Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
So I'm bored. That and a convergence of factors means that its time for the future of Inforoo™ to emerge now, not later.
Reference:
C) ... More robust profiles, large scale video chat, original content, etc. All this takes money to get up and running. ... Inforoo Social is intended as a temporary name until we got the new front page up and running and integrated with proboards at which point it would become the Inforoo homepage....
This is your opportunity to let us know what you'd like to see in Inforoo's next generation home. What do you like from other sites, message boards, blogs, and social networks? What drives you nuts? What are your original ideas on how a website like this can kick @$$?Any and all ideas are welcome.*I hope to get the majority of the work done of the weekend so get to it; this could be fun!
Legalese: *please note that we cannot accept any confidential ideas nor any ideas that require royalties or other any other type of compensation...
Will try to get a few min-oots and check it out this weekend. Only immediate comment is I hate the navigation (or lack there of) of FB. Dont be like that!
What features would you like (chat, video chat, news articles, better profiles)? If you could reinvent this site, or pack up all your friends here and take them someplace easier on the eyes, easier to use, more USEFUL to you, what would it look like? ANYTHING is game, I'l want to hear any and all suggestions. Screenshots, links, diagrams, and videos are welcome.

Some of these very well might exist:
1. A dashboard for favorite user activity 2. More entries on the newest thread page 3. A way to mark everything in the newest thread as read 4. Someone to come to my house and notify me whenever Insider posts 5. A way to load photos directly, rather than loading them to a third party site and pasting the link 6. An imbedded turntable.fm style room
Also, I think Inforoo could benefit from a dedicated Archive section. Lineups for every year, key dates, fest maps, etc.
I like this one. I think it's a good idea to maybe have some kind of subforum/subsection for that kind of info and possibly talk that is specific to that year. Right now you just have to go digging through the years in the board so something like this could be helpful.
If anyone has legitimate questions about the future of inforoo, youre welcome to start a new thread.
I'd say, yes, Bacon, you're the only one who thinks we shouldn't screw with it. Change is scary, I get it. That's why we want everyone's input and feedback. If you have questions about this, start a thread in the washboard and we'll do our best to answer. The more you are involved in this transition, the easier it will be to adjust. So yes, the change will probably occur but we will do everything we can to make it easy on all of you.

I seem to remember different when the issue was last raised.
And yes change is scary, especially when 1 (and now maybe 2) of the people doing the changing are not a part of the community.
I have a very concrete and very relevant example for you. Earlier this summer when My Morning Jacket changed companies of who ran their fan site and club one of the changes they made was creating a new different message board. They even modded 4 of the oldest most respected members and asked for their advice and then managed to ignore almost everything that was suggested and created a message board that was the definition of awful. Everytime someone would post insulting the new format the post was deleted. Posting dropped way off and people started posted on a new fan created facebook page and forum. Now after 3 months of struggle they brought back the old forum and look like a bunch of idiots even though much of the other parts of business have been much better than the old company.
One thing I've noticed is the columns on the left are a little cluttered. If I was new here and was looking for the links with basic newbie info, I think there would be a good chance I would over look them. At least at first.
I would suggest maybe reorganizing them a little. Like possible a separate box starting with were Bonnaroo Survival Guides is underlined and the appropriate links. And maybe moving that info a little further up on the page. As it is now, it's parallel with the area showing what users are online.
I know nothing about web design, so sorry if this sounds preachy. I just feel it might help new people to have that info stick out a little more.

Apparently this is me whining and providing a useless anecdote so I will elaborate.
On the My Morning Jacket forum one of the things they tried to do was create a social network type environment on top of the forum. Something about the name Inforoo Social makes me think you want something similar. The change included such things as expanded profiles, user blogs, friending people and so on. The features were clunky and annoying. No one needs a bad facebook rip-off when we are all already friends on facebook (which is true both here and there).
The new features were on a whole not used at all. And the changes in the profile caused all kinds of problems.
Yes I know just because one forum did it wrong does not necessarily mean you will do it wrong. But, I guarantee if you try to do it over a weekend because you were bored and through some shiz together you will do some major damage.

*The top-of-page Google search has been INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. Great improvement; don't change a thing about that!
*Direct image posting without having to host offsite would be nice...not sure how feasible.
*We already have an Inforoo chat; don't see much need to have a chat function on the actual boards. But hey, try it & it might be a hit!
*The "most liked post" is an interesting concept. It could be useful for quick scanning (think news headlines) instead of wading thru 100 Most Recent Topics or individual threads.
*Member profiles: what if they were more of a customizable home page where you could link your favorite threads and get a mouse-over/drop-down of just the latest posts in the threads you frequent most?
That's all for now. May have more suggestions once nocturnal beer brain becomes daytime coffee brain.
Adam added a new one a while back. Must not have worked out well?
Google search box on the top of every page. Joel and I put it up. Where can it be improved?
Haha. I'm on crack. I remember talking to you about it when you did it and for some reason I completely forgot that was a custom search box while I was away from the boards for awhile. My bad.

Also... when the new changes are rolled out, can we maybe possibly consider changing the title of the New User Introduction thread? The gender-specific "himself" part kinda irks the Grammar Goddess in a "not terribly important/more of a pet peeve" kind of way.
Basically something a little more formal than the board. Have a base "staff" of writers and then others can submit stuff for consideration as well. I see it being mostly album reviews, concert reviews, opinion pieces on music and whatever people feel compelled to write about. Kind of like the stuff Consequence of Sound does minus the news stuff.
