Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
Hi folks, got my money today. Would like to see MMJ but, i am already booked for Tom Petty. Took me a few days to get over bonnaflu. I'd just like to take a second to thank Dream and Dutins for the hospitality they showed me. Folks, I love you both and hope to spend more time with you all next year. I will vol again. I just got flustered this yr because of lack of organization. For those of you that had bad shifts, they seem to take care of prior vols. I was Silent Auction and didn't have to miss any shows I wanted to see. Next yr the folks that want to meet need to start a little earlier and have a back-up plan. I hope all who volunteered liked it, it is fun to see both sides of the spectrum.

It took us forever to get parked, actually. They turned us away from the staff lot 3 times saying "We're sorry, it's backed up and we can't let you in." I was thinking..."WTF they better have a place for us to camp!!" So finally on the last try the guy says to us, "Well we can't let you in unless you already have a campsite." My boyfriend looks at him and says, "Fine. We have a campsite," even though we had a car obviously loaded down with stuff! So they let us through and finally we got parked and camped at about 5! It was a huuuuge hassle! We weren't exactly in "Staff Lot B" though, we were in the spillover by the fence...which was nice because it was much roomier, plus we had some way cool neighbors that we hung out with all weekend!
I still haven't gotten my $$ back hoping that comes soon!
same thing happened to us.. we ended up in the actual lot because our prefest friends saved us space. The green chevy voyager van in the overflow was ours
after reading this thread my boyfriend and i have decided to volunteer next year. I have been the last 4 years and he has been 5. This will be our first year volunteering and we are really excited and had a few questions. i didn't see much about bringing an RV to staff camping? and I was curious where staff camping ended up being this year? Also how easy was it to work with someone? We are hopefully going to work pre-fest to make bonnaroo start early!
If you have an RV, I imagine they would be more than willing to accomodate you. I didn't stay in the staff camping area, but I think it is right next to VIP outside of What Stage. It is very easy to work with others, although I had differences with a few of my co-volunteers.
Thanks! i wasn't sure if the staff camping had limited space. Do you have to stay in staff camping if you are working? i don't want to miss all the goodies!
Definitely not. As long as you show up to your shifts sober, they're cool. However, if you plan on parking your RV somewhere else, you'll need to contact them prior to Roo and try to work something out. Your parking pass will probably only allow you to have the RV in staff only.

This was my second gig as a vol. In my 2 yrs I've never had problems with other volunteers. The only awkward thing for me was my age. I was old enough to be my supervisors' and co-workers' dad. You can bring an RV to staff, they'll tell you not to. But, you can sneak one in. If I were to do pre-fest, I'd need an an RV. Pre-fest hours are longer and harder. Plus, you're there an extra 3-4 days.
Thanks for all the info! So they will tell me not to bring a RV, but i can? ??? I guess if i got there and they wouldn't let us park it in staff we could always park with everyone else. I'm not sure on how to sneak in a 30 foot RV but we have plenty of time to plan ;D We would love to camp in staff, we have pretty much been all over the map. When do they usually start the application process for this? before or after tickets go on sale?

Usually before. You can check the date I started the thread...I'm pretty sure I started it right around the time I applied (which was the day applications came out). You should definitely volunteer! It's a great opportunity, I had a great experiene and I definitely plan on doing it again.
Staff camping was down near pod 1, but it was really only about a 10 minute walk from the main stage entrance, so it wasn't too bad.
its ok! so the application comes out after tickets go on sale, and then you find out after a couple of weeks? sorry i am just trying to figure everything out so we don't miss out ;D I was wondering if we did bring the RV, they never put RVs down in that area that i have seen, so would they put us some where else?
Volunteering was ok as far as the work went. I did parking passes and vip packages. Everyone was super nice but miscommunication got a few things a bit screwy. The location of staff camping sucked but the showers were so nice!
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.

I agree. Just being able to take a free shower once a day (at least...I saw some vols in there twice or three times) made it totally worth it! It was so nice on Saturday to be able to walk back to camp before PJ and take a hot shower, change clothes and recharge for the headliner and the late nights!

Awww, sweet. I will be there next year, but not to volunteer. Most years I have a good bit of roo company and need to be here for them cooking and such. Did you like volunteering? What were your jobs? I know of some who had 5 hours and one guy who had 36 hours - and it was fairly hard labor... I had 23 hrs. They need to even it up a little.

I feel like we lucked out, but we were during-fest. My boyfriend and I both had the job of artist meet and greet at the nashville airport. We worked 8-2 Thursday and 10-2 Friday, so I didn't even miss anything I wanted to see! We didn't get to meet anybody super big or anything but it was neat, and it was in the air conditioning! Plus, the van ride to Nashville and back counted too
I agree that they should've evened it out more...I had 10 hours and some of our neighbors had 18 and 20...so it's kind of weird...
I worked a total of 18 hours as a POD volunteer, 3 6-hour shifts. My job was mainly to sit at a tent and help anyone who came by for assistance. The work itself was quite dull for me, because the hours stretched on. The people I worked with often analyzed and even criticized visitors who would come by the tent. The perks were nice though, like boxed lunches and a constant supply of cold water.
Okay, so hours were pretty uneven... what were the jobs like, though? I'm thinking of volunteering next year (preferably before or after, but not during), but I don't want to get stuck cleaning out the porta-potties, or something equally as bad.
An outside company takes care of the portopotties so you won't have to worry about that. POD volunteers just chill out underneath tents in various areas of the farm and assist anyone who comes by with questions. Some during-Festival vols do the same thing underneath a tent inside of Centeroo. The most unpleasant job would probably be Clean Vibes - they go around and collect trash on the farm. I'm not sure about Pre-fest.

I'll give you some examples of the jobs that I, my boyfriend, and some of the people I talked to had.
- My boyfriend and I worked with artist transport. We got to meet artists as they got off the planes at the Nashville airport, help them get their luggage, and then we made sure they got on the right van to go to their hotel/the farm/whatever. We didn't get to meet anybody super big but it was a pretty cool gig, and in the A/C no less! - Two of our neighbors worked the Crocs tent in Centeroo. It wasn't air conditioned, but it was shaded. I think they just checked people out. They got free tickets too! - Two more neighbors worked the toll booths, checking people in and giving them wristbands, etc. - One of neighbors worked the access viewing stands at the stages...he was basically helping people on and off it and making sure that no one unauthorized got up there.
So those are a few examples...you could be working the info booth too (I heard of several people doing that), the comedy tent, the jazz tent, etc.
so you did during festival? does anyone have any examples of what the prefestival jobs were like? i really want to goto rothbury also next year. anyone volunteer there?
