We are excited to announce Bonnaroo’s partnership with Shimon Presents and their Work Exchange Team for Bonnaroo 2010!
You are receiving this email because you have volunteered at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival one or more times in the past. All returning Bonnaroo volunteers are given priority in applying and will have a 2-week window in which to complete their Bonnaroo 2010 application. After this time period the application will become live for all interested persons, so make sure you get your application in within the 2-week window!
The Work Exchange Team is a program that specializes in recruiting and managing volunteers at music festivals. The application process may be a little different than the past Bonnaroo application experience, so please read through this email entirely for updated Bonnaroo 2010 application information.
BONNAROO WET INFORMATION:
Although the minimum number of hours to complete is 18, some volunteers will be asked to work a little bit more. Additionally, there will be a half hour added to each shift to account for check-in and deployment. Depending on whether you are working During Bonnaroo, Prefestival, or at the Toll Booths, you will be required to check in by a certain date and time (info is below). Once you are onsite and checked in, you may not leave the site for any reason. Make sure you are prepared with provisions! Each volunteer will be required to check in and out of their shift with WET staff. This is a little different than in past years, however it will make it easier to locate your department and supervisors. APPLICATION PROCESS:
Priority Applications will open for past Bonnaroo Volunteers on Friday, March 12, 2010. The application will open to the general public on Friday, March 26, 2010 at which point you will lose your priority privileges. There is a $25.00 nonrefundable application and processing fee required to fill out an application. The following link will go live on Friday, March 12, 2010. This link is nontransferable. Any attempts by non-Bonnaroo volunteers (i.e. any person that has not been a past Bonnaroo volunteer) to use this link will result in the loss of their $25.00 nonrefundable application fee and any opportunity of volunteering at Bonnaroo 2010. workexchangeteam.com/bonnaroo_priority.php The Deposit page will open to all past Bonnaroo volunteers on Friday, March 26, 2010. Priority Deposits will close on Friday, April 9, 2010. After April 9, 2010 deposits will open to the general public. Submitting your deposit is the only way to secure your volunteer spot at Bonnaroo 2010. All deposits will be processed Monday, May 3, 2010. The deposit collection process simply secures your spot, no card will be charged until Monday, May 3rd. Please be advised of the cancellation policy outlined below. DEPARTMENT PREFERENCE:
If you want to work in the same department that you have worked in the past, be sure to check off only that department name in your application. If you prefer to work in a different department, please select your preferences in your application. Pre-Festival Volunteers - Pre-Festival spots will be filled from past Bonnaroo volunteers. Pre-Fest Volunteers must check in on Sunday, June 6th, between 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Toll Booth volunteers will be required to camp at the West Toll Booth location for the duration of their work days (up until their last shift is done, no later than Friday, June 11th), after which they may move to camp with the general Bonnaroo patrons (however, their cars will need to stay parked in this lot). All POD applicants will be emailed by the PODS with an additional survey, as they will hand select their volunteers. Be sure to complete their email survey right away. Not thrilled that we have to pay a $25 fee just to apply. But I guess it will help weed out those that are not serious.
I got my email, debating about doing "during show clean-up" 7:30-1:30 fri/sat/sun. I like the idea of knowing exactly what I'm doing & when, its early but won't miss any shows. anybody done this? or just go for the crap shoot and see where they assign me? Last year I got lucky and was only assigned 2 shifts and 1 was cancelled! This new company makes me a little nervous, they seem very organized and rigid, have a feeling I'd get 3 full shifts
i just filled out my application and paid my deposit...kinda steep, plus have to put down $275 on may 3rd...i have a feeling everyone will be working the full 18 hours...i signed up for toll booths, hopefully will get it, said you would be done working by 6 pm on friday...at least they let you pick which band you want to see the most
I wish they didn't make us pay to apply.. I am planning on volunteering with a friend, but he never volunteered so he doesn't get priority. What if I apply, pay the money, and he doesn't get in? Idk what to do!!! This new company does seem kind of strict..
And I don't like the whole stipulation that you can't leave the Bonnaroo grounds for supplies.. what about pre-fest workers??
This year WILL be stricter - no milling about the site randomly pre-fest. More work with full shifts. WET means business kids! But hey - a free tee-shirt and the people are super nice!
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.
thanks Luna for posting that e-mail! i didnt receive it since my email changed, but i went ahead and applied anyway since i volunteered last year and i believe that gives me priority! hopefully they look at my name for confirmation of previous volunteering and not the email address, i would be upset if i lost my $25 application fee... but i guess thats something im risking by doing it this way.
I applied and paid. I'll give them a try. I had such a great experience last year, I really can't imagine going as a regular ticket holder again. I applied for pre-fest.
This new company has me very skeptical and worried. My friends and I are all just hoping to get clean vibes after fest cleanup gigs. That way we're free to enjoy the festival & dont have to worry about responsibility or missing anything.

I call shenanigans, ive had a lil WET exp and they were WAYYYYYY more relaxed than karen and the other bonnaroo vol people. Most of the people I met that were actually working (or interning) for WET were there to party, not to work.

I agree, as I've said before, I've volunteered with WET 5 times and all my experiences have been good and everyone I worked with were great. I never had a complaint about anything related to WET volunteer gigs.
I am a litttle surprised about this thing about not being able to leave the site though. But in four Roos, I've only left once on Sunday my first year. I haven't decided yet whether or not to do pre-fest though. I've got another week to decide, so that's good.
has anyone gotten an e-mail saying they were approved to work? i applied the day they opened up the application for previous volunteers and am still yet to hear anything back...just trying to figure out if i lost $25 or not...
I haven't heard anything about my app either. Glad to hear about the good experiences with WET. I wonder if not leaving the site includes on foot or if they will supply us with a shuttle like they did last year. It just means packing more food and planning carefully. The only reason I took the Walmart shuttle last year was to see the parking lot campers.
not being able to leave the site sounds horrible and dumb. If I'm not allowed to go back into town at least once before wed night I'll be super pissed and write a really mean letter.
we couldnt leave the site last year either...i was in summer school and asked them about leaving to attend my class on wed and thurs (i'm a local) and they basically told me to skip class or not volunteer...this policy is nothing new from last year...it would have been practically impossible to get out anyway the way they had people camped...
I arrived on sunday, I drove my car, that was in vol parking, to cookeville on wed. I came back thursday and couldn't come back in, but I was allowed to park just on the other side of the fence from my campsite.
I did leave the site everyday though, multiple times. We had to take the shuttle into town, but I have family in manchester and I had a cousin take me to wal mart on tuesday afternoon just before we had the quesadilla party. So I know that it was def allowed last year
Yeah, we had to leave the site last year. We had to take a shuttle to do our job. Mine and Levis' job was practically in the wal-mart parking lot. After every shift I would go over to walmart and then catch the shuttle back to the site.
This year if they don't provide transport to and from the site we will have to leave like 2 hours before our shift in order to get to the vendor check in. Unless they move vendor check in to a place on site.
I still say Boo. Asking people to be on site for 8 days without being able to buy ice, last year there were no ice trucks for the first few days, or other things that we might need is alot to expect.
obviously this company is waiting til the last minute to let everyone know if they have been approved to work...i want to know now! oh well, i guess it will be tomorrow...

I'm trying to volunteer for this first time this year with a couple friends and know that registration opens to the general public tomorrow, but does anyone have an idea of whether that means Midnight tonight or sometime later in the day tomorrow? I really wanna get approved for this so the earlier the better
