I thought his setlist was great but something was very wrong. Was the lead guitar for Tom Petty not properly amped for this show? I only saw it on the stream but it seemed like they never got him hooked up.
I thought his song selection was a little iffy. He left Breakdown, I Need To Know, You Got Lucky and Don't Do Me Like That sitting on the bench, and his sequencing of the songs he did pick was pretty rough; that middle section just dragged on because they played so many slower and midtempo tracks in a row.

I enjoyed the show for the most part. Hearing some of those classics live was fantastic, but the middle section was such a bore and pretty frustrating.

Agreed. No Don't Do Me Like That stood out immediately, but I didn't even realize he left out Breakdown too!
What a fucking awesome way to close the Roo. The rain was perfect. Campbell tore the fucking house down. "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is a little overplayed in my book, and I thought I wouldn't have been upset if he left it out, but Campbell and Petty's lick tradeoff during that song BLEW ME THE FUCK AWAY. What an awesome moment. Campbell also RIPPED "Good Enough", oh baby!
The setlist was a festival set if there ever was one, a little disappointing considering what rare gems he's pulling out on this tour, but the show had such energy and rocked so hard that I find it hard to be truly upset. A truly great way to close the Roo!

I thought his set was pretty standard for one of his shows. I saw a lot of people leaving and probably moved up a hundred yards by the end of the show.
It was not the best petty performance id seen, but it by far wasn't bad.
This was my fourth time seeing Petty but first time in about 10 years. Some of the highlights of this show for me included Mike Campell's sizzling Guitar playing, The inclusion of songs like "Rebel" and "Friend of the Devil", and when on a couple of songs the entire audience sang (Although their were many more of these moments during Sir Paul). Of course their were songs I would have liked to have heard but his catalog is just to expansive to include everything. I also thought that anyone that was disappointed the lineup didn't include enough Jam bands would have liked this show as the Heartbreakers really Jammed out some of the songs. Not a bad way to close out Bonnaroo.

Consider me totally converted. I have been anti-Petty my whole life. This ended up being the best show I saw all weekend outside of Macca and Jim's SuperJam. The Heartbreakers are incredible
Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream Please play Runnin' Down A Dream

Takes a big man to eat crow like that. Kudos to you.
This show was so f*cking awesome. Obviously the first time in four years I've been totally pleased with the show that closed down the farm. Hopefully they keep bringing in more bands like this for Sunday instead of recycling the same three jam bands. Fleetwood Mac for Sunday 2014?
Just a random roominisce -- it took a lotta guts for the boys to put in a cover like "Baby Please Don't Go" just a few songs into a festival set. But those cajones paid off! They absolutely NAILED this song and I don't think I boogied harder all weekend.

That's what a great Bonnaroo headlining set will do. I used to loathe Metallica until I saw them at Bonnaroo.

From a financial standpoint, it makes more sense, as well. Acts like Tom Petty are going to keep more people in Centeroo/on the farm than bands like Widespread Panic simply because more people know them. More people = more food and booze sales.
Tom was the first ever Sunday headliner I've cared about.

I can't get over how amazing Petty still sounds. You know how obviously, some singers voices deteriorate as they age, but he still sounds just as good as his records. So impressed by him and I'd love to catch him live again.
