I think I read something about them just being musicians he knows and has played with but not anyone famous or well-known. Can't remember if that was in a recent article or on the MMJ Boards.
Apologies if this has already been reported, but I haven't seen it yet. For those shut out of the other NY shows, there are seats still left for the Tibetan House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall on February 21st. Here's the bill:
Performers Philip Glass, Artistic Director Jim James Rahzel Patti Smith Tune-Yards

Thank you. I thought I was going crazy - read the same thing somewhere and now can't remember where or who he said. I want to say he referred to musicians back in Kentucky who he used to work with or something.
HOWEVER - MoF or New Multitudes alumni would be great.

Tom - he had two pieces recently in magazines I get. One small one in Rolling Stone and a slightly longer one in Relix. I believe it was one of those....if not it must have been on the MMJ forum somewhere.

I'm thinking one of Jim's old pals is Johnny Quaid from the early MMJ days. He popped up last year at Forecastle too. (I think it was Forecastle? On second thought, may have been somewhere else)
Johnny brought the pain on the original One Big Holiday and I wouldn't be surprised if he was rocking out for us at Roo with JIM!

I'm pretty sure it was the Forecastle show from last year. The same one with the Bananas song. I bet Ben Sollee is somehow involved with Jim's project too.

Yeah, Quaid came out for Run Thru and One Big Holiday at Forecastle.
Also, am I the only one who is fighting the urge to read way too much into the phrase "new adventure with some old pals"?
I didn't want to bring it up, but I've been fixated on what that could mean since he answered that question.
Who are these pals, Jim? WHO!?
Okay - found it. It was from Rolling Stone:
James enjoyed the opportunity to record with other musicians. "One of my childhood friends, who was in the first band I was ever in, plays drums on most of the record," he says. "Now I'm trying to put the band together to go on tour with after it comes out. I'm getting back together with friends I haven't played with in a long time, from home. It's very exciting."
The professor I have who played with Jim years ago that I mentioned earlier told me he still keeps in touch with him. I'll see if he has any idea who these "friends" may be tomorrow.
