I know I know...I had just come back from Disney and had been driving 15 hours straight and had hoped for additions...I am sorry. I will never mention Unchained again. Thanks for bringing me back to reality Katbur!
I was one of the sad few who attended that d*mn unchained set hoping for a surprise. I NEVER WANT TO HEAR THAT NAME EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I've been listening to Garfunkel and Oates the past couple days. I really hope they get added. Good funny music, plus I've had a huge crush on Kate Micucci since I've seen her on Rasing Hope.

I've been thinking about the artist additions today and wanted to know what you guys think. Do the artist additions come as an attempt to garner more sales after a slump from the original release? I assume with all festivals and regular shows this would be the case. Does a lack of sales or an abundance of sales affect the additions? Would Bonneroo be more likely to add artists sooner if the sales are slow? Would they be more prone to add bigger name acts if the sales are slow? Just wondered what everyone here thinks.
I have always thought additions were a mixture of things. First, some acts just can't be nailed down before the initial line-up drop. They are still working out their tour dates or finishing up the album they are getting ready to release or whatever. Second, I would say some are added due to a bump in popularity between the initial signing period and post line-up. With the initial line-up coming out in February, it'd be hard to anticipate who is going to be blowing up in June. Third, there is the element of buzz about it. In February, a bunch of people are talking about the line-up then it drops off after other festivals release their line-ups. Additions bring Bonnaroo back to the forefront for a little. Fifth, with AC and Superfly putting on other festivals, the timing of the additions may have something to do with whatever they have going on with the other festivals. For example, AC likes to do stuff on Tuesday. They released a few adds for Forecastle a week ago on Tuesday. It wouldn't make any sense for them to have released Bonnaroo's on the same day because it would dilute the buzz for both. Sixth, it may have something to do with when the acts want to announce things. They may know they are going to be at Bonnaroo but might not want to announce it until they get all their other tour dates worked out. Finally (f*ck me. I am long-winded), I don't know how much ticket sales have to deal with additions.
it's pretty rare we get any big-ish acts in terms of additions, so I think Yeah Yeah Yeahs/QotSA/Vampire Weekend are probably not gonna happen. The "biggest" additions I can recall from recent years were NOFX, Santigold, and Danzig. I hope I'm wrong because obv I would love to see YYYs/QotSA/VW on the farm, though I think we may have to scale our expectations down a bit. This ain't Coachella; we're not gonna get a surprise big act weeks before the festival (a la Prince at Coachella 2008). I think Surfer Blood might still be a possibility seeing as they are touring with Foals, and I would like to see lesser-known acts like Black Moth Super Rainbow, Toro y Moi, and Youth Lagoon added. I'm also praying for the return of the Lunar Stage. Still though, Cut Copy, Deerhunter, Empire of the Sun, and Grimes are at the top of my list. I'm thinking we'll see some additions either next week or the week after.
Rooin' since '05...(except 2014...worst June of my life!)
"Hey Peter Frampton! Do you like toast too? Yes, as do I. It is warm and crispy, and a perfect place for jelly to lay. Now stay the hell away from me Frampton, I ain’t got sh*t to say to you!"

Uhh they also added Fun. and GZA with Grupo Fantasma. Fun. is pretty big now I suppose.. Maybe we'll get an act that's gonna blow up like they did.

Then you should have gone last year.
I know. Unfortunately I have a mile long list of reasons why I couldn't make it last year.
Not going to re-quote from above, but I agree with Dave Maynar esp. after you do the street team stuff and realize their cycle. 2. Don't expect additions for atleast another 2 weeks, IMO, they JUST gave us comedy additions. 3. I would be happy with one artist that is on the "Santigold & GZA" tier -- seeing that GZA was probably their strongest LN that night -- and Santi ended up with a What Stage vs. SBTRKT. So I'm pretty optimistic about additions whenever they do come
The Black Crowes just posted on their Facebook page that fans should look for announcement on Friday morning, 4/5, at 9 AM. Hope this is a Roo addition...
Edit: they're playing at Wakarusa (5/30 - 6/1) and then have a gap until 6/18 (Amsterdam...which would be a hell of a show.)

Ok then. I checked up on the Important Bonnaroo Dates thread about this. Color me surprised.
The good news: the latest adds have come since '09 is April 7th, so it would be reasonable to expect adds pretty soon. The bad news: Whereas the initial line-up always comes out on Tuesday, the adds have actually never came on a Tuesday in the last few years. They break down as such: 2012 (Monday and Wednesday (2 sets of adds)), 2011 (Thursday), 2010 (Saturday), 2009 (Wednesday), so basically, they should be soon, but there is no real reason that they will be one day over the other.
Totally surprised that Summerfest (Milwaukee) got MGMT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Empire of the Sun, Yeasayer, and Atlas Genius. Hopefully Bonnaroo can snatch up one of those.
Cracker is playing the Saturday of Roo in Colorado. Would have been a pretty sweet add. Thought all along we could get a black crowes but with the 6/18 show in Amsterdam I'm starting to think it won't happen.
The black crows could play Friday the 14th and fly out of Nashville on the 15 and still make their Amsterdam show!
A rule of thumb that I try to use when deciding if someone is playing Bonnaroo is whether or not I have to research international flights. If I do, I just assume that the artist is unlikely at best.

You're right about that! If a band has to travel internationally immediately following a festival it probably won't play the festival.

I think the international thing depends on the size/travel ability of the act. When Jay-Z headlined a couple years ago I believe his turnaround from Isle of Wight was less than 24 hrs. I'm not saying that The Black Crowes are quite on the same scale but they would certainly be able to make the overseas trip if they really wanted to play Bonaroo followed by Amsterdam.

Ha, I almost laughed at you as I had not heard that name in 12 years, then I realized I was thinking of Uncle Kracker.

Cracker is a good band. I saw them in Colorado a few years back and it was a great show. They did some Dead covers and a decent amount of jamming. I'd be down for them coming to Roo.

I have wanted Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven to come back for years. Johnny Hickman said no though when I asked him on facebook earlier this year.
