I've continued to think based on Fuzzy's statement. I am definitely still on team GlennBon and going to keep my answer as a firm "no" based on colloquial usage.
I would consider sandwiches and grinders (and mayyyybe hamburgers) like squares and rectangles. Sandwiches are rectangles. Sure the square/grinder is technically a rectangle, but do you look at a square and say, "hey look! A rectangle!" No. You don't.
If I say that I am eating a sandwich, this is what I am eating:
If I say that I am eating a grinder/sub, this is what I am eating:
And this is a hamburger. Not a hamburger sandwich:
Come on now. No one says hamburger sandwich.
No one says Cheese Steak Sandwich, Muffaletta Sandwich, Lobster Roll Sandwich, Po-Boy Sandwich, or Polish Boy Sandwich... yet they are all sandwiches. If bread is the delivery vehicle, it's a SANDWICH!

I just don't understand how this is a debate. True, I never say I'm gonna make a sandwich and then have a hamburger. But it is still a type of sandwich. We call lots of sandwiches by their name and omit the word sandwich: Philly cheesesteak, sloppy joe, blt, reuben. All of these are sandwiches, and so is a burger!
Glenn, you don't neccesarily have to be physically fit to be a golfer either. See John Daily.
While I enjoy golfing and realize the crazy skill set you have to have to be really good, I don't consider it a sport either. Just don't think it's on the same level as hunting or fishing.

If I say that I am eating a sandwich, this is what I am eating: pic of chicken sammich
If I say that I am eating a grinder/sub, this is what I am eating: pic of a grinder and a sub (arguably) sammich

I somewhat disagree. I think your definition needs to be honed a bit. My first instinct was to say a hot dog is NOT a sandwich, but your post forced me to change my position on that.
I think if the main ingredients are delivered by being wedged in between bread AND you eat it with your hands (this clears up the soup bowl problem Zapp brought up), it's a sandwich. Therefore a hamburger is a sandwich.

The traditional square sandwich is maybe the first thing that comes to mind when one pictures a sandwich, but it's merely part of a family of sandwiches that includes subs/hoagies/heros/grinders, chicken sandwiches, and yes, the common hamburger.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

"A hamburger (also called a hamburger sandwich, burger or hamburg) is a sandwich consisting of a cooked patty of ground meat usually placed inside a sliced bread roll. Hamburgers are often served with lettuce, bacon, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese and condiments such as mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and relish.[1]"

Connotation vs. denotation. If someone talks about packing a sandwich for work, or going out for lunch to grab a sandwich, I can just about guarantee they're not talking about a burger. Just like there are "burger joints" and sandwich shops.

And here we get to the crux of the disagreement. NoD's original question was asking if a hamburger is a sandwich. The question, to me, is asking from the perspective of a classification much like if you asked me if a dog was a mammal. I can see what you are saying and agree with you, but for the purposes of his question, I would say that it is.
