I noticed they designated a new midfest shift where you work Wed day shift & Thurs day or overnight & done by noon Friday. Hmm.... Long hours standing & in heat makes me think it's helping with parking vs regular tollbooth any 2 shifts from Wed to Fri 9pm to be greeter at tollbooths.

I saw that shift! Looks like a winner for new-comers to WET, but I still love me some prefest! I could only assume that you're spot on with your judgement that it's probably helping people park-- I wonder if this might make Tollbooth a little more competitive?
I also tried looking at the WET app earlier this morning and the choices they added were "tollbooths - 2 13 hr shifts" even though they still have the original "tollbooths" choice and "midfest set-up" so i wonder if its sorta more pre-fest set-up type work vs parking... *shrug* I might just stick with regular tollbooth cause it could be fun and easier to greet people coming in. we shall see.

Does anyone have a good link which clearly outlines the structure and hierarchy of the new WET credential system? I'm just a little confused about what the steps are and what exactly is required to advance. Thanks!

FAQ on their site says: "How do I gain a higher Credential Level with WET?
Arrive to your shifts early and ready to work! Your work ethic will help you to shine at your assigned task. We know that not every job is for every person, but if you can complete your jobs to the delight of your shift supervisor, you will be awarded a star for that department. The more starts you collect, the better! If you collect 5 stars in any combination of departments, you will go up 1 Credential Level! Get all the way to All Access for special work opportunities and more!"

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks Ellie!! I knew I had seen something about the different steps, but I couldn't remember if it was an email or on their site or what, and I searched through everything but couldn't find it! Anyways, thanks a bunch, looks like I'm a no-star Staff'er-- not too shabby

Just heard of two duedes who JUST got an email informing them of their acceptance to work prefest.... I still haven't heard anything yet about my application (other than its being accepted a couple weeks ago)... Let the games begin!
EDIT:: JUST GOT MY PRE-FEST EMAIL!!! YEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! ;D ;D
Just wanted to let people know that anyone interested in Midfest positions are camping with during festers in the main volunteer area and are generally doing set-up tasks like pre-festers do

Ellie last year we Prefesters also camped in the main volunteer area (called "The Back 60" by Bonnaroo types, called "54. Camp Dr. Holly Goodhead" on the Bonnaroo site map from 2011, over by Pod 1 on the southeast corner of the farm). Are you saying that the midfester position is more like pre / during than tollbooth, at least with respect to camp location? Basically I guess Midfesters are like 2nd string prefesters?

yep. I know prefesters stay out there in BFE too but midfesters wont be in the tollbooth area. just actual tollboothers. so its kinda like what prefest doesnt finish up, midfesters will. Says midfesters guaranteed to be done by noon Friday vs tollbooth at 9pm Friday. I'm sticking to tollbooth since I liked the campground kinda and I never got to greet people which seems fun.

Hey all - first time volunteer and first time Roo'er here! Does anyone know what VIP All Access might entail as far as schedule and/or experience may be like?
And are the volunteers always out in BFE? Is it really that bad? And also, about how many people are out in BFE? It's hard to really think of how massive each pod may be for someone who's never been there! BFE makes me think you feel stranded on an island with not many people around, but logic tells me that will NOT be the case!
I was so confused on what to mark down as the area I wanted to volunteer in because I felt like nothing was really clear! I changed my mind at least 10 times - started with tollbooth, but wasn't sure on the camping location/shower situation/missing smaller shows on Thursday and/or Friday. Thought about pre-fest, but thought I was unlikely to get that as a first-timer and didn't want to leave my area completely up to fate after that! Considered Broo'ers Village, but ultimately chose VIP All Access because I figure I may be busy during the headliner shows that I'm not as concerned about (although I don't know how scheduling goes - are there normally smaller bands playing during headliners), and at least I should have a decent view for any shows I do end up working. My logic may be severely flawed, but I'm hoping not...
I really didn't know what I was doing if you couldn't tell!

My guess would be that you are either working the gates at the VIP camping area(s) or working up on the hill in one of the VIP hangout area(s) (there's one up to house left of the main, What Stage, and another way back behind the field in front of the What stage). I know that I have spoken with people who have worked VIP in years past and they all seemed happy with the assignment, but I really can't recall exactly what they were doing.

Nearly all volunteers camp out in the back sixty (I've never heard the term BFE, but I think we're talking about the same spot-- what is BFE?). The only exception is the tollboother's, who will camp at one of two (or maybe three) different spots right next to where it is that they work (which is obviously out at the tollbooths). Personally, I love the volunteer camping area! I kind of like being out of the way of the whorde's traveling, and while the area is filled in with normal concert goers once all the volunteers arrive and the gates are open, I feel like there's a bit more security or privacy in knowing that the area in which volunteers are asked to camp is fenced off and gaurded by a security person who (at least in theory) checks credentials of everyone going in to make sure that they are volunteers.
It's also a nice, easy stroll from this area to Centeroo, and in years past we have been able to use an entrance other than the main entrance to access Centeroo-- this entrance is pretty much never busy and walking in is just as easy as walking in! In all honesty the way I see it, the camping area for volunteers and its proximity to Centeroo and its psuedo private placement, is a large part of what makes volunteering such a good deal.

Year one is always a big ball of confusion...my best advice would is:
a) be PATIENT and CALM and ACCOMMODATING-- all these WET folks can tend to get a little frazzled, but be patient with them, we're all in the same boat as volunteers but they're a small group of mostly interns who are trying the wrangle a volunteer team over 1,000 people... just keep cool and smile a lot
b) be willing to volunteer for whatever work they want to give you-- and at the same time remind them frequently of any special skills you may have that would be beneficial to any particular type of work.
c) bring heavy-duty work gloves-- this is probably less important for the type of work that during-fest'ers do, but prefesters are asked to do some extremely physical things sometimes (like shovel mulch for 10hr a day for 3 days). I'll be bringing gloves and I'd encourage everyone else to aswell, just in case... I could only imagine that nothing would spoil a good roo quite as quickly as horribly blistered and torn-up hands.
d) read every page of this thread between now and Bonnaroo-- there's tons of great volunteer wisdom in these 50+ pages of posts. I read them all my first year and it helped me a bunch!
e) memorize the map of Bonnaroo before you get down there!-- this one is for anyone who attending really-- you'd rather spend your time down at roo going to shows and hanging out that lamenting your inability to locate a map, so take the time to develop a perfect photo of at least the five stages in your head, so that you won't need to worry about checking a map!
Congrats on making it to volunteer! Welcome aboard!
You havent heard the term "BFE"?! (see the map i found on another thread: i20.photobucket.com/albums/b249/TickTrix/rooaerialphotoshopped.jpg) I only know that term from the boards, lol... And tollboothers have 1 camping area, from what I know, near the tollbooths at the northwest corner of the farm, near the silo (where you met me to get your stuff last year) and then we get shipped off to other locations if necessary. Everyone not doing tollbooth is in the main volunteer camping area in that secluded clump of campground sections at the southeast, but i visited there wed night i think it was last year to hand out coffee to parking staff and it looked WAY fun and energetic. It looks small when empty and on the map sorta but great vibe out there. Plenty of people. But I do hear complaints of walking, but tollbooth is a wee bit of a walk but I like less chances of ticks and can watch the farm transform more easily, as well as see the ferris wheel lit up and whatnot.
for tollboothers, you have less people shouting for party favors like what i noticed in tent only when i hung out there and whatnot. i didnt hear of any theft in our area. we had access to Pod 6 showers with a voucher they ended up printing us for each shift we did (so 2 free showers for 2 shifts). we even got away with cold showers before the farm opened up to the public. It was glorious getting all clean Monday morning before heading home and nice it wasnt crowded then. we went to Pod 7 or something where there were a ton of showers and still open (around 11am or so i think). You're guaranteed to be done by 9pm Friday for tollbooth and noon Friday for midfest. If you want to see as much music as possible and really care about catching most of Friday afternoon, you can do midfest. If you dont care much for Thursday/Friday's smaller acts, I'd go with tollbooth and it'd probably be less strenuous. pre-fest is good for not missing anything if you can get there by Sunday to check-in, I believe, but it's more hours and more strenuous work. If you do during fest, theres no way to guarantee you'd do only mornings or something and see all the shows you want to. Prefest is pretty much for returning volunteers, so in order to see the most music, you'd want the midfest or tollbooth positions to be done by Friday and enjoy all of Sat/Sun.
No real way to guarantee your shift times (even when requesting a band - last year, I got mine scheduled for but thankfully they didnt have anything for us to do and let us out early enough to go see my requested Beats Antique show)... just the general days (3 shifts sun-wed, 2 shifts wed day and thurs day or overnight (2 shifts with wed day guaranteed for midfest positions), wed-fri 9pm (tollbooth), or thurs-sun during fest, and i think post-fest is mon-wed or so...
I believe this is the first year they are doing Midfest.
That's right. They announced it as a new shift this year. They said (via my questioning on their Facebook) you camp with the regular volunteers (not tollbooth area) and then do pre-fest type work with setup and whatnot. The email warned that you must stand for long periods in the hot sun.

Hey this would be my first time volunteering, and I have a couple questions. First, are applications closed? My friend and I have been meaning to apply, but money was tight. Now it's abetter, but I fear it might be too late. I'll still go either way, but would rather volunteer. Also, when is the deposit for the ticket price taken out? Is it instantly, or do they tell you when? Finally, due to a prior obligation, I was hoping to work post-festival. When do those volunteers have to arrive onsite? I can't leave until June 6th at the soonest, so I was planning on getting there that night/next morning.
