So. Im not volunteering this year. Line-up is too good, and too many friends are going this time around. So this year will be a big group event and i am super excited!! Last year it was just me and one other friend, so volunteering really worked out.

Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
Dude, I seriously can't concentrate on anything but bonnaroo right now. . .It's to the point where I'm poking myself in the eye with foreign objects. . . I think I just need to be sedated until Tuesday. . . . Dystopian Dream
Me and my gf really want to volunteer also this year. I was hoping you could answer a couple quick questions
1.Do I need to have a ticket ready or do I just pay whoever when I get there (down payment) Pay thru pay-pal ahead of time.
2.Where do I sign up. Bonnaroo website
3.If I was to volunteer during the fest about how many hours would I do. 4-6 hours 3 of 4 days
4.I seen that they try to pair you up with your friend or whoever, is that true? They'll try.
5.Is there ever to many volunteers that they can turn you away? yep
6.Can you request a time of day to when you volunteer? I'd try during a headliner and i'm sure that most people wouldn't during Phish You can try, don't count on it.
Thank you and some karma goes to whoever answers these!!

Last year there was no way to officially switch...I know of several people that did because they came with a group and the one lucky person had only on-call shifts or something while another person had four shifts, so they split them up equally...but you can only do that if you know you won't get screwed over. That is a lot of money to lose if someone just doesn't show up for their shift! I hope they'll do something a bit more official this year for switching so people don't get screwed over.
I'll sign up for it but if I have to miss to much of what I wanna see then screw the money back.
oh and do they give you a schedule of your shifts right when you get there?
Yes, they give you a schedule when you get there.
And as far as showing up and bailing if you don't get the shifts you want: kinda lame. These are coveted spots. If you get accepted and then decide not to do it once you get there, someone else--whose only chance to go would be through volunteering--would get screwed.

Oh, that would be wrong of me then.. im gonna take the gamble though and just go with it
How long were your shifts and how many shifts did you have? also...what did you do?
I just got one the Parking group and she said we will get there Tuesday, stay in air conditioned tent, but she said we would work about 40 HOURS! Supposed to be a few 12-15 hour shifts. That sounds like a little too much

3. It varies. You may do 3 four hour shifts, you may do 3 six-eight hour shifts. Expect to work at least 12 hours total.

I worked 2 6 hour shifts last year at the Nashville Airport. Our second shift we only wound up working 4 hours, so I worked a total of 10 hours all weekend and was done by 2 PM Friday afternoon.
It varies, we did camp with people who had to work during sets, but none of them had bad shifts. Some people showed up for their shift and got sent away, or got sent back early (like we did)...so it is possible.
with the ticket sale date quickly approaching, and having never volunteered before (but planning on volunteering at a couple other fests before this one), what are the odds a first time volunteer being accepted to volunteer?

Jump in early and I bet you'll get in. They take former vols first then go down the line.
I'm really looking forward to it, it seems like a fun experience and way to meet new people... plus from what i've gathered from this board, bonnaroo has some awesome people who attend it!
Don't stress out about the schedule you may get, you'll have plenty of time off to enjoy the music. I worked a double shift during the day on Thursday last year and then a short one Sunday morning. It's great to arrive on the the farm early before the crowds and see how everything in put in place at the last minute.

when so we sign up for this then? i want to get in right away... im looking foreward to all this a little to much
I don't think anyone knows for sure when the aps are going up, but my guess is after tickets go on sale and the powers that be get a good idea of a head count. That way they'll know how many vols they'll have to take on. . . just a guess, though.

Does anyone know if they really do it that way? Last year I got into pre-fest as a new volunteer, which I never expected. I switched into during-fest a few weeks before because I didn't have a car and that was fine too.

Yeah, they really take previous vols first--a way of ensuring folks will actually show up.
I think last year there were less applicants so they took on a lot more new people (myself included).

Ok, so I've looked through all 13 pages (whew!) and I'm still wondering did you volunteer for Roo or did you volunteer for Clean Vibes? Mainly because I want to hear more about the Clean Vibes experience.
I've gone to Roo twice in the past but I'm thinking this year I'll volunteer so I know many are tired of answering the same old questions over and over again, but I'm still curious.

I think maybe you should starts a new clean vibes volunteering thread. They are similar programs, but they're administered very differently so the application process and everything is completely different. I did spend some time with some Clean Vibes people several times when they weren't letting people into the What Stage area yet except for staff people so I'd go hang out with them while I waited for my friends. They seemed cool, and like they were having fun...but maybe you can find someone who's actually done it to answer you!
