Do they check wristbands or something in the volunteer campground? I volunteered last year but I don't remember how it worked ... The reason I ask is because I am volunteering with a friend, but my other friend bought a GA ticket. She wants to camp with us though. I know it says on the website that only volunteers are allowed to camp in the volunteer area, but she's walking (not driving) and she's not even bringing a tent. She would just be staying in our tent with us. I remember that last year we had some GA friends who came and hung out in the volunteer area during the day, but I don't remember how they were let in. Will my friend be allowed into the area??? Will they even know that she is camping with us? Anyone got any advice on this?
Last year the vol camping area wasn't monitored too well (no one checked my band). I also did it in 08 and 09 and they were very strict (checked wrist bands). I'd say the only biggie is the showers. To me the best perk was free showers.

They have not checked wristbands for entry into the volunteer campground since 2010 and even then it was pretty lax. The only area I recall they checked wristbands was for access to porto potties and a shower trailer that was fenced in for volunteer use only.
Assuming things are like last year, your friend will have no issue staying with your group.
I don't know what it was like general volunteer camp, but I know tollbooth/parking was never fully fenced in and never checked who came/went, really. Checking for showers and whatnot makes sense, but I imagine (and hope) they're lax about who comes/goes as long as no new cars try to park and squeeze in there where they're not allowed. If people are hanging out with volunteers, I would hope they wouldn't send them away. They just wouldnt have use of our free shower privileges and whatnot.
I would say, just to be safe, have a back-up plan, but I'm sort of doing the same thing with my friend. Hopin she parks in day parking and walks over to my tollbooth/parking camp right next to there and joins my tent. I'll shoot her a text or call Tuesday evening to confirm she can join easily once I see it's the same as the previous 2 years I volunteered (but that was with WET, so hoping Bonnaroo wont make it more strict with fencing and whatnot, but I don't think it's worth their time and extra effort)

In 2011 I was in regular volunteer camp and no one checked my wristband and it wasn't fenced off, only the vendor camp was fenced off. Not sure about last year cause I was up in the tollbooth volunteer camp. Pretty sure your friend won't be given any trouble.
I just got an email saying that if I switch from office administration to tollbooths or parking they'll take 6 hours off my shift. What's better, toll booth or parking?

Each has their pros and cons...
Parking is guaranteed done by Friday night, which is nice, but you'll have to deal with walking in the sun for long hours and parking cars. I went ahead and went for this because of the guaranteed end time.
Toll booth I find more fun and more chance of a little shade but only the 12-hour shift is guaranteed Wed, Thurs, or Fri. The 6-hour shift could be anytime from Wednesday to Sunday. I liked meeting people excited and from all over. Sometimes, especially late at night, it got dull (and cold last year! brr!) because there were less people arriving then and we had a lot of volunteers on duty at that point. This year, I can see why they cant guarantee Friday end time (was that way in previous years); the day tickets from Nashville are new this year, so they need to make sure enough volunteers on hand for people that come/go a lot. You scan in wristbands and hang tags, write any special codes on their windshield, and hand out guides and trash bags. Pretty simple once you get the hang of it.
Also, keep in mind parking/toll booth volunteers camp in their own volunteer camping area (past POD 6 near the silo; NW corner of the map/grounds)
Unnecessary post, sorry! Here's the email in case anyone wants to read it:
Hey Office Administration Folks!
I have a huge over staffing issue on this C'roo. We based the number of people that we accepted off of what was requested last year and it turns out that the need is much smaller this year. MUCH SMALLER!!
So, I have a proposal to all of you. If you'll switch to During-Show Parking or During-Show Toll Booths. I'll only schedule you one 12 hour shift on Wednesday and a 6 hour shift on Thursday morning and you'll be done.
For the PRE-Show folks that means you'll get to come a couple of days later and work 6 hours less, for the During-Show folks that means you're guaranteed not to miss any shows.
Please respond to this email if you're willing to make the switch. thanks

Toll Booth hands down. Ya get some shade and a power outlet to charge your phone.
It's great...as long as they follow through! I emailed back with the following:
I will make the switch to toll booths if we are guaranteed to be finished by Thursday. How will that be ensured? I don't want my shift moved past Thursday because someone is unaware of the offer you have given us. I'm especially concerned because tollbooth volunteering is not guaranteed to end early this year, so if there is a misunderstanding I could have my 6 hour shift in the middle of the show.

In the back of my head I had worries about them not actually following through with the shortened work hours, but me and my friend switched to toll booths....we decided if they don't follow through with the hours they said to give us then we will raise heck and have the original email to cite as proof of the hours they offered and we agreed to.
Long story short, I got convinced into doing GA with my friend + his group instead of volunteering, so I gave up my spot & got a refund. Then an incident happened earlier this week and now he & I are no longer speaking (99.9% will not be friends again).
I'm pissed/disappointed...not only am I stuck going solo, I don't even have my volunteer spot

That suuuuuuucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Things can change in a month and even if you end up having to travel to Bonnaroo solo, you won't be alone when you get there. There are plenty of us that are going alone. Heck, now that you're not volunteering, you could plan to join Camp Inforoo.

It may be because I'm a total newbie and haven't been on this board enough, but what is Camp Inforoo?
To quote Dave Maynar: "Camp Inforoo is where people from the board camp together in Tent Only Camping. It is also the site of Inforoo Brunch on Friday. In short, expect a lot of partial nudity, hippies and drinking."

How much closer/farther to centeroo is this alleged toll booth/parking volunteer campsite compared to the normal volunteers' campsite?
img194.imageshack.us/img194/4999/broo12map.jpg Look at this map. Volunteer Camping is labeled for both areas... NW corner, left of POD 6, right by the west toll booths is toll booth/parking volunteer camp. All other volunteers are in the opposite (SE) corner by POD 1, next to Vendor Camping. I think I've heard/read that it's ok if that side entrance next to the What Stage is open for the regular volunteer camp, but sometimes it's closed in the morning, late at night, and according to the map, I guess it's not open before Friday.
Personally, I like it out there in toll/parking camp. Even if sometimes late at night, you're exhausted and want to already be there and jump in bed...but POD 11 and whatnot is a much farther walk (for the poor GA folks that get stuck there), it's safer since it's in the back, cleaner portapotties, and you have a great view of the majority of the farm and see it turn from a big green field to a sea of cars and can even see the ferris wheel set up in Centeroo and whatnot. The 1 thing I wish they'd change is have showers for *just* us volunteers that were unlimited and whatnot like in the main volunteer camp. The past 2 years, we've gotten paper vouchers or shower tokens (1 per shift I think) to use at the nearby showers in POD 6 that were also used by the GA folks in the area (and only around 4 shower stalls for each gender, I think it was). We were allowed to use the unlimited free ones in the main volunteer camp, but no way I was gonna trek all that way and back just for a shower. Water troughs, baby wipes, and an occasional real shower at POD 6 is better than that. (Though, I've learned there are MUCH MUCH more showers that seem to be a lot better at POD 7. We always stop at POD 7 on Monday after packing up to take 1 last shower before heading home)
what do u get for volunteering? free ticket or better seats? thinking about doing it too
You pay a deposit that's worth the ticket cost (about $300) and then after you go to your shifts you get your money back (around a week after the festival ends). You get free showers, a volunteer t-shirt, boxed meals on shift, and probably a few meal tokens too that can be used for a certain $ amount of food at food vendors.
"We've gotten a lot of questions about when schedules will be available, well...if you're PRE-Show...they're done We just finished up all of the PRE-Show schedules today.
If you're During-Show, we're still working on those but hope to have them wrapped up by May 24th at the latest. GuRoos will be in place by next Friday and we'll probably have to redo some of their schedules...just a warning.
If you still haven't paid your deposit, you have to do that by Friday May 17th to secure your spot. If you are thinking you may have to drop out, you have until May 17th to let us know or you'll forfeit your full deposit."
Looks like pre-festers are getting only 3 6-hour shifts opposed to the 4 6-hour shifts they posted online. Consider yourselves lucky Last year it was 3 *12-hour* shifts with WET!!
