Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Just bought my 2 day pass for this festival. Not sure about buying a single for Friday yet. I would love to have some ideas what band/s will be on Friday before shelling out $50. Unfortunately, this probably means no Roo for me this year (it didn't fit in with schedules as well; which sucks because the rumors are looking great for Roo)
Over the next few weeks I will likely be posting random questions to you NFF vets.. I will be a Newport first timer so any information you can volunteer would be great.
First question: What can you tell me about these Deer Tick night shows?
Also, I am 100% on (bands I want to see)/(bands announced so far).
Deer Tick night shows are at the Newport Blues Cafe. They do an after NFF show fri, sat, sun. You need to stalk NBC for info and but tickets Immediately upon sale as its a small venue and they go FAST! Lots of sits ins from the NFF line-up. The others can tell you more about the actual doing. I passed last year and drove our rain soaked quack clubbers home.
Are you guys local to Newport? If not, when you go, do you camp or get a hotel? If so, any campsite recommendations, cheap hotel recommendations, or tips on picking a place?
Also, while I'm still on a kick from buying my tickets, some are some of my predictions on who we'll see rounding out the lineup (based on new albums; expected summer tours):
Mumford and Sons Jim James Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite Dawes She & Him Father John Misty Lord Huron You Won't Wake Owl

My apologies for a triple post, but has Ryan Adams played NFF before? NFF's Facebook page "liked" him; but when I searched Ryan Adams and Newport Folk Festival I couldn't find any links to old lineups with him on them.

NE is too busy buying milk and bread to prep for the 2 ft of snow tomorrow/saturday. Smokes, booze, pet food - check. Generator/snowblower/fuel Check. We are ready and hunkered in.
My plan is to drive from Pittsburgh. A) I have yet to really see New England outside of Boston so I look forward to the sights along the way B) It's about an hour shorter than my trip to Bonnaroo, which I usually drive to.

Ok - I've been trying to figure out my which fest should be my final add of the 2013 summer, and after scouring the boards for the past hour or two about NFF/QC 2012, I am seriously leaning toward NFF 2013! All the people involved seem like such good people that regardless of the rest of the lineup (which looks great so far), the trip seems worth it.
How soon do y'all think I'd need to buy my tickets (2-day + Friday)? I don't want to be indecisive, but Rhode Island isn't exactly nearby!

That's pretty unclear as they've never sold out on full fest passes this early before and they haven't even dropped the full lineup yet. I would expect that you will be able to find tickets on reseller sites until the fest. Be aware the venue has a small capacity compared to most other fests so it could get tough and/or expensive depending on how good the final lineup is.

Mumford is not happening. NFF has a really small budget and unless artist really want to play and take a huge pay cut they don't get people like that. I wouldn't want them there anyway. Father John is playing. Dawes will be there one way or another. I think they are doing a 3 show run at this theater in Newport at night. JJ is probably going to be there..he's on the committee and is one of the artists who just plays because he loves it..not for the money.

Ryan Adams has never played. He rarely does festivals in fact. I'd love to see him there but prob not ever going to happen.
There really are no cheap hotels in Newport. You have to go outside the town a lot further away and most hotels are booked. I think there are a few camps but pretty far away.
Deer Tick late night shows make the fest for me..best thing you will see all weekend.

But, of course, the resellers will get pricey. I forget what time is sold out last year, but it was significantly earlier than in the past (May?). If you have the funds, pick up a ticket- at least the two day. The Friday will last longer. You can always sell it, and considering the InfoFolk group we have, I bet you can even just sell it to someone on here and not have to worry about Stubhub.
In other news:
BREAKING NEWS Ummm, so .... thanks to you all, your Newport Folk festival just won BEST FESTIVAL @ the Pollstar awards in LA (aka Live Music's Grammys) Take a bow... you deserve it!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Newport has said that they've asked Mumford to play many times and they've always turned them down. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Yes, but Lumineers turned down Newport last year (if I heard correctly) and are playing this year. I think there are a lot of reasons why bands may have to turn down an offer, not just necessarily due to money/etc.
Also, if a band has to take a pay cut to play Newport, it's probably especially necessary that NFF fits perfectly into their schedule that year.
I just remember in a "Who do you want at Newport?" facebook post a couple months ago, a shitload of people asked for Mumford, and the page itself replied in the comments saying they've reached out to them multiple times, and everytime got turned down, so not to get hopes up. If the festival itself says they doubt they're going to get them, it makes me think there's something else going on.
I think with Mumford last year, they had their own festival about three hours to the north a week later - why would they play Newport on top of that considering the proximity.
I still think the odds of them going are slim to nil. They can sell out the Boston Garden, and that can hold more people than Newport.

Doesn't Jimmy Buffett sell out amphitheatres and he was booked for Newport.
I know I'm going to be a first timer going to this festival, so my beliefs should be rightfully discounted. But I don't think it's impossible for a band who two-years-ago took a train across the southwest stopping in the unlikeliest of towns for the love of the music to take a pay cut to play a festival with a ton of history.
Yeow. I figured I had more time to figure out my lodging situation. Looks like all campgrounds are booked though, and cheapest hotel I can find is going to run me $800 for the weekend.
What is everyone else doing for lodging? Any recommendations?

There are extremely reasonable options available if you are not a summer's breeze, play well with others, don't have allergies to animals, and generally get along with the folks in this thread.

This could be a problem for me as well.

Do you know which campgrounds those are? I found campgrounds about 45 minutes away that are still available. Not sure whether to jump on those or wait until April 1 (if this is true).
