I have always hated that I never got to go to one of these... I think I was very close to going in either 08 or 09, the lineup that year was one of the most bangin lineups I had seen at that time.
Big Ears a cool festival, and it offers more than just music for the die-hard fan. They had panel discussions on music & industry topics, etc. One of my colleagues was a panelist (she teaches rhetoric, which I hate, so I tuned out when she told me about her topic) after being personally invited by AC. Apparently the panelists got to hang w/the likes of Sufjan, The National, and other artists.

This is Exciting. Big Ears was brilliant. Knoxville sucks right now IMO, though. Someone said the Valarium is going to be country/80's rock music artists when it reopens. I don't like NV as the new spot for midnight voyage, either.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm a whiny little b!tch and I'm sick of my hometown.

The article I read in the Metro Pulse last month said that they were going to book country and such there because they felt the Valarium got too focused on EDM/Metal which caused them to miss out on acts that could have made them some money. The thing that has me worried is that I read that article in December, and I have not heard anything else about the place opening at all. Not even so much as a facebook.

The only shows I've been going to recently are ones on the hill or 90 proof. Knoxville is certainly lacking in good venues. I've yet to go to one of the ones at NV but plan on it next week.
I'd love to see AC put big ears back on but I fear Knoxville won't be the setting.
The Blackstock (formerly The Valarium) will not be booking only country. In fact, they would be having WhiteChapel there if it were ready next week. Now it's gonna be at NV, as is everything else until The Blackstock is ready. Then Midnite Voyage will go back to the Stock as well. All kinds of music will be there and The Cider House will also feature shows and will probably offer more food. Shouldn't this be in the Knoxville thread? Is there a Knoxville thread? Ashley is saying that he wants to keep BIG EARS in Knoxville as you see in that interview, so don't worry too much about it for now. Do any of you frequent the pub? There are good shows there almost every night. We brought Fly Golden Eagle (played Roo last year) there just last month.

I saw Cristabel and the Jons there a few months ago. I might just not be in the loop as far as shows there. I did see a pretty good band at Barley's last night. Not worrying about Big Ears too much especially since that was written just a short while ago. I know at the brunch we had with AC at Moog, when asked about keeping Big Ears in Knoxville they mentioned how the way knoxville is laid out is one of their big problems. Also, I don't think there is a Knoxville thread. That might be a good idea to keep each other up to date on shows playing in the area.

Yes except it wouldn't be the UT arena more than likely. It'd be the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theatre, Pilot Light, NV and maybe Relix or Valarium. The last two are kind of iffy since they would be a pain to get to from the others.

I talked to Mitch (Valarium manager) the other day, he said not to worry and "Blackstock" will play electro and everything else still. It opens sometime in FEB.
