I had a blast last year. I'm 50/50 on the move to October, for one I love the fact it will be colder on the other hand I was going to go see divine fits and mmj at soundland
Not sure if they changed it this year but last year it's basically like when regular tickets go on sale, except you don't pay money. You just make sure you "reserve" tickets before they run out. I think there is also a paid option that gets you in if the free ones are gone (and the paid one gets you some swag).
Yeah itm is correct. There's the free tickets that go really fast (I mean who wouldn't want a free ticket to a show?) but there are pay tickets too. I think they were $50 this past year. I might try and go again this year after I couldn't get off work last time.

Yea and for a good lineup I'd say $50 + the junk they give you is worth it. I would have paid $50 for the acts I saw last year.
Yup. Seth Hurwitz (9:30 Club, I.M.P. - Merriweather) and Andrew Dreskin (TicketFly) are totally in bed together. You can guarantee this is how at least some tickets will go - VIP and non-free ones at a minimum.
Took a breather right near Dreskin's family's "reserved area" during Okkervil River there last year. It was an obnoxious entourage.
We go to this every year. I liked it better when it was multi-day at Pimlico, but MMP is closer to us anyway. With the late date this year, though, I may have to skip since we leave for ACL a few days later. I guess I'll wait and see the lineup.
Edit - MPP not MMP. I was thinking of My Morning Pavilion, I guess...

"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Does anyone know how many free tickets there are vs. paid tickets? I've always thought it funny they call it the "FreeFest" when only some of the tickets are free.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Definitely, definitely going to this. I had an amazing time last year. It's not too long of a ride from me, and we got a cheap hotel room last year right around there.
Edit: For the free tickets, I remember they announced the date they would go on sale last year, and it was at 10 am. I scored some, but less than 10 minutes later the Facebook page was blowing up with people complaining they didn't get any. Act fast!
Preeeetty sure I'm gonna do this (especially if I can score free tix, obviously). Lineups the last two years have been killer; the only reason I didn't go last year was because it was the same weekend as Hopscotch and I had to go with the hometown festival. This year, it happens to fall on my birthday weekend (October 9th is my birthday). Happy birthdayyyyyy toooo meeeeeee
Well damn, why does this have to be the weekend I'm supposed to see MMJ (*again*) in Nashville? Depending on the lineup, might strongly consider this one. After all, this one has a Bunny, a Bonzai, Hipster Thor & more! It would be my 4th festival of the year w/some of you fine folks.
Speaking of that, just noticed my new tag MAY THE HIPSTER HAMMER OF THOR COME DOWN UPON YE WHO DO NOT COME TO FREEFEST!!!
Seriously, though, can't wait for this lineup to come out. This is gonna be an awesome fest and a great time. I imagine the lineup'll be out sometime this week. I got a DM from Virgin Mobile today saying that I may participate in the lineup announcement because of some tweets I sent out guessing acts on the bill. From what I understand, there's also a chance I'll get to win two tix for participating in the lineup announcement. That'd lower my stress level for the day the free tix are released Will keep everyone updated.

You can just hold off and do one of the MMJ shows out east around NYE. I know I will be doing one of them at least if not NYE whenever the announce the Boston show.

Hey guys, I have a huge list of predicted people for the Free Fest. So, they had a contest on who people thought would be there, and than the free fest's twitter account would follow randoms who guessed a band correctly, and send them a direct message. Then, me being me, I looked at the people that the free fest account followed the day they ended the contest, and looked at all the musicians people predicted, than looked at their schedule's to see if they would fit the Virgin Free Fest '12 date, on Oct. 6 So here is my list:
Jack White(pretty much a lock, person only guessed him.)
M83(pretty much a lock, person only guessed them.)
Beck(I’m betting on it, this guys only other guess was Jack White, which the Freefest twitter account followed someone else who guessed Jack. Unless they have more than one announcing, that means beck should be there!)
Skrillex(Pretty much locked, only guess of a person.)
Delta Spirit(Pretty much locked, only guess of person that wasn‘t already pretty much a lock.)
Wiz Khalifa(pretty much locked, only guess of person.)
Dirty Projector(pretty much a lock, the only other group this guy guessed is playing on the 6th.)
Foo Fighters(Bet on it my friends! Unless they have more than one person announcing each band, this person’s only possible guesses were M83, and Foo Fighters!)
Oberhofer(Very Possible)
Alabama Shakes(Pretty damn possible)
Passion Pit(Very Possible)
Afghan Whigs(In NY the day before, very possible.)
Trampled by Turtles(In VA the day before, therefore makes them pretty likely)
Gavin Degraw(Pretty likely, only guess of person that was kind of possible.)
The Avett Brothers(Strongly possible. Their tour schedule makes it possible, but they are in Baltimore September.)
Frank Ocean(Possible, would love to see him!)
Silversun Pickups(Possible, would like to see it)
Girl Talk(Possible, dance forest anyone?)
Diplo(Possible, another guy for the Dance Forest!)
The Royal Concept(Possible)
The Civil Wars(Possible)
Neon Indian(Possible)
Franz Ferdidnad(Possible)
Moon Taxi(Possible)
Jukebox the Ghost(In Indy the 10th, it’s possible)
Best Coast(Possible)
Santigold(Possible)
Band of Skulls( also in the ACL, but in NO the 4th, this is more likely than Gambino or Clark Jr.)
Childish Gambino(at the ACL, it could possibly happen, don’t bet on it.)
Gary Clark Jr.(Just like gambino, it’s possible, but don’t bet on it)
The Joy Formidable(In Mexico the 14th, could happen.)
The National( kind of possible)
Temper Trap(Could happen, unlikely since they play the Fillmore on the 13th)
Dandy Warhols( In France August 28th, last tour date until November, so it‘s possible but very doubtable.)
Electric Guest(Play the Black Cat the 16th, so unlikely)
Foster the People(In Switzerland August 28th is their last tour date, so I doubt it.)
Awolnation(play in Oregon two days before, so don’t bet on it.)
Imagine Dragons(same as Awolnation) Killers(Doubt it)
The Drums(Doubt it)
Reptar(Don’t bet on it)
Calvin Harris(Don’t bet on it)
Miike Snow(Don’t bet on it)
Fitz and the Tantrums(Don’t Bet on it)
Blind Pilot(Don’t bet on it.)
Mumford & Sons(Unlikely, in Perth on the 12th)
Of Monsters and Men(Unlikely)
Chris Cornell(Unlikely)
TUnE-yArDs(Unlikely)
Datsik(Unlikely)
B.o.B(Unlikely)
Dirty Heads(Unlikely)
Mickey Avalon(Unlikely)
Ben Gibbard(Not counting on it)
Chiddy Bang(Not expecting it)
Tanlines(Very Unlikely)
Twin Shadow(10% Chance)
Artic Monkeys(1% chance)
Strokes(1% chance)
Vampire Weekend(1% chance)
Green Day(in Italy the 2nd, makes it verrrryyy unlikely)
Alex Clare(0.1% chance)
The way I determained all the bands that are "locked" is that if they were the person's only guess, or if the person's other guesses were already a "lock", or if the other guesses schedules wouldn't fit the Oct. 6 date.
Side notes: I was guessing only one fan would announce each person, if this isn't true than please disregard about what I said for Beck and the Foo Fighters.
Also, Fitz and the Tantrums, Of Monsters and Men, and Childish Gambino are the only 3 guesses of a person, all of their schedules fit the Oct. 6 date, so I have no clue which one is the "lock".
Lastly, sorry this post is so big, I thought I would just share my educated guesses with everyone, if some aren't correct, please don't get mad at me, these are just my guesses, they are in no way 100% announced.
