Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Due to my habit of being intensely impatient and not being able to do anything slow and steady, I decided to start running and working out an extreme amount to prepare for Roo and my body got angry, gave me terrible shin splints, and now unfortunately, I'm on 20 minute at a time walking restrictions(being a waitress is fun)and my doctor set me up with a temporary tag, so it looks like this Bonna-Noobie will be meeting all you in Access this year. Can't wait to see you all

Has anyone heard back from Access about camping with a CPAP? I'm getting little anxious...especially since I'll probably have to get some sort of documentation from my doctor and knowing how he works...it could take a while.

Start getting your documentation together now so that you have a hang tag for 'Roo. You'll need it in addition to the print out that access@bonnaroo.com will send you once you email them. I would direct any questions there.

I was told in my last email to them that I would know as soon as they did. I guess they don't know yet because I haven't heard back. Did you email them again about it?

I did- this is the response I got:
I wish I had an answer for you. The producers are working on another event this weekend so I will press them next week. I agree - we need an answer. I expect that we will have power and as far as I know we are just working out the logistics and the systems. You are on my list to notify.

I emailed Friday afternoon asking what kind of documentation I would need when the time came, so I could go ahead and get on it since it is getting so close to the festival. Her response was as follows along with an apology on how long things were taking.
"Please send a doctor’s note stating that you need to use a powered, medically necessary device. There is no need to include information about the condition that makes the device necessary. Send a pdf or a photograph of the letter with the doctor’s letterhead to access@bonnaroo.com."

It sucks you are waiting for an answer like this, but I am very impressed with how caring and accommodating the access program is. It seems like they are doing so much more than the minumum legal requirements to make sure that everyone has fair access to the fest. Most places have just enough to save them in court when they get sued, but it seems like Laura and the access team at Bonnaroo really go above and beyond.

I'm not saying this is the right info, but we got a response on the "send us the thingy from last year" and the reply was "Do you have a state placard?" I'm going with nevermind .... cr****

Yeah, her responses to emails that I have sent make it seem like it is an issue with different departments being able to talk that is the issue rather than her department or another one just being slackers. Also, I am sure she doesn't want to put out info until it is 100% confirmed so as not to cause confusion come fest time if things change.
It is awesome! My fiance is disabled and his degree is in vocational rehabilitation and he hopes to be an access consultant or do something similar to help other people with disabilities utilize the same spaces and services as everyone else. Laura does a great job and we were pleasantly surprised at how accessible Bonnaroo is for everyone.
Now to get things sorted out for 2013. I I would just recommend that everyone bring their state issued placards (temporary or otherwise) regardless of what access gets together by the time the festival rolls around. My fiance emailed access@bonnaroo.com and got the PDF of the access camp hang tag so go and do that as soon as possible.

I believe my dad, uncle and I will be joining you all in access this year. We have a question though. How does the electricity thing work? Is there electricity at each individual campsite??

Hey guys, the friend I'm going with has a herniated disc in his back. He doesn't think he's going to make it to the farm, but we're still trying to think of ways to go. If we get a hang tag for our car, and could camp in access, my question is- how quickly does it fill up? I'm not sure we could make it any earlier than Thursday morning, and I don't want to convince him to go if he is going to have to endure a 30 minute walk to and from everyday. Any help you could offer would be amazing.... especially since I don't see myself going on this adventure alone, and I would hate to stay home.

I can't agree with you more. It's a little frustrating this year because there aren't any answers as of yet. But Laura is one fantastic lady. I've met with her personally he past few years and she is pretty close to perfect under the circumstances. I do have her personal number. But I won't use that until I'm on location. She's amazing and I have no doubt that everything will work out ok.
They really go above and beyond for the small group of people that need a little extra.

I don't know exactly how it works. My whole email chain started with asking her how the CPAP thing working this year. Her responses have led me to believe that things have either changed from last year or are not set in stone as of yet.
In other news, I sent off my email today after getting my doctor's letter. It was funny to read because I told them it just needed to be a general note, but they went into detail citing the pressure mine is set at, the specific kind of apnea I have and how failure to treat it can lead to a laundry list of health issues.

We didn't get there until around 2pm Thursday and it was not full. I have 2 herniated discs along with a handful of other back issues and doing access last year made a world of difference. I can walk; it's the standing that kills me.

Agree agree agree. Access not only responded to my email, they must have read back what they sent somehow because they realized they replied but forgot to send the little black and white thing to hang. Be sure you also have: THE ADDITIONAL state stuff. As far as filling up: I went early last year, so I can't really give you any help on getting in later. Sorry ... cr****

I had a monster back spasm earlier in the year and my back has been randomly going in and out and has been very painful. It's off and on, but when it starts to act up--the pain is just brutual. I still have yet to get it checked out, I've definitely been lagging.
At Coachella this year, the pain was definitely there and by day two, I couldnt even stand up for more than five minutes without supporting myself by leaning on something or sitting back down. Can't tell you how many shows I saw on the ground, just looking at people's knees.
I am hoping to make it easier at Bonnaroo this year by using a walking stick and bringing a chair with some back support. Steph, I probably don't have it as bad as you, but I am definitely feeling your pain right now. Us weak-backs will carry on!

g-freshie, have you been to your orthopedist, had an mri, anything like that? I've had some pretty gnarly problems with ruptured discs this spring too. I'm also looking into getting my RV group into access.
Post by gardenfresh on May 23, 2013 19:42:24 GMT -5
No MRI or Ortho or any of that yet. I kind of always hated going to the doctor so I've been lagging on it. I did however explain my situation to the Access team and I will be rocking the Access wristband. No camping though, I didn't want to displace our group and change the plans. Also I feel like me plus my buddy's car as the companion, wouldn't be right just for my achy back. Plus, we like Pod 1.
Long story short... I am extremely grateful for the peace of mind knowing I can bring a chair, sit down, and still see and hear the music. Incredible peace of mind. Thank you, Access!

alenamarie (and anyone else interested), I got this in response when I sent my Dr. note in today.
"Bonnaroo 2013 Policy for Powered Campsites
To make it less difficult for persons who need to use powered medical devices such as CPAP machines overnight, Bonnaroo is providing a limited number of campsites with access to power. Those who use powered wheelchairs and scooters or batteries for their medical devices may charge these at the Access Center. The following procedures are in place to make this service possible.
1. The person who needs to camp in this area should send a doctor’s note stating that this person needs to use a powered, medically necessary device. There is no need to include information about the condition that makes the device necessary. Send a pdf or a photograph of the letter with the doctor’s letterhead including contact information, to access@bonnaroo.com by May 30. This is to make sure that only those who need this service for medically necessary devices are given permission to use it.
2. In your request to use a powered campsite, let us know your cell phone number and the date and time you will be arriving. We will hold the space for 12 hours past your stated arrival time but may release it after that, unless we hear differently from you. Contact access@bonnaroo.com with your arrival time updates.
3. Bring a surge protector and a 25’ outdoor extension cord.
4. Do not plug in any other devices. Power is ONLY provided for necessary medical devices. The power supply is very limited and if you overuse the power it takes it away from other needs at the Access Center. Patrons who abuse this service will have to leave the powered campground area.
5. This is a temporary event and Bonnaroo cannot guarantee the power. Be sure to provide backup as you would at home. Remember that it is possible for all power to go out, even the power provided by the electric company. That said, if the power should go out, we will do what we can to get it running again as quickly as possible.
6. You must care for yourself. We are not responsible for alerting you if the power goes out.
7. If there is a companion vehicle it must arrive at the same time as the primary vehicle. It will be parked nearby but not in the powered campsite area.
Write to access@bonnaroo.com if you have further questions."

Got my confirmation email back. Couple of questions.
Does it matter what exit you come in through? If I don't have an ADA tag, I am fine with the pass they sent me and my name being on the list at the entrance?
Post by modestmolly on May 27, 2013 12:53:58 GMT -5
This is the information from last year: NEW: Vehicle Pass for Route to Accessible Camping: Patrons who have a mobility disability, a government-issued accessible parking tag, and who plan to camp in the Accessible Camping Area, should enter Bonnaroo via Exit 111 or 112 off of I-24. We are issuing a pass that will make it easier for those who are directing traffic to spot these vehicles and to help you be directed to the proper exit. This is NOT a reservation for the Accessible Camping Area. To get this pass, email access at bonnaroo dot com by May 23.

Yes you should be fine at any entrance. When you go through the tollbooth, just show them the pass and they direct you to access. Ill be therein Sunday and moving to access on Wednesday, so look for the big white van, that's me!!
first time at bonnaroo..traveling with a CPAP and a family of 5... anyone hear of details such as how big a space are we able to have? the same as if we were not in access camping?
