, Nod would get butthurt about his title, and you would sit around with a empty can of lighter fluid, a Zippo, and a who me look on your face like usual.

to be fair, the other thread specifically excludes discussion of the big name acts by its very title. I don't want to discuss said acts over there because it would disrespect the spirit of the thread, no?
so we have this thread for all the big name, big dumb fun acts that we don't want polluting the other thread. no big deal, and no one needs to get their feelings hurt.
I've seen this done in other areas. a science fiction and fantasy forum I used to frequent used to forbid talk of big name fantasy authors in a certain forum, lest discussion of R. Scott Bakker and China Mieville be drowned out by hoards of GRRM, Robert Jordan, and Terry Goodkind threads. not knocking those authors (well goodkind sucks hard) just making it so other topics can be easily discussed.

Your 2013 thread has been fine so far, but I feared a continuation of the behavior in the 2012 thread, where there was alot of outright mocking and belittlement of anyone who would speak out in support of Skrillex, Deadmau5, etc.
The whole point of the other thread is that it's the underdog. The music mentioned in there is criminally under represented at Bonnaroo while the "music" in this thread is attended en masse by shirtless bros who are "there for the party."
I know this is directed at Jess, but allow me to answer. It bothers me because I LIKE this music, I think it's well produced and fun, and I think it has merit. If people disagree with me, it's fine. But when people come with this attitude of "No, you have terrible taste and you're incorrect, this music is terrible by definition" . Well fuck you. If you don't like it, fine. But don't tell me I'm wrong for liking it. And if we're not welcomed to discuss it in the underdog thread I want there to be somewhere we can discuss it

am I wrong here?
No, Goodkind is the worst.
correct, goodkind is the worst fantasy author I have read.
