Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
traffic is a HUGE benefit for volunteering. Little to no traffic. I think for tollbooth volunteers last year I waited around an hour. They mightve just gotten those gates opened up or just had slow people or something, but the people camping in BFE as during fest volunteers were already set up by the time we were alloted our camping space. Though, I do remember them letting people check in Tues morning but not opening up the grounds until 2pm or something like that, so people hung out at the check-in location (a school) for a while.
"Once you are onsite at Bonnaroo, you will not be allowed to leave. Please allow yourself plenty of time to get all your gear and needs together before you arrive at the check in. Offsite pedestrian traffic is prohibited as incoming patron and support vehicles are ongoing and afford high risk to pedestrians."
I wonder if they mean it this year... last year those vans back and forth from the Scottish Inn were invaluable
The Bonnaroo site says that a factor in accepting pre-fest volunteers will be how quickly we submit a deposit.
But they never asked me to submit the $285 deposit, only the $25 application fee. Aren't you supposed to submit the deposit AFTER they accept you? I don't understand...

The way it's worked in the past is that applications are made available first to returning volunteers, then later to first timers. After the application process, then deposits are accepted-- again, first to returning, then to everyone. This year it's looking like it's going to be a bit of a free for all, but to speak to your concern, deposits are not yet being accepted, WET is still in the application process. Eventually they will let us know when we can submit out deposits. Until then, I'll keep a good $320 or so on-hand =)
I'd like to think that the biggest factor that will determine your eligibility for pre-fest would be your volunteer experience at Bonnaroo. Out of the 1,000+ people who make up the volunteer staff annually, the pre-fest crew is made up of about 100, so the admission process asks a lot of their applicants. I've volunteered two years running, this will be year three for me. I have experience working with event production, technical and decor lighting, and my day-job is at a music venue here in DC, so hopefully they'll keep me in fold!
It would really be a shame if they expect us to submit a deposit before we find out whether or not we get accepted to pre-fest.
I purchased a ticket already in case I don't get pre-fest, but there is no way I'm putting down a deposit until I'm certain that I got in. It would be kind of unreasonable to expect people to pay money before they know what days they are working - no?

I don't mean to across as mean or anything, but it seems that many of the things about which you are unsure have been answered quite succinctly in the emails we've received from WET. Both of the following sentences answer the questions you've posted, and both are taken from emails sent by WET in the past couple weeks:
"This is your application, you will be asked for additional information and a deposit in April."
"I understand that I will forfeit my entire deposit if I cancel anytime on or after Monday, April 30th, 2012."
(The ladder quote is supplied to indicate that you can submit your deposit, then cancel your volunteer application and have your full deposit returned, provided you do so before April 30)
Just out of curiosity, is there anyone that is volunteering by themselves? I'm from the Franklin area and none of my friends are interested in coming this year. I knew that it wasn't going to be as fun without my friends, but I really wanted go this year. Any input from past volunteers about whether you think that it's worth it to go by myself?
Hi Ginger, this will be my third time doing the vol thing. The past 2 as well as this one, I did solo. I too was very concerned about going it alone. The main reason is I'm old enough to be most folk's dad (pushing hard toward 50). However, both previous I felt right at home. Everyone around you will pitch-in getting your camp set up or just hanging out. If you get he the time or are just very bored come and say hi to an old man, . Holler back if you have any questions or you can pm me. Have fun at roo. David
I just found out that I can't go to Italy to study abroad this summer because of visa problems which is a bummer, but I can finally go to Bonnaroo after trying the past 4 years! My friend and I want to volunteer but we are worried that our chances of getting accepted are low because we have signed up so late, are our chances significantly lower for applying so late? Thanks ya'll!

The more, the merrier! Apply! You'll be fine. It closes up a lot closer to when the fest is, even after deposits are open, I'm sure. I think the main thing is to get your deposit in asap.
Has anyone gotten an email telling them that they've been accepted as a volunteer yet? If you aren't accepted will they let you know?
I am not sure if they send rejection emails-- I could only imagine they would. I haven't gotten an acceptance yet, but like most of us on here, I certainly will post once it comes through! In past years I think they tended to send them all out at roughly the same time (within a couple of days). I'm sure you'll probably be accepted. Once we all start getting our acceptance emails, we'll all start freaking out and getting really excited and copying / pasting the text of the email(s) here =)
Depends on your personality and preferences. Some people prefer not to miss any shows and work after the festival cleaning up garbage and picking up cigarette butts. Other people prefer to work during the festival and not take off even more days from work at the expense of some shows.
If I was picking between trash and tollbooth, I'd probably pick tollbooth since that's one of the "during festival" jobs where you miss the least amount of shows. Or you could do post-fest clean-up where you won't miss any shows at all.
For the people that have volunteered before... what's the best/worst volunteering position? trash? tollbooth?
2008 was my first and I worked VIP check-in. The plus side was that all my shifts were between 1100a and 2p, I didn't have to miss any good shows. The minus was, I had to start right away and did not get to campsite till after first shift was over. 2009 I worked the "Silent Auction Tent" No minuses about this one at all. Tent was air- conditioned and once again all my shifts were over by 4p. I requested Brooer's Tent this year, yep I know, "good luck".
still havent gotten an acceptance email, anyone get one? I went to the new site but it says not accepting deposits yet but it also says you will be notified with 2 weeks of applying and that was March 8th
Same. Still no response. Although the initial "we received your application" confirmation e-mail said that it would take 2-3 weeks to respond. So if you applied on March 8th, you should have heard back within the last few days. Hopefully it doesn't take them too much longer. I am starting my internship in a month and really need to let them know what days I'm taking off. Can't wait to hear back already.

I haven't received an acceptance email, but my application is listed as "Accepted." No details are given as to whether that means "Accepted" as in simply received, are accepted as in approved and confirmed and good to go (and no clarification on whether it is the latter, if that means that I've been approved and accepted for the pre-fest designation requested). I sent them an email, will communicate here.
