Yeow. I figured I had more time to figure out my lodging situation. Looks like all campgrounds are booked though, and cheapest hotel I can find is going to run me $800 for the weekend.
What is everyone else doing for lodging? Any recommendations?
Start dating someone from Rhode Island, then stay at her place.
The only thing that would make me more excited for this festival would be if The Postal Service could be booked (which I know is impossible). They're the only non-folk act I really care to see this summer (and I can only do one festival in a given year).
Newport has said that they've asked Mumford to play many times and they've always turned them down. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Yeah this is true and Jay Sweet who runs Newport is not the biggest fan. Jay talks about the bands that play Newport and says that to play they really have to want to play. I don't see this being Mumford. There is a great community at Newport and especially now at the level Mumford are at I can't see it happening. I'm almost positive Newport even posted something saying "Mumford is not happening". Personally I don't want them there...I wouldn't go see them even if they were.

Good information.
Well, if Mumford is not the "big" act, any idea who might be at the top of the lineup?
I'm now kind of hoping it's Beck. And I'm also hoping it's not Dylan.
And Jason Isbell appears to be the only act on the Newport Folk Festival SXSW showcase yet to be announced for NFF. I would consider him a lock for that reason.
NFF has repeat performers more often than other fests so who was there last year certainly doesn't automatically knock them off the list of potentials.
Mumfords aren't happening. Dawes, Head&Heart, and Tallest Man were all there last year. MMJ was there too, but I think Jim James could happen.
Mumsons and Tallest Man were the biggest reaches on my hopefuls. Mumsons because of the reasons addressed in this thread. Tallest Man because he was there last year and doesn't really have anything new (although, he will be touring the US at least in the beginning of summer with Sasquatch).
However, Dawes and Head and the Heart both have new material coming out soon. And as was said, NFF does seem to frequently book repeat acts.
For today? I can't see anything newer than yesterday's Nicki Bluhm add (the first act I don't really know and haven't been able to get into after a play of her album).
I've never been able to get into Jason Isbell's solo stuff. But maybe I just haven't given him a shot. I did like the video for Alabama Pines posted on his introduction on NFF's website.
