I've always said Ultra had the best production value of any festival in the country, and they upped the ante even more this year. It really was just mind blowing how much they put into the lighting and aesthetics.
They fixed most of the problems from past years. The tent that became an oven last year got lifted in to a high reaching arch. They finally added water stations. I heard alot of complaints about people not finding them- they weren't labeled on the maps. But once I located them I used them all weekend and it saved me the $100 in water I had to spend in past years. The lines to get in were much shorter. I never waited more than 10-15 minutes, as opposed to 45-60 last year. Also I think they upgraded the cell towers. I remember having reception problems in the past, but everything went fine this year.
Dog Blood killed it. It's funny to watch BN and Skrillz on stage as they have very different personas. Skrillz is all over the place and very vocal while BN is very quiet and focused on the music. At once point I saw him pat skrillex on the shoulder and pointed down at the soundboard, I just imagined him saying "quit dancing and pay attention to the fucking soundboard"
Boys Noize really really killed it in his solo set though. Easily my favorite of the weekend. Don't miss him at Bonnaroo.
Skrillex also played a secret set on the OWSLA stage with Porter Robinson and Alvin Risk (I hear Zedd popped in too) I caught the end of it, it was really cool because there were maybe only 100 people there while everyone else was at Mau5, completely unaware.
Was it just me, or did anyone else hear the beginnings of a couple train wrecks during the deadmau5 set...he controlled it pretty well, but I definitely heard some mismatched beats

This was definitely due to the live feed. When they would change cameras into the crowd, they would splice the sound together, causing an echo bassline when the delay of the crowd shots mixed with the main line-in.

I'm pretty excited to sit around and watch the feed again this weekend. Ultra is definitely a dream fest for me. I really hope I can make it there one day. It's just so expensive, and right in the heart of tax season.

By the way, as an afterthought, I just want to re-affirm how hard Crystal castles suck. I remember them somehow being some of my favorite performances at Bonnaroo 2009 and Ultra 2009 just for their raw energy. They sounded terrible but I figured it was technical issues. Having seen them at various festivals 6 times now I am positive it is not technical issues at all, they just sound really really terrible live. I only stayed for 10 minutes

Just got home from one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I had an AMAZING time at Ultra (Weekend 2)! Almost everyone I saw there absolutely killed it. It was so much fun the entire time. I honestly can't think of a single compliant about the fest itself, aside from crowds (which hindered getting water, bathrooms, and just walking around), but I don't think that's anything Ultra could have helped. I could go on about each set, but I'll post my top 10 of the weekend:
1. Swedish House Mafia (Legendary, amazing show) 2. Deadmau5 (Killer stage show, and just a stellar vibe) 3. The Bloody Beetroots (These guys floored me, was not expecting that) 4. Major Lazer (Just so much fun, and they did an amazing Harlem Shake) 5. David Guetta (Surprised the crap out of me, he didn't rely on his hits and he sounded killer) 6. Alesso (Third time seeing him and by far the best, I think this set will move him to the next level, it was that good) 7. Thievery Corporation (Great vibe with these guys, and a great distraction from the oontz) 8. Sleigh Bells (I didn't like them before this set, but they absolutely brought it) 9. Boys Noize (Sweet show, and will be tons of fun at Roo. Very slightly disappointing but I still enjoyed it) 10. Modestep (Awesome new band I wasn't familiar with, as I enjoy EDM played with live instruments)
Everyone else I got to catch was also stellar (for the most part). In total I also got to see Avicii (for like 15 minutes), Bassnectar (who probably would have been higher if I saw more than 20 minutes), Rusko, Disclosure, Chuckie, Calvin Harris, Porter Robinson (his Roo set will be killer), Above and Beyond (for 30 minutes), Snoop Dogg and Armin Van Buuren(for like 15 minutes each). I was bummed that I had to miss Capital Cities, Matt and Kim, and Clockwork though.
If anyone has any questions about the fest I'd be happy to answer, for those who are curious.

I have this bad feeling I'm going to buy a lot of blind presale tickets to fests I can't justify next year on the hope that Daft Punk shows up on on the lineup.
Oh, and Ultra was amazing. I was up at 5 this morning to fly back for work, so my brain is mushy and I'm crazy tired, but it was a great experience for me. Musically, it's probably a bit of an EDM overload for someone like me who leans more toward rock and pop, but the Live Stage was a big draw for me and didn't disappoint (especially Thievery Corporation!)
Overall, the complete experience was excellent, and I made awesome memories with some close friends who were first time festival-goers. As so often happens, the people made the festival for me, in many ways. I met dozens of friendly people who embraced our mutual sweatiness and stickiness as we danced like crazy people.
The setup is not perfect because routing causes a lot of traffic convergence near the major stages, and the layout is congested with so many stages in such a small area, but it was still a great time. Only other complaint is that the app is terrible and Ultra does a poor job of informing festival goers about water stations, stage name changes (gets very confusing after drinking, etc for a few hours).

I saw a bunch of good stuff early each day, but the crowds were so small and disinterested it sort of killed the status of those sets just a bit.
Not sure if you were asking me, but I did GA. I will say, getting in was a breeze. Even GA. I'd heard horror stories but it didn't take longer than 10-15 minutes any day.
I'm curious to hear how VIP was this year and if its worth it. If I go, I'm most likely do VIP as I have a feeling the massive amounts of annoying raver kids would ruin my vibe.
