Either of those fucking Fridays look awesome. I'd do Whoreshack's though with Hecker and also Wareham over Ribot (unless I knew Dean wasn't doing any Galaxie 500 songs, but he always does). Plus I bet he still closes with New Order's Ceremony and since my Peter Hook at MOEMS dreams have been dashed, that would be good medicine.
So while I am in town and around my music schedule I am planning to catch some NCAA basketball games and take an early Saturday ride down to Tail of the Dragon/Deals Gap. Any advice regarding these plans or recommendations for downtown sports watching place with lots of tvs?
There's a brand new sports bar (actually it was just a makeover and name change) on Gay Street about 2 blocks South of the Tennessee Theatre. I haven't been to it yet, but I've heard fantastic things about it. It's called Sky Box. There's also a great place on Market Square called Latitude 35. I go there for games a lot. It's got a ton of TVs (8 per room, 2 rooms), so you can watch a lot of action at once. I go there for brunch a lot during NFL season to keep up with all my fantasy players at once. Plus I know a lot of the staff there, so I can usually get a discount on a mimosa or two.
Outside of downtown, there are a couple good sports bars in Fort Sanders just across World's Fair Park. It's not too far, I walk from campus to downtown and back a few times a week. The Hill (my favorite bar in town) is the closest- it's literally across the street from the edge of the park. It's also got really fantastic food, including the best wings and fries in town (IMO), and has good specials (half off champagne bottles on Sunday). Another couple blocks down is The Strip, which is a line of bars that marks the border between UT campus and The Fort, which is basically a student ghetto of beautiful old Victorian homes that college students rent and trash (this is where I live). The Strip's scene is decidedly more college, which can be a good or a bad depending on your tastes. I'd definitely recommend the Half Barrel- it's a pretty standard bar with a nice (heated) patio and has a lot of TVs. It's the best bar-style food around other than The Hill. Sunspot is at the far end of the Strip, and it has the best food in Knoxville. However, the downstairs only has 1 TV. Upstairs there's a bar with about 6 TVs and a huge patio. If the weather sucks, though, then you probably won't be able to find a good seat at the bar to watch games though. There's also Cool Beans a block off the Strip on Lake Drive. The food isn't as great, but it's a pretty standard bar and has a fair amount of TVs.
This is a great run down. The only thing I would add is that Latitude 35's food is terrible in my opinion. I agree with the Hill as a good place to go however I found it difficult to find/park at my first time there.

I've seen Hecker a few times, thus far. He's absolutely incredible live (and I'm sure I'll be pissed if I miss it). They teased Instrumental Tourist a few weeks ago. Probably means nothing, but that would shoot high on my list. Mergia was a new discovery for me. I can't pass that up just yet.
Wareham vs. Ribot is a toss up, imo. I've seen both, but Ceramic Dog doesn't get down this way much. Wareham, I'm betting I get another shot this year.

Great tips all around! I'm going to try to stick downtown though I know the park isn't all that far off. The wings brag may be enough to lure me over there at some point during the weekend! Otherwise I had scouted out Downtown Grill & Brewery due to its proximity and recalling from a previous visit there were a decent number of tv sets but more than that there was a good selection of homebrew and which were more than reasonably priced. That was a few years ago before the craft brew movement took off so I don't know how things might have changed since then. Any opinion of that spot?
I gotta plug Fort Sanders Yacht club, between the Goodwill and Chipotles on the edge of the strip. Place is small, but usually has good music and a laid back atmosphere.

Woah, weird! I'm on the phone with a friend on the strip and he just said (seriously as soon as I clicked on this thread), "Yacht club is POPPING! What is going on there tonight?"

I wouldn't doubt it that it's Poppng. The Yacht club is my favorite bar ever.

The Yacht Club is awesome! I definitely recommend it. It's seriously under a block from my house. If you go, see if Cole is working. He is Fine Peduncle, if the name rings a bell (he played Moogfest once and Roo once).
Downtown Grill and Brewery is overrated, in my opinion. I think their beer is mediocre, at best (although it is cheap). It tastes like they don't clean something properly somewhere along the way, and I always get really bad headaches even after just a few of their beers. The atmosphere and food are good, though. Also, the first mimosa with your Sunday brunch is only 25 cents, which is awesome.

I caught Cole at Prespub after the pride parade and see him at Java often. I gotta check that place out. Downtown Grill and Brewery has some great food but I don't care for their brews at all. I so didn't know that about their mimosas. BTW Check out Knox Mason on Gay street. They are a little pricey but great food and they have a beermosa that's great. If you wear a band shirt you get free coffee on certain days

I'm beginning to worry that Jonny Greenwood's Saturday performance will be late night at the Tennessee Theatre after Television wraps up which is disappointing since I'm only planning on staying overnight Friday-Saturday then driving back home (3 hours) at midnight. I have to work on Sunday afternoon so that limits my options as well. Guess we'll know for sure on Tuesday.

I feel your pain. I've got commitments Friday and Saturday evening, and since I'll be driving in every day from Johnson City (2 hours), it's likely that I may miss about half the festival. Reeeeeally need that schedule.
But I can wait till next Tuesday. Then, we're gonna get on the ball and organize meetups. Right? Right.

I was talking to a guy during lunch today. He owns a local music store, and he was telling me that he along with others are trying to organize an instrument/effect pedal/synth/etc. demo/swap meet/sale at the Pilot Light for the Friday and Saturday daytime during Big Ears. He said it isn't worked out 100% yet, but I thought I would put it here in case anyone was interested.

Jonny Greenwood solo on Saturday has also been dropped. When they moved the Saturday schedule earlier I was thinking they were going to slot it in after the Wordless Orchestra covers show similar to how Susanna is doing Velvet Underground songs before John Cale but now looks like there won't be one at all. At least my Saturday midnight dilemma is solved but what a way.

Friends, I'm sorry that I'm coming at you so late with this, but are there any Knoxville folk would would be able to put me up for just Friday night? Futon, couch, even a floor is fine. I'm still making my plans, but right now I'm considering that it would be better to stay in town that night rather than go the 2 hours home, then back the next morning in time for the noon shows. It would definitely be only Friday evening, though, if that helps. Plus, I have good hygiene and I don't steal... except your heart.

Actually, yes, I can help you out. My friend who was living on my couch when all the buzz about this started up is no longer on my couch, so it's open.
Seeing as how the most elusive Inforoosters are attending, this may go unnoticed. Gonna start that phone tree. If you wanna be added just pm your number.
For any of you that think you have mine, I bet you don't. I switched up a few months ago.
