Favorite day party: Paradise of Bachelors/WXYC. What a venue/lineup/day. For whatever reason, I decided it would be a good idea to invite my dysfunctional family. They were driving me up a wall, so I took a break (missing Black Twig Pickers and Promised Land Sound, unfortunately), went home, corned up, and came back. Chris Forsyth was incredible. Wish I'd moved down closer. Moved up close for Steve Gunn and it was killer. Also enjoyed Pelt & Daniel Bachmann. I'd never listened to either before, but, man, what a perfect venue.
Really hoping they can make it happen next year. It would be a damn shame to lose this fest.

Was surprised by how poorly Spiritualized was attended. I figured people would at least give them a chance. On the way to the port-o-potties during one song, I had some friends try to get me to go in the photo booth with them, to which I replied "I'm just going to pee, then I'm going back. I'm about to cry this is so good." A bunch of people will never know how good of a set they missed. Easily the best headlining set I've seen at Hopscotch.
Caught On Tape Duo was my the only bad set of the fest I caught (different strokes, I guess.)
Personal top 10: 1. Spiritualized 2. Pontiak (day party) 3. Grouper 4. Angel Olsen 5. Desert Heat (day party) 6. Steve Gunn (day party) 7. Califone 8. Low (would be higher, but I split halfway through to make it in time for Califone, who wound up starting late) 9. Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band 10. Pelt & Daniel Bachman (day party, perfect venue)
What shows were more highly attended than Spiritualized? I figured they were the biggest band there.

Every other headlining set in City Plaza, ever. The crowd was maybe halfway to the sound booth. Very small for a City Plaza set. It really cleared out after The Breeders. Really can't understand why. Their loss.

That's so weird. I would think Hopscotch types were their audience. But, the truth is, my perception of what is popular is so off, I just shouldn't even try to guess anymore. I'm constantly surprised at levels of attendance at our local shows.
