OK, it's been a few days, but I want to say how much I enjoyed this past weekend. It was difficult with my post surgery knees; I was seriously questioning myself 15 minutes after entering the fest, but it all worked out. I didn't get to see everything I had planned to see, but that's how those things go. Having the hill between the two main stages was huge for me. SK needs to work on their ADA program, but I am hopeful they will do so. At least the medics were happy to supply me with ice packs.
My favorite set hands down was Ryan Adams (shocker!) and dancing while crying with LoveLuckLaughter during Come Pick Me Up was the most special moment of my weekend. I missed out on that at NFF, and well, the timing was right this go around. In so many ways.
It was amazing to see so many people I just adore. People I have had the joy of spending time with before, and people I finally got to meet. Old friends and new. Festivals have become that for me. A place to reconnect with the people I hold dear. Seeing great acts is the icing on the cake.
C. “Festival Dates” shall mean the following periods of proprietary ticketed attendance at the Music Fest as the context requires: “2015 Festival Dates” shall mean May 14-17, 2015. “2016 Festival Dates” shall mean May 12- 15, 2016. “2017 Festival Dates” shall mean May 18- 21, 2017. “2018 Festival Dates” shall mean May 17- 20, 2018. “2019 Festival Dates” shall mean May 16- 19, 2019. “2020 Festival Dates” shall mean May 14- 17, 2020.
Yep, my dad talked to their lead singer at Roo and he had told me this yesterday. Also, I think they'll be one of the LN shows
Way to kill the high this thread's been on for the past week. Good job.
Haha, I think their music is fine enough. That being said, I highly doubt I'll make it to their set at the fest due to conflicts/getting close for other shows and I DEFINITELY won't be at their late show because I'll be at Terminal West or the Masquerade

At this point I think I'd like to try Shaky Knees, Roo, and NFF next year. Maybe Coachella instead of Shaky Knees depending on work, money, and lineups.
Would it be weird if I skipped my graduation in 2017 for Shaky Knees? I'm thinking no
It'd be weird if you skipped Shaky Knees for your graduation.
I didn't walk when I graduated, just didn't mean that much to me. Why would I want to sit around for hours in an auditorium to spend 30 seconds to walk across a stage? Idk, just never seemed like a big deal to me.

I walked at my graduation but mainly for my parents. I would have been fine skipping that. It was mostly a day full of waiting and being shuffled around from lines to chairs to more lines. The celebration with family was fun, though.

I agree with Rothric. I didn't walk for my graduation, either - the only way I might do it is if I get a Master's degree or something. It just seems like a lot of pomp and circumstance - there's no way I'd skip something like a music festival for that.
Edit: Just wear graduation robes to Shaky Knees and invite your family to go with you. Problem solved.

I think Shaky Knees and Newport is the best bang-for-the-buck duo of festivals out there. Couldn't do SK this year (and am trying NFF/Pickathon combo) but next year look forward to getting back to SK. Glad to hear it was a big success again this year.

Yea, the travel and time off for SK has made it tough for me the past few years but I always want to go. Plus, I always had Roo and NFF in my festival schedule anyway so money/time was dedicated to that.
It took me a long time to graduate (7 years), so I walked for me because I felt like I deserved all the hooplah of a formal graduation. However, once I found out I got into grad school I didn't really want to walk anymore but did anyway because I knew my mom was looking forward to it. My graduation also only took like 1 hour because my program was the first called.
I don't regret walking though. It made it finally feel real, so I'm actually really happy I did. I'll probably walk for my masters again too, but if it conflicts with something I wouldn't be heartbroken to skip it. I did it once and that's good enough for me.
In other words, if SK had been the same weekend as my graduation this year I probably would've skipped my graduation, not SK.
What was everybody favorite moment *music related* of the weekend? Mine had to be at Terminal West during Spiritualized when they played Come Together. I look up from getting my face melted to see Dave Maynar rocking out and have Son of a Beek saying "this is fucking awesome". Everything was right with the world.
When Jeff Tweedy blew a snot bubble during Hummingbird. But really, Spiritualized was amazing.
Special shout out to SFA for spending all day with me and taking LLL, Phi & myself around Atlanta. It was cool to see the city and a few Walking Dead filming locations.
How could you forget the true highlight of the weekend? The guy beating a tire with a sledgehammer.
Dave Maynar - good times at Mitski and Speedy Ortiz among others and with you and the member FKA superfurryanimal at Panda Bear.
I'm still here El Guapo! It was great to see you again and meet your better half. I do think you are wrong about one thing. Pomegranate Lemonade or GTFO!

Had a great time, everyone!! I apologize to those who were forced to see me rolling around naked, or worse. I apologize to the Sheraton for "fucking it all up". I apologize to the city of Atlanta for breaking any public nudity laws. I apologize to Bacon for molesting his sexy man bun, but you're lucky that's all I accosted. do not apologize for loving you all.
Highlights: Wilco. Duh. And the setlist. Yes! Ryan Adams. Duh. Sniff. METZ. Fuck yeah!! Tame Impala. Spiritualized late night acid recreation.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Also, a huge highlight for me was having to interact with Uber drivers while I was on another plane of existence. Some of the situations were just so hilarious to me that I was struggling to hold my composure. I am just happy I could give them some funny stories to share with their friends about "this guy who was on so many druqs" haha.
And yeah SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal I have no idea how I didn't see a bunch of y'all because most of us wanted to see a lot of the same shows. I feel like it's nearly impossible that I didn't see at least a couple inforoosters around the grounds/at latenights at Terminal.
For instance, was anybody at the Spiritualized show kinda in the middle of the crowd and during the second half of the show there were a bunch of teenagers/kids in their early 20's being pretty loud/a lot more rambunctious than the rest of the crowd? Because I was just to the left of those kids and a lot of the show I was standing with my face aimed down wearing grey pants and an '96 Atlanta Olympics sweater.

There was a big group of us at Spiritualized to the right of the stage in front of the bar

Ahhh, I had a spot in the middle of the crowd and I just planted myself there and swayed with my eyes closed nearly all of the set. I must have walked through all y'all without realizing it because I walked one of my friends to the restroom cause she didn't know where it was.
