The only conflicts I'm really worried about is Cale vs Body/Head and Haval vs Frahm. Friday is a bit light, but I'm guessing thats due to a late start.
Saturday/Sunday is totally worth the cash.

any chance Television and Jonny Greenwood are at the same time?
Is there a spot most members are already booked at? I know there's several affordable places around Gay St. Hoping someone's got the best bang fer buck before we just book blindly.
does anyone want to share a ride from eastcoast to big ears this year? either boston or new york area. My friend and I are planning driving there. Last year we took greyhound from Mass to Bonnaroo and it was super fun but TIRING! no bussing this time. for BIG EARS.
or if anyone knows ppl who are looking for rides, plz plz lemme know. big hug!
Got Single Day tickets for Friday and Saturday. Feels good to commit myself since I've been going back and forth on attending since the lineup first came out.
Greenwood did a solo show earlier this week. The setlist looked better than I expected including some new material. I would guess we will get something similar.

I know this doesn't help a lot for this year, but it seemed kind of relevant for this thread, assuming the festival continues in future years. Knoxville is looking to get a slew of new hotels downtown (check out the user-created Google Map inset): www.knoxnews.com/news/2014/feb/26/josh-flory-is-downtown-knoxville-ready-for-565/
Side note: I'm defending my dissertation proposal at 9 AM on Friday, March 28!! I have to teach afterward, 12:20-1:10, but I will be out celebrating immediately afterward!! I know this isn't exactly a big "drinking festival" by the standard of bands playing, but after an accomplishment like this I'll definitely be downing some beer. Anyone who wants to day drink that afternoon is welcome to join!!
Get ready! A week from today we'll be releasing the full Big Ears schedule complete with performance times and locations, activity details, and more! In the mean time, be sure to follow along this week as we release some key schedule information regarding our headliners and some special surprises that are in store!
Actually, this makes it easier to swallow.

If you want something really close, stay at the double tree. It is within walking distance to all the venues. I don't know why people are saying to stay away from certain areas. All the areas listed have a few good hotels and aren't in bad parts of town, they just have some run down ones too.

So while I am in town and around my music schedule I am planning to catch some NCAA basketball games and take an early Saturday ride down to Tail of the Dragon/Deals Gap. Any advice regarding these plans or recommendations for downtown sports watching place with lots of tvs?

There's a brand new sports bar (actually it was just a makeover and name change) on Gay Street about 2 blocks South of the Tennessee Theatre. I haven't been to it yet, but I've heard fantastic things about it. It's called Sky Box. There's also a great place on Market Square called Latitude 35. I go there for games a lot. It's got a ton of TVs (8 per room, 2 rooms), so you can watch a lot of action at once. I go there for brunch a lot during NFL season to keep up with all my fantasy players at once. Plus I know a lot of the staff there, so I can usually get a discount on a mimosa or two.
Outside of downtown, there are a couple good sports bars in Fort Sanders just across World's Fair Park. It's not too far, I walk from campus to downtown and back a few times a week. The Hill (my favorite bar in town) is the closest- it's literally across the street from the edge of the park. It's also got really fantastic food, including the best wings and fries in town (IMO), and has good specials (half off champagne bottles on Sunday). Another couple blocks down is The Strip, which is a line of bars that marks the border between UT campus and The Fort, which is basically a student ghetto of beautiful old Victorian homes that college students rent and trash (this is where I live). The Strip's scene is decidedly more college, which can be a good or a bad depending on your tastes. I'd definitely recommend the Half Barrel- it's a pretty standard bar with a nice (heated) patio and has a lot of TVs. It's the best bar-style food around other than The Hill. Sunspot is at the far end of the Strip, and it has the best food in Knoxville. However, the downstairs only has 1 TV. Upstairs there's a bar with about 6 TVs and a huge patio. If the weather sucks, though, then you probably won't be able to find a good seat at the bar to watch games though. There's also Cool Beans a block off the Strip on Lake Drive. The food isn't as great, but it's a pretty standard bar and has a fair amount of TVs.
